I agree, but what makes the game is the crowd. You couldn't have Sydney and Port Adelaide playing at the MCG on ANZAC day, it would be almost laughable.
Yeah maybe, so what you're saying is it's forever a Melbourne team-based event?

I never really know with this game TBH. In the end I just end up thinking, well if it ain't broke, don't fix it, but when the sides are mismatched it makes for a boring game.

Well it should be played at the best stadium in the country, so yeah it should be a Melbourne team based event.

I have always said if it ain't broke don't fix it, but *essendon's reputation is well and truly broke and hence they should lose the right to the game.

I agree wholeheartedly re the druggies.

Of course it's a gimmick. Playing football on Anzac Day with bagpipes and all the ceremony you like doesn't change it.

What it comes down to is that it's the biggest public holiday in the AFL calendar and because Pies n Dons have larger memberships it's a guaranteed big earner.

But it doesn't mean that Collingwood or Essendon embody the Anzac spirit any more than you or I do.

Similarly Dreamtime at the G. It's a great show and culturally important but it doesn't mean that Dustin Fletcher is all of a sudden an indigenous elder does it?

Having a league where one or two teams are allowed concessions, allowances and/or are considered superior to the rest is what I think Eddie's problem is, which is why the OP makes a bit of sense.

Tall poppy syndrome in full effect right here.

Maybe one day the showdown can be relevant outside SA. I'm not Victorian.
