OK, so Akermanis has been sacked and the club is copping it from all quarters. What a surprise.

This last 24 hours has made me angry, the fact that Akermanis is now going to be bashing the club constantly, the crap we're copping from opposition supporters and the likes of Newman and Price over our club and its culture - I'm furious and I've had a gutful of it.

I understand the view that the board of the club should be held to account. However, if you want to vote Smorgon and co out, you will have your chance to do so at the AGM.

For the next six weeks and then September, we must unite and support the players and the club more so than ever before. Let's face it we all want the same thing - that elusive second flag.

Hmmm thats all i got hmmm but i agree that all actions will be put off until the season is over and the board is allowed the time to show if there move and timing of said move was right.

Good post. Let the dogs take their talking on to the footy field on Sunday.

Indeed. Win on Sunday and the weeks following and nobody will care.

We go under the radar for the most part. Opposition supporters don't bust our balls too often, they continually nominate us as their second team and I'm sick of it. I'd prefer they hate us. Stuff them.

Agreed maybe this backs against the wall, us against the world mentally might just galvinise our playing group and the club for the better, instead of this constant " everyones favourite second team" crap.

Alls I know is this is definatley not the last we are gonna be hearing bout this situation. But let's forget bout it AND KILL FREO ON SUNDAY!!!!

Yep, they need to play the best, most intense, angry, aggressive, and beautiful football this week and beat Freo by 10 goals (which I think is a distinct possibility).

This is the best way to move on.

All that we have to ask of the players is to stand and fight as a united team. No more egos, no more narcissitic twats and nothing ahead of the team.

Carlton seemed to get over their troubles with Brendan Fevola fairly quickly.

This will blow over for the Dogs. At least it's now and not finals time.

I have to say, I love Jason Akermanis. But, I feel as though his mind was down media street this whole season.

I'm a Bulldog for life now as far as I'm concerned, if there was ever any doubt to begin with.

This week they proved that team is everything. Akermanis, as great as he was, wasn't with us - he was with Jason Akermanis. When there's a cancer, you cut it out. I'll be renewing my membership as soon as I can next year.

GO BULLDOGS.

Stand up and take a bow MeestaNob :thumbsu:

Jason Akermanis, whilst I love the great man, was interested in Jason Akermanis first and foremost. That's not to say he didn't love the club and his teammates, which he certainly did, but he couldn't get his head around a team-first mentality.

I really do hope Aka can mend bridges with the club and celebrate with the players WHEN they win the flag later this year.

I have to say he has also conducted himself really well and is still hoping his mates at the club get the chance to hoist the cup at the end of the year.

Go Aka!

Go Dogs!

Reading through all the stuff over the last few days and all the comments aker has made, i cant help but compare him to other greats of our club, the way they held themselves and the way they finished their career with the club.

Chris Grant - 300 game player, Never said a bad word about the club during or after his career, even gave up an elusive contract at Port to stay witht he club such was his loyalty to the "Club". Went out with dignity, never asked for a farewell game, just slipped away quitely becuase it wasnt about him.

Rohan Smith - Again a 300 game player, never said a bad word about the club during or after his time with the club. Local boy who loves the "club" and will do anything for it. Played his heart out in game number 299 knowing full well that could have been the number he finished on but he wouldn't have cared becuase that was the right thing for the club.

Brad Johnson - Again 300 game player with the club, loves the "club" probably more than anyone on the list. Know full well when he calls it quits the club will be put first.

Scott west, Luke Darcy, etc, etc

There is a recurring theme here, the players who thrive at our club are "club men", they love the club and dont think they are above the club and thats is an ethos that has always been the highlight of the Western Bulldogs for me. Once players subscribe to this theory they tend play out the rest of there careers at the club and become respected for it.

I can see this in players like Murphy, Gia, Boyd, Gilbee. They love the club know the history behind it and actually play for the club, not for themselves.

But the other theme in that post is that they are ONE CLUB men. Perhaps when you're from a different environment you don't get the same understanding, and perhaps in later years with Free Agency there won't be the same love for the club. Could this be the start of something for the negative, who knows?
