Letting the Anzacs down

One day all teams will play in the anzac spirit. On that day I'm going to put my house on 8 draws and retire on the Monday.
It is the only logical conclusion.:confused:

What a crock of 5hit.
If you lose on Anzac day, its because the other team wanted it more or you werent good enough. Has nothing to do with any soldier from Aust or Nz who fought for our freedom.

How have they let them down? Why would the ANZACS give a stuff if Collingwood (or any sporting team for that fact) lost a game. Collingwood let down their supporters and anyone who had money on them, but the ANZACS???? come on Mick..... give us a break.

Does anyone actually believe the ANZACS give a rats about a footy match played 80 years later? Or that a footy match equates to anything like what the ANZACs went through? And that by losing a team could let the ANZACs down? I mean comeon it's one of 150+ matches a year it'd means slightly more than a ordinary home and away match due to the size of the crowd nothing else.

I think it's a fairly tackless thing to say at the end of the game. Its like saying we won for the anzacs... it just doesn't aound right.
Pre-game is about the honouring the anzacs, and helping people understand and respect the memories.
The game itself however it another football game, if collingwod lose in women's round would you say they let all the women in australia down?

the famous quote by legendary all rounder keith miller...

"pressure is a Messerschmitt up your arse, playing cricket is not"

same applies to football.

i am not afraid of much playing sport however badly I play it.

Whether I agree with our politicians or not, i have genuine admiration for those willing to rush out there and fight where a significant potential for death is present.

I suspect i would soil myself if i was in some of the situations our soldiers are in, either that or be completely frozen, or run away in fear.

getting belted on a footy oval is NOTHING like having some idiot politician send you to a different country to get shot at or to shoot.

MM is a complete nobnuts for even thinking footy levels of courage have anything to do with our military courage.

Look at twerps like OBL, sending kids to blow themselves while he hides out in a cave, and fight them to the last drop of blood saddam, hiding in a ditch with $$$$ for his escape, and rumseld, howard, bush extolling the the virtues of combat and urging soldiers to fight while never seeing action themselves is pretty soft too.

Probably have a different opinion if MM had to fight, and wars would be shorter if idiots like OBL, saddam, and those scum along with howard, bush, rumsfeld etc, had to fight themselves.

I don't know if i could ever do the things some of our soldiers do on a daily basis, let alone the acts of tremendous courage they are called upon to perform.

i know if i had talent i could go out there and play senior grade football without any qualm.

But as long as we have self righteous outraged internet preachers like you we should be able to get through this without too much psychological damage

I don't think there are many alive at that age. ;)

It's Malthouse, he always comes out with outrageous comments, why is everyone getting upset about it?

Gee you edited that 110 year old out pretty bloody quick.

Sanctimonious drivel from a keyboard hero whose only actual involvement in the game is slagging those more talented than him who actually played and coached the game

nope

saying that in judgement those who fought wars and risked death are a quantum above in courage than those who play football.

nothing to do with talent.

MM is a great coach, but comparing the courage of the ANZACs to a football game.

Piffle.

I genuinely admire the skill of footballers, probably more than I appreciate those who fought wars, I couldn't name more than 2 or 3 VC winners off the top of my head, let alone the many other badges of courage, in comparison to brownlow medal winners, Norm Smith medal winners etc.

but fighting for life and death is a different kettle of fish altogether.

IMO read spike milligans war diaries, a man who can make you laugh and cry within a few paragraphs.

Waht a disrespectful and garbage statement. They lost by one goal, might as well have been a coin toss. If Collingwood had won by one goal would he have still said the same thing?
Maybe he would have said
"I think we played near well enough to capture the spirit of the Anzacs, and I think that is what makes this one of the most encouraging games I have ever been associated with."

Malthouse is a a comedy act.

Awww, what a shame, Mick is usually so good at being a jingoistic knob. Maybe we all have off days.
