I agree that we haven't got the consistency out of him that we would have wanted but I still think he's contributed to more wins than Sinkers would have.

It looks better if you treat last year as a write-off for him - I think this year he has been pretty good. Not only that but he has history lifting his game when the stakes are high and we're light on for those players.

Looks better if we write off his first year!! Wow I'm not sure that approach would sit well with the football club dude..Sydney knew they were getting a better deal than us when they let him go. He hadn't played well for them the last couple of years. He had a good year in 2012 for them, kicked some goals and used his speed and disposal to great effect.
His greatest attributes are his speed and disposal, he just rarely shows them anymore.

I think having Sinclair this year would have helped a lot more than you think, first of all he's a ruckman, secondly we wouldn't be playing the likes of Petrie (who I think has filled in admirably) or Vardy in a position they never played full time.

In all probability if Sinclair stayed we probably wouldn't have brought in Petrie or Vardy anyway.

Lycett has only played 50 games for us since 2011, that's concerning.

Players can have a bad year. Jetta might have been getting accustomed to playing our gameplan, his teammates, playing at Subi most weeks, he might have been carrying an injury, having personal problems - who knows, the important thing is whether the club puts that down as an aberration or not. So it's not necessarily bad form to ignore a bad year.

And clearly your evaluation of Sinkers is different from mine if you think he would have abrogated the need for 2 players.

I agree with your point about Lycett but I'm not sure what it really has to do with the Jetta/Sinclair trade. We addressed that when we brought in Vardy.

You said that Sinclair would be playing this year.

We recruited Jetta in 2015, so there was the whole of 2016 in which NN and Lycett were fit so he wouldn't have been playing.

At the time, trading out an average ruck for a quick, skilful premiership midfielder was a great idea, given our quality of ruck depth at the time.

Yes with the benefit of hindsight it would have been nice to have Sinclair this year, but we recruited Vardy and Petrie who have pretty much equaled what Sinclair's output would have been. If we didn't trade Sinclair then we probably wouldn't have recruited Vardy.

So would you rather Vardy and Jetta or just Sinclair?

I know what my answer is.

Do you think Sinclair is a better ruckman than Vardy?I reckon he is, he kept Lycett out of the team in 2015 and played 3 finals. I would have thought keeping one player instead of bringing in two to do the same thing makes more sense.

Bringing in Jetta was great in theory but I'm not so sure our recruiting department did there homework on him, Sydney didn't really try too hard to hang onto him, if he was that good they would have fought a lot harder to keep him.

Sure he was a premiership midfielder who had a good season in 2012, he kicked 45 goals that year but in the next 3 years he kicked 38 goals in total.
For us in 2 whole seasons he's kicked 13 goals and averaged only 2 tackles a game, 4 contested possessions a games and averages less metres gained that Eric Mackenzie and Tom Barrass..

Not to mention he's been dropped a number of times.

Anyway all too late now, lets hope the boys can have a win in the weekend hey!!

Lycett had OP in 2015 that's what kept him out of the side . He battled through and kept fit for the club as a back up .

If we didn't trade sinkers for Jetta we would have used the pick we used on partington .
Who would you rather sinkers or partington ?

AVG metres gained 2017 season:
Lewis Jetta - 356.6
Tom Barrass - 190.4
Eric MacKenzie - 134.2

Exactly. Even last year Jetta's average was more than that of EMac or Barass. Both Jetta and Redden (the real high priced recruit) had been poor for the first 1.5 seasons at WCE. Both have started to deliver - happy with the respective trades.

For the record, Vardy has averaged more hitouts than Sinclair this season and there is no significant difference in other stats as well.

It has probably already been stated but the gap between Jet's best and worst is too great. IMO he needs to raise the bar more often - that is not to say I need to see the exceptional bursts we saw on weekend all and every game but I do want to see a more sustained and consistent performance in more games.

Not sure they would have used that pick on Jetta, he wasn't worth a first rounder.
Mate I hope Jetta plays really well for us in the finals and next year but history is a great predictor of the future and so far he hasn't lived up to the expectations.

Partington was a second round pick. First was used on Redden.

hahaha i would average more meters gained than Barrass and Emac
They play in defence and at times the last two men in our defence. Plus they tend to do a ton of kicking back, sideways ficks and kicks that have distance but gain barely and meters.

Jetta is straight up trash, no impact, lazy, doesn't tackle, hell he doesn't even want to run and that's we brought him in for. He's just a stat peddler in the WAFL.

How does one peddle stats in a competition they aren't playing in?

We wouldn't be in the finals without him, really odd time to have a crack.
