Baker for 14 might be slight overs, but the Carlton part of the deal is where this truly stank for WCE.

Take out the Baker for 14 which is a slight overpay (I'd have had him at our Pick 17), it's the deal with Carlton that is a complete and utter f*ck up on their behalf.

This from the same idiot who traded 6 and 31 for Hopper. Tigers have gotten rid of him and replaced him with obviously someone far superior, which is a double win.

Should have just dealt directly with the Tigers and got 10 from Freo, for 3 and Baker. Forego Owies, and get a 2 pick upgrade on 12. It's still a shit deal, but at least it would just look like an overpay for Baker...rather than handing Carlton Pick 3 for god knows what reason.

I'll say it again. Clarke is way out of his depth here, and the WC media and fans are about to let him know just how badly he's messed up.

This is the bit that grates I'd expect. Tiger fans have been telling West Coast fans on here for weeks, maybe even months, of what value Baker will get, but the way they've had to get there is brutal, and to be forced to give up the steak knives too.

They were pushed into a corner.

If they wanted to get Baker in, then they had to split the pick.

Once you have to do something, then clubs take advantage.

They appear to have gone into this draft and trading period with the primary goal of getting Baker in and everything else being secondary which, given the position we are in, is monumentally stupid. He's not that good a player to base your whole strategy around, he could have been traded for 26 if they had a spine, or walked to the PSD as a nuclear option.

The Eagles have been a laughing stock on the field but in the background it was always accepted they were a professional club that made good decisions and wouldn't be down for long. Now they are a laughing stock off the field as well.

Clarke was never our list manager (the role he has at West Coast) he was our head of recruitment

Blair Heartley was and is our list manager who is responsible for trades

14 is probably slight overs, but compared to the rest of the deal, it looks like gold.

I can't help but think that Richmond could/should have been open to 10 or 11 + Baker for 3, which would have been a better deal for WCE (and even that WCE fans here were strongly against).

That might have been possible if Freo stopped dicking around with pick 18 instead of 11.

Dumb as shit when he got where he wanted to go a year early? Baker wouldn't have got us band 1 next year, at best would've been end of R1.

The only person that's come away from this deal looking 'dumb' it Matty Clarke for coughing up pick 3.

The draft is too compromised for WC to use top 20 draft capital on 27 year olds. Their fans are rightly pissed at the whole situation.

Baker for 14 in isolation is probably a slight overpay IMO, the fact he's out of contract makes it worse, the fact WC are where they are makes it terrible.

14 for Baker is an OK deal. Probably favours Tigers a bit. But you'll love Baker. genuine captaincy material.

The Blues deal though, looks .... interesting.
