Oh Angus..... shit dude.... :(

Some seriously generous financial assistance and 500k extra cap space to spend in this trade period rebuffed just so he could extend his stay by a month.

What's more stupid is that the mere rejection of that deal will be enough to ensure he isn't re-elected (assuming there was a hope to begin with)

Going back through the various posts on their website, these are the three campaigns they have run

...so what you're saying is Henry Pinskier can *actually* find answers to his questions about The Lion's Roar on their website...?

Huh.

When Leigh Matthews wants the opportunity to speak in the media, there will be a queue of people to take that interview and broadcast it, every time.
Angus and Co won't have that luxury. There will only be so many times that the media covers Angus comments. Apart from anything the media has fairly derided him on many occasions over the past couple of months, especially since Leigh has come out in opposition - so think AFL 360 guys, Footy Classified etc.

And of course, if you're Dr Henry, you get once chance on SEN at 6.30am and thats it.....

Angus doesn't say why he rejected the deal other than "best interests of the club".

If he doesn't explain it better than that, it's difficult to see how people aren't just going to draw the obvious conclusion.

Beggar's belief. Why is he/they (Angus, Nash & Milner) refusing to go. What is really in it for him/them? On the surface, he occupies non paying, benevolent role. So why is it so important to cling on so steadfastly to power? Surely it can't be just for pride and love. Surely the stakes are greater. What does he covet? What is he protecting?

LIONS chairman Angus Johnson has rejected a multi-million dollar AFL package that would have safeguarded the club's future in a desperate bid to cling to power

Seriously, the man is an abomination. He is simply not acting in the best interests of the club. The opportunity for him to leave with dignity has passed, well and truly. His standing in the business world will be tainted by this final act of blatent self-preservation. He's essentially just given the club and its members the bird.

Well done Angus. You've just shat all over the previous mess you'd made and are now trying to rub our faces in it.

JUST GET OUT.

I appreciate that the article has Hamilton's name attached to it, therefore I will reserve my right to believe or not. However, if the contents of the article is correct, the actions of Johnson are abhorrent and his only redeeming claim that he always acted in the interest of the club is shown to be his own phantasy.

I now am convinced that he must fall on his sword and salvage whatever credibility he had by doing the honorable thing. He must resign, accept the AFL package and call off the EGM and let the compromised AFL supported board get on with the business of administering our fractured club and begin mending some fences.

This is absolutely disgraceful. How he can face the members on the EGM night and tell them that he did not accept the AFL package because....? Why? Please I want to know why?

Good point this, of all the candidates Leigh is the one who will be able to garner the most press attention. Has a lot of pull in media circles and will be able to get himself on a lot of shows, which will be invaluable down in melbourne for the membership base down there. While Johnson will be able to use the lions site and email addresses, as well as the papers up here and afl.com I doubt he will be able to get his way onto a tv show down in melb.

Leigh also saying he has no affiliation with the new group on tv and paper will also kill that off pretty quickly.

This whole thing is now beyond bizarre. One thing is crystal clear to my tiny mind though- the buck stops with the bloke at the top. He takes responsibility for the mess we are in.

Time to go.

Doing him the credit of the lack of a profit motive, I can only conclude that AK clearly doesn't intend to go is an ego thing.

Really be interested in why LM won't serve on any Committee that AJ is on. Does anyone have an insight here?

He can't seriously expect anyone to buy his notion that he's serving with the club's best interests in mind now. Rather then getting a fresh start and injection to our finances and football department as soon as possible, he has decided a one month stay of execution for its outgoing chairman is the best thing for the club currently. How can that man be so selfish? That was the last opportunity to leave with some semblance of credibility.

Even if Angus and his plan is the best thing for the club, and he does have the best interests in mind, he is doing nothing to communicate what exactly that is and why we should keep him to the members. We are basically being told everyone else is out for themselves, I'm doing what is best and have a plan, but just trust me that I know what I'm doing. He then ignores members as has poor poor communication skills.

Well that escalated quickly.

We've gone from months of stone cold silence from the Chairman to e-mail updates every 12 hours...

Members may have seen a report by Andrew Hamilton in today's Courier Mail that the Board has rejected a financing package from the AFL.

These claims are incorrect and deliberately misleading. I have spoken to AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou this morning and he has strongly rejected the claims.

The AFL Commission has agreed a financial advance contingent on board stability. This package has been discussed over an extended period.

Mr Demetriou this morning confirmed that the financing remains in place with the condition remaining that the board must be stable.

The AFL’s financing package is not linked to the compromise proposal put forward by the AFL and rejected by a majority of the Board, as is claimed by Andrew Hamilton.

Based on media reports, it appears that information is being misrepresented to the media and to Leigh Matthews. Members have every right to be angry that they are being deliberately misled by false claims through the media.

While the Club enjoys a positive relationship with The Courier Mail as a media partner, it is important to note that I was not contacted by the journalist for the Board's views before this damaging and factually incorrect article was published.

I will continue to update Members in the lead up to the EGM on 13 November.

Regards

The "I don't want to talk to you" versus the "I want to talk to you every 12 hrs or less, because now its vote time" is quite disconcerting.

Oh. so instead of the AFL saying:

"Do this compromise and you will get your money"

they are actually saying

"Have a stable board and you will get your money." and "Guys we reccommend that the best and fastest way to a stable board is this compromise"

Colour me amazed but I think Hammo got pretty close to the money on this and the description of his article as deliberately misleading is itself 'deliberatel;y misleading'

What AJ doesn't say but would seem inherent in the 'accurate' formulation of the afl's position would be

'If the EGM does not resolve the issues and provide board stability, you won't get your money"

So Angus has passed up the guarantee of Stability (and Money) without him, in favour of the possibility of Stability (and money) with him.

New staff announcements in another 12 hours? Now there's transparency!
