Lions fume as Micheal joins Bombers!!!!

Okay. Maybe I'm just taking the high moral ground here. I think it is pretty shabby the way Michael has gone about this, especially with the wonderful career he had with Brisbane. Maybe Brisbane were niave in thinking a great club legend would stab them in the back in such a way. Brisbane would have every right to feel bitter about this.

I dont disagree with this bit at all.
I will say that people have been quick to judge Mal Micheal based on circumstancial evidence. I am not judging it either way. i can see that it could have been a rather devious plan but on the other hand it could well be a case of player retires early. player moves away. Player has some regrets about retiring. Player gets an approach from another club and relises that he has indeed made the wrong decision. It could be either.
I also dont berate players as much on loyalty and moral issues given that all clubs can throw both out of the window when it suites their needs.

Brisbane need to be asking themselves why this happened.

There is a MUCH bigger issue here nobody seems to want to see.

Get with the program. Nothing that happens at Brisbane is ever the fault of the administration. The $400,000-odd fine they received for neglecting salary cap administrative requirements was Aker's fault you know. Apparently, he shredded the paper work in a fit of pique, whilst trying to filch a copy of the game plan.

From what I understood about the situation, Brisbane held firm in that they would not trade Mal (despite some interest from various clubs) in the hope of keeping him.

They then released him on account of his retirement from AFL football, despite being under contract.

The way I see it, as long as the bombers didn't have discussions with Michael until after his 'retirement', then they are not accountable in any way. All they have done is enquire as to his situation.

The real issue exists between Michael, the Lions and the AFL with regard to whether or not he should be allowed to nominate for the PSD draft on account of the manner in which he was released whilst under contract by the Lions.

IMO the AFL would be setting a very dangerous precedent should he be allowed to be picked up by the bombers.

I Dustin Fletcher did this to you guys, I don't think you would be so philosophical.

I dont think they will. What it will do is ensure that in the future clubs realeasing players from contracts will stipulate that yes you can retire but you wont be playing footy for another AFL club for the length of the contract being voided.

Looks like there's a few sooks down lions way.

I never heard them once complain about the extra salary cap space that got them the 3 premierships.

speaking of sooking:rolleyes:

I wonder if the move to Essendon was his plan all along, and both he and Essendon decided this method of move would best suit both of them, and completely decieve the Lions.

For all those people who are suggesting that Essendon have done nothing wrong.

It could be very well assumed that Essendon have inticed Mal Michael to break contract at Brisbane. Any one care to suggest some ramifications both legal and AFL?

I see Essendon loosing draft picks here and potentially this year. A first or priority would teach them a good lesson. I think the AFL will act tough.

I wouldnt be happy, in fact i would be pissed off. But in saying that you dont really know me. I am not really in the normal range. I dont hate other clubs or other players . I dont come on here and bag other clubs or players.
I guess that is just the way i am, i always try to look for all sides of the sitution even if it is not one i agree with.

This is correct it could have been done this way but you would have a hard time prooving it before any ramifications could take place.

Good solution, I think that's the easiest to implement and it's also very straight forward. :thumbsu:

It could be assumed, but I could also assume that you're a murdered. At the end of the day, neither of us have any proof.

Not when the AFL have already said it's okay and can't see any reason that he can't nominate for the PSD and EFC have stated they didn't speak to Mal until November 2nd.

But you're welcome to keep living in your dream.

Spot on.
Pretty much what I was going to post when reading the first page of this thread.

You're a goose
End of story, dont bother replying. There is nothing you can say to dispell the fact you're a goose.

Proof in a civil court/AFL tribunal are completely different levels as to whats required in a murder.

Just because Essendon says that doesn't mean it.

I posted in the other thread that SEN were saying the Lions could have done this with Michael but chose not to.

You can bet that will be the first piece of papaer shoved in front of the next player to retire early.

don't be silly. You're making an accusation without any proof. With, in fact, all indications to the contrary. That's just ridiculous. Care to come up with any proof of your allegation?

Until MM says he simply changed his mind!

now where is your proof??
Do you really think that kind of comment clears a party in circumstances like this? What MM and Essendon say will mean nothing in this case.

Circumstancial evidence is about all they can get in any matter like this and I very much think that is all they will need.

That's absolute crap  What rule have Essendon broken? Please, I'd love to know.

Interesting to see some of the same people that called sour grapes when Collingwood people criticised Mal now calling his character into question.

You have no idea. If this is allowed to happen, what is stopping Bryce Gibbs to "retire" at the end of 2007 and then sign a contract with the Crows
He’d have to be released from any contract and then the Crows would have to have the first pick in the PSD. That is a fair bit to stop it. More than enough in fact.
