Brisbane are done I reckon, been up the top for a few years and havnt got the job done. Don’t get me wrong they’ll still be in the 3-8 bracket on the ladder but will continue to stumble
Just my opinion
They need to transition away from lyons and Zorko. They have the players on the list to do it and I think otherwise their list is in good shape for another go.

On paper Gunston to Brisbane doesn’t really make sense… he’d be accepting a lesser deal ($) than whatever Hawthorn can offer, and the common ‘career extension’ offer that our previous greats were afforded doesn’t really apply to Jack because he’s still playing at a very high level.

Perhaps it’s simply a lifestyle change for his final years before entering retirement.

Big game player who doesnt shit the bed in finals is exactly what Brisbane need. He is twice the player McStay is, and probably costs the same or less money.

Its a no-brainer for Brisbane to go after him. Plus I assume the Fagan connection is big.

Ashcroft and Dunkley will be a good step in keeping them relevant.

Dunkley, Gunston and Ashcroft would improve them in 2023.

Still have growth to come from Clug, Raynar, Coleman and Bailey. Hipwood is coming off an ACL too, he'll be better in 2023.

Andrews is a massive worry for them but.

Andrews knees are cactus.

Never underestimate the appeal for a veteran to play in sunny QLD over winter either.

I’ve heard plenty of players say that they reckon they got another season or two out of themselves after being traded to Brisbane/Sydney at the end of their careers (I mean look at the weather in Melbourne today, pure filth 🤢)

Warm weather for a sore body does wonders for the mind and body

If it comes down to having a forced mid week swim in Port Melbourne in the middle of winter versus a swim at Broadbeach I know which option I am choosing!

Port Melbourne all the way. Because once I am towelled off and warm I still won't be living in the humid cesspit that is SEQ.

I have to wonder how desirable the Lions will be once they move their training facilities to Springfield also. Driving from one of the nicer Brissy suburbs to Springfield on the daily wouldn't exactly be tantalising.

In summer sure it's humid and unpleasant but Winter in QLD is glorious, it's why we all fly up there for a mid winter break.

But each to their own Ned!

I don't think Gunston really gets Brisbane any closer to a flag as they seem to have a flat track midfield and also leak too many goals when the pressure is on.

In saying that I can see why Gunston would leave us, it's unlikely he plays another final at Hawthorn in his career even if he stays.

I lived there for close to 20 years - the 'lifestyle' argument always makes me laugh as I spend more time outdoors down here than I ever did up there.

The Victorian thought process that everyone from Brisbane just saunters on down to the Gold Coast on the daily is always amusing too. When I moved here so many people would say 'OMG DID YOU GO TO THE GOLD COAST ALL THE TIME' and the answer is no, because I have better things to do with my time than drive down the M1 for 60-90 minutes so I can hang out at a tourist trap that is one of the worst places in the world to drive around (and I live in inner-city Melbourne, so that's saying something). But, hey, if stifling humidity requiring you to live in constant air conditioning for 8-9 months a year, sweating profusely because you dared walk from your car to the train platform, a city that means you'll drive more than you walk, with worse public transport than even Sydney has, where you have to hunt for good coffee like you are a detective, supermarkets that close at 9pm and restaurants that close before that, where every good restaurant is an inferior copy of something from Sydney or Melbourne, sharing your house with huntsmans and your backyard with brown snakes and having to live among Queenslanders is for you - then have at it!

Gunston alone - no. However - Gunston, Ashcroft and Dunkley is a different matter entirely.

Also think Brisbane could be crazy not to look at Daniel Howe - I think a hard-nosed toiler on their HBF and through the wings could help stop them leaking so many points. Underrated defensive player.

It's funny, I'd take Melbourne over Gold Coast as a city any day of the week, but isn't it funny how people can see things so differently? I cannot stand being cold and it's so inconvenient putting on layers of clothes all winter. I have zero issue with humidity and sweating though. Could easily live in an endless summer.

Clearly it's body composition and your ability to tolerate things. I have walked to and from work in Melbourne heatwaves and sweated a bit but nothing outrageous. On a mild summer's day with high humidity in Brissy I am like a bloody fountain while brushing my teeth. I am not built for that kind of climate. Brisbane is only half as bad as I make it out - but I do get a giggle out of the lifestyle comments as it is just a big city resting on a pretty crappy beach just like Melbourne.

So apart from all that is it a good place to live?

I tell you what - they had a cheap cinema chain that did $7 tickets when I left there. That wasn't the special on Tuesdays or anything crazy - just straight up $7 movie tickets and the cinemas were better than the Village/Hoyts equivalent up there. That thing I absolutely miss - as well as my mates up there obviously. The rest - I don't get at all misty eyed about.

Edit: That cinema chain is now $9.50 for adult tickets. In this economy - that is still great value!

Another thing on Gunston/Brisbane - fairly sure Jack has some cafe/restaurant interests down here. I get these things don't necessarily need hands on management from owners - but if he does have a hand in them it might be a reason why he doesn't want to leave Melbourne.
