I don’t rate the Brownlow

Put it this way if Nukeplaying well enough to win the Brownlow i feel like we are a lot closer to winning a flag.

If they all go, it will be interesting to see what cheap experience we bring in.

I wouldn’t see us losing all of Hartigan, BigBoy, Tom, Gunner, Shiels from the list without adding at least 2 players in the 27+ age bracket, but I’d need to go see what sort of list spots we will have after the draft.

You’d think if they were concerned on this they would have kept someone like shiels around - rather than picking up from another club who doesn’t know our gameplan / group / leadership more uncertain etc. Maybe we fill with some players with 2-5 years in system as depth with upside.

A cynical read of it is we are cutting hard that could increase possibility of a ‘wave’ down to the bottom 4 to hit next years draft hard. Giving our apparent interest in pick 2 feels like club wants some real top elite talent in.

I can't see Sam Mitchell tanking, he had every opportunity to do it this year but we still fought hard in most games.

As rebuilds go on, ladder position can get worse, as 2-3 years into the rebuild you have more Draftees, and less senior players, with good senior recruits less likely to join until the rebuild has shown promising signs.
Injuries expose a lack of depth more, the kids get tired through the season, and you get more inconsistent results and blowouts.
Expect us to be bottom 4 next year - and that’s not tanking, it’s just list progression.

Note it doesn’t always happen like this, and the young players can step up quicker. But odds are we’ll be worse next year before getting better.

Matt Crouch in would be some St Kilda/North level trading (Hanneberry-esque), he doesn’t seem to have great leadership qualities and is very injury prone.

Would rather we get someone like James Harmes who has a bit of mongrel in him as well. Blake Acres also looks on the outer at Freo, we should be all over him. Was one of Freo’s best in the finals and perfect age.

Yep 100% on Acres, seen a few of his games this year and have been very impressed. 100 odd games and 27 years old at the start of next year. We should be asking the question

With the amount of players we have at around 23, our ladder position should absolutely not get worse.

Gunston having met with Brisbane very recently - Fages a big influence here - 2 possibly 3 year deal mooted.

That makes it at least 8 list changes required, Amon a confirmed arrival.

There is no way we will be taking 8 18 year olds in the upcoming National draft to fill the list.

We could only reasonably assume we have at least 2-3 mature targets confirmed before filling the rest of the list with 18 year olds.

This shapes up as our most important off season in a long time.

I love how bad players from good sides become preferable to better players from bad sides. I don't want Harmes anywhere near this team. Average af.

DeGoey as a free agent would be a great get. I know he has baggage but he can elevate our squad with quality.
Ginnivin’s trade value right now is at its highest it will ever get to in his career , not the right time to be bent over.

Silk was 27 and we had just won a flag with a core of Hodge, Mitch, Buddy, Rough, Lewis, Birch, Rioli, etc and were ready to top up to chase more.

How many players play that well so late into their 30's? Burgoyne was an anomaly.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. At the time, we the club were hoping to get 3-4 years max out of Silk. That they got 200 games was a miracle. Anyway, it's moot as we were in the window then and prepared to take top ups which we are not now.
