Re: List Management thread Mk II

Those touted we should keep:
Jetta, Myers, Dempsey (im just on his side).

Those touted i wouldnt be sad to see us keep:
Houli, Stanton, Neagle.

We need 2 different midfielders.
One to replace the loss of Lovett. The other McPhee.

Been to a few melbourne games this year and i really like Nathan Jones. Very hard at the contest, difficult to tackle and doesnt butcher it under pressure
Not much pace to speak of though. Seems to lose his spot to Moloney.
Dont know what we'd give the dees.
Hadley would be another good one for us. Someone to play alongside Watson and give him some support/protection. Have to wonder how safe his spot is if McLean is fit.

Not sure what speedsters are available.

i think i agree on the jones one still young tuff might get pushed aside with all the kids yeah looks good

hadley no thanks

Re: List Management thread Mk II

Rischitelli r*ped us in the midfield, I want him so bad. Also Knights would be good. Salopek we wont get, he will stay at Port.

Question

Who matched up on rischitelli.

Re: List Management thread Mk II

IMHO 1, 2, 9, 10, 27, 28 (sadly), 37, 38, 42, 43 wouldn't be missed. Possibly one of 2, 38 or 43 could be value for someone, but I'd like one of them kept. 42 Probably kept because he can do a number of roles, not a best 22 player but we could easily afford to keep as a bit-parts type. No love left for #37. Would have value. Think both of the guys we got for Solly could be outski; and I'd be overjoyed if that upgraded us into another top-30 pick or two.

Dempsey, Myers, Jetta, are the guys we need to keep IMHO. All highly rated & will still be at the club.
TD35's reasoning - "based on what they've done so far" is a bit of a stretch IMHO, 20 & 21 year old kid's are not going to have done heaps, especially if they've spent two years injured like Myers & Dempsey & Gumby.
Their value is what they might do. If Myers could replicate his best form, we'd have a decent tough big mid, ie exactly what we need.
You're going to be stretching into the 6th & 7th round to replace that? Unlikely.

But you don't need to go this deep into the draft when you can bundle 3 fringe players for C. Knights + 2nd rounder

Re: List Management thread Mk II

Is there any chance these players have been let down by training and development staff? Most have shown glimpses over the past 2-3 years suggesting there is a base to work with, it just seems the EFC has failed to maximise on the talent. I am having visions of David Rodan's resurgence at Port Adelaide...

Re: List Management thread Mk II

19 goals 18 behinds says that your thinking is a bit wishful. I would agree his field kicking is very good, but his kicking for goal is average at best.
Then Watson's one of the best kicks around.
I don't think Zaha will play forward much next year. He'll keep going with his move into the midfield & gradually increase the time he's in there.

At least he is getting shots on goal. 37 shots on goal for a small forwards. If he could become a 30 a year goal kicker then that would be exceptional. However he is destined for the midfield.

Re: List Management thread Mk II

"Dedoro" and Keane have brought us Hurley, Zaharakis, Pears, Hooker, Colyer, Melksham and Carlisle over the past three drafts.

Yea so?

Hurley - Tick
Zaka - Tick
Pears - Tick.

Colyer, Melksham, Hooker and Carlisle all highly speculative at this point. They haven't proved themselves at all.

Don't forget Knights is on record as stating that he would have used our second pick of the 2007 draft (used on Pears), in order to secure Daniher. Thank god for that.

And the rest of the recruitment over the last 7 - 10 years? It's been poor at best. This is reflected in the fact that we've been ordinary to poor for the last 5 - 7 seasons and are going to finish 14th this year.

I don't get your point.

Re: List Management thread Mk II

trade or dump.......................

stanton - has currency but far too many turnovers
dyson - not good enough, too many turnovers
slattery - the worst regular afl player in the comp. consistantly puts his team mates under pressure and gives it up....too many turnovers is the understatement of the century.
atkinson - too many turnovers
dempsey - another with some currency, too many turnovers.
quinn - a rookie i know, but genuinely stinks it up at afl level, and too many turnovers
lazycock - sounds like he's gawn
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

give them one more year to show us why they should stay........

neagle
reimers
jetta
houli
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

genuinely torn on the best way to go on.........

nlm - one more year/trade???
welsh - very good tagger, but that is all.
daniher - honestly don't know enough about him, always injured.

Re: List Management thread Mk II

The point being, for the slightly slow, that the Keane-led recruiting posse have had 3 cracks at it and brought better players in than the entire 8 years before that. Hence, it's working better.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of his and i agree he will play the majority of his time in the midfield in future and i fully expect him to become an elite player there. This doesn't change the fact that he is a below average kick for goal.

Re: List Management thread Mk II

Keep Dempsey.
Keep Jetta.
Keep Myers.

Whilst Salopek and Knights have some talent, both are very injury prone, so you wouldn't want to throw the kitchen sink at it.

I say grab Rischa in the PSD.
..

He wouldn't reach the bombers.

What would you guys want for Gumbleton. has not lived up to the hype due to injuries and showed a little in his first full season.

Pick 6?

To be honest, a fair bit - something like a first rounder and a decent young player. I certainly don't think the club would let him go lightly given that he seems to have some pretty handy attributes for a KPF and he showed a bit in just about every game.

If a team like Richmond was to make an offer I have a feeling they'd struggle to come to an agreement as Essendon would probably want a 1st rounder + a decent young player based on what he could be, whilst the other team would probably refuse to give up more than a high draft pick or one good young player because of his injury record if that makes sense?

Re: List Management thread Mk II

A couple of guys I wouldn't mind looking at are shuey - who I think has already been mentioned - and Shiels from Hawthorn who is behind Hodge, Burgoyne, Mitchell, etc in the midfield pecking order.

Also, Is Hannebury out of contract? Was drafted in 2008 so his standard 2 year draftee contract would be up at the end of this year but not sure if he has signed a new deal. We'd obviously have to give up a lot but he looks like a sensational young player from the little i've seen.

Re: List Management thread Mk II

I think the club needs a whole revamp, my changes would be a new coach and new recruiting manager.

Players to retain
These guys ought to be retainined as they are our best at the moment and/or have the potential to improve our onfield performance.

Watson McVeigh Zahkrakis Gumbleton Melksham Hille Ryder Fletcher Hurley Hooker Howlett Prismall Carlisle Marigliani Crameri Hardingham Pears Winderlich T.Slattery Bellchambers Long Still Welsh

Players for possible Trade
These guys arent all going to be traded but would be looked to be off loaded for various reasons a) They have trade value b) Have gone stale/underachieved c) Want to much money for their ability

Stanton H.Slattery Monfries Neagle Dempsey Jetta Davey Reimers Myers Hocking Houli Daniher Dyson Lonergan Lovett-Murray

Delist
The guys are likely to have no value on the market for us

Laycock Quinn Atkinson Williams

Anyones thoughts?

Re: List Management thread Mk II

19 goals 18 behinds says that your thinking is a bit wishful. I would agree his field kicking is very good, but his kicking for goal is average at best.

I should have put on a :D to lighten the mood..

Any one else see this little snippet in the Hun today about one David Meli:

Bombers hopeful seals the deal

A rookie from Papa New Guinea kicked his third goal to seal a 12 - point Calder win against a gallant Eastern Rangers at Box Hill yesterday.

Daniel Meli [Incorrectly spelt David :D], who was signed last year by Essendon for two years, slotted the winner to cap a top effort that netted 18 disposals and 8 tackles.

Thought this bit was the more intriguing though..

The 178cm half forward can be elevated to the Bombers senior list at the end of this season or next.
"His performace was really good, he's strong around the footy and he's good on both sides of his body" Cannons coach Martin Allison said.

So, we could potentially take him as an 18 year old next year it seems.
This may be the best thing for him, seemed a little out of his depth when he was in the Bendigo seniors in his only match I have seen him play this year.

On another note, also in the HuN a bit of a throw away line was written by Jon Ralph about our list, he has a bit of a scathing attack on Kyle Reimers saying

"A player who has been given ample opportunity to develop into a key player in Essendon's midfield had done exactly three fifths of bugger all...

"A player who n his fourth year should know better had cost Essendon any chance of a win"

Ralphy goes on and says

"The next coach will inherit Michael Hurley, Scott Gumbleton, Tayte Pears, Cale Hooker, Paddy Ryder and Jake Melksham.

But Knights has been crulled by the inability of Jay Neagle, Courtenay Dempsey, Bachar Houli, David Myers and Leroy Jetta to provide any meaning contribution"

I do like this last line from him though, pretty much sums up the player in the spotlight.

"At least Dempsey adds offensive drive, but if he gone within 50m of an opponent this season, we must have missed it"

Good old Ralphy..

LOL

Sums us up pretty much, talented bunch of talls, untalented list of plodders who are failing to take the opportunities given to them.

Any ways, I am going to stop blabbering on.. Some real talking points.

Re: List Management thread Mk II

Three main points:

1. Why delist Mark Williams? We have seen he has ample ability over the years, and Neagle and Gumbleton are still a year or two off becoming serious foward threats. He has the ability to kick 60 goals in a season, and he should step up once his body is back. Don't forget most of this season he has played with a stuffed up ankle.

2. Trading Gumbleton is a massive no no. Players like him don't come around everyday. He is a year or two away from really being a star. Every game he has played this year he has shown signs of improvement, and you would expect that to continue next season.

3. We should probably not go after rischetelli, and maybe after someone who can get the hard ball. Rischetelli uses it well in space, but so do players like Davey, Riemers and Winderlich. Get someone willing to get it out to them on the run

Re: List Management thread Mk II

OK, rethink. De-list (Trade bait):

Neagle, Dyson, (Jetta), (Prismall), Welsh, J Williams, Laycock, (Reimers), (Lovett-Murray), (Houli)

Jobe is 10.0 from set shots in 2010.
