List Management Who stays - who goes

As most of you know in a few weeks Sydney have to submit a list that has 3 holes in it for the national draft. These holes can be selected by rookie or father son pre selects. Brett Kirk has retired and it appears Mike Pyke is being promoted to the senior list.

This means though that 2 more names must be scratched from the list.

Who are they to be.

Brett Kirk - retired

De-listing candidates:
Ed Barlow
Matty O'Dwyer
Kristin Thornton
Daniel Currie * Unlikely but???

Additional Trade:
Bevan
Veszpremi
Richards
Mattner
Moore

I think were going the bare minimum in the draft this year and Ed Barlow is almost certainly to be sent packing. I think the third option is likely to be a trade option for a draft pick. This may be Veszpremi for a second round pick to the Tigers. But if we cant pull a trade who is is the the unlucky third to go?

Also what happens to our rookies this year, my gut feel is something like this.

Rookie movments
Henry Playfair retired
Mike Pyke promoted
Jake Orreal De-listed
Taylor Gilchrist De-listed
McNeil upgrade or retain???? - already one going up so retain.
Gordon - retain

And Grim feel free to cull the subject line st who goes ... the first time

There is no way that the Swans are going to draft an underage ruckman, put in four years (3 really) and then cut him. Daniel Currie will now be epected to play senior football next year and be given the year as his real shot at being an AFL footballer.

As for de-listings, we will only need two and they will come from two of Barlow, Thornton and O'Dwyer.

Trading wise I can see us doing anything this year unless someone like Vespremi wants to be traded and we can get a second rounder. If that happens, we would look to find another recycled gem for a second rounder.

None of Bevan, Richards, Mattner or Moore will be traded.

definitely get rid of barlow. Thornton probably would have to be the next, being on the list for so long without doing anything

CAS, Currie isn't going to be delisted.

1. He is contracted for next year so we're going have to pay him anyway and include that salary inside the cap
2. He has actually done well in the reserves, check out my last post in the reserves thread.

Cheers Grim, I did list him as unlikely so make that an extremely unlikely.
Though an interesting fact, he's the last player from his draft yet to debut still on a list.... and the draft after there is also just 1 too.

Now as for changing the thread title....

He and Daniel O'Keefe are the only 2 players in the Top 50 of their draft who haven't played a senior AFL game.

Tough on Richards for a trade, unluckiest bloke in our side, gets kneed in the back by Fev after being in ripping form and misses out on the 2006 Norm Smith medal (actually I think Kirky was 2 or 3 votes from winning it)

That bit was a myth.

Richards head space since the tigers game last year had bee very ordinary.

Not a lack of effort but a real lack of awareness had crept into his game. Sorry Ause I agree he had guts with Fev but Richards 2009 was poor and a reason he was quickly omitted from the team in 2010 for a slow showing early

You want to do a stat split between the first 8 games he played for the year and the second 8

I think you might find the stat difference, including any DE stats you might to be quite contrasting.

I also notice Collingwood game it marks as no frees against... he gave away two bad 50 metres that night. Thats also don't show what his opponent was doing and as a defender that's a bit of a tell tale sign.

Early he was on, but mid season the concentration lights went out. I want the 2007 ted back regardless of what the stat sheets says. And read your post in the POTY thread.

Completely agree, sorry CAS but I'd much rather Teddy in our 2011 plans than someone like Mattner.

Very important both structurally & depthwise, plays the role we need him to and only gets beaten when he's vastly outclassed by his direct opponent (ie Brown, Riewoldt, Pav).

Normally takes the 2nd or 3rd forward and generally holds his own, I dont think a player like that should be dismissed so unhesitatingly.

Would honestly prefer McVeigh or even ROK on the trade table ahead of Teddy, that may sound stupid but it's just my opinion.

Re: List Management Who stays - who goesList Management Who stays - who goes As most of you know in

i think barlow, o'dwyer and thornton should all be delisted, they have had a chance and proved they are unlikely to be afl players. we have to continue to bring in young talent.
With pyke upgraded from the rookie list and kirk retired that leaves us with 3 picks

21, 38, 55

last year 21 was bastinac, reid was 38, and denis-lane was 55. A good omen i hope!
This really proves that you can get some real talent even with later draft picks.

In terms of the draft table i think vez and currie may seek greater opportunity else where after being overlooked all this year.

There is also a sneaky chance someone like mattner, moore, bevan or richards may be delisted or traded to free up space in the team for some talented young players like Rohan. See buchannan, schnieder and ablett

What are you sorry for, notice I gave him votes last night for POTY. I'm just putting out the names of players who are struggling for a position in the best 22 when there are suggests they should really be in it.

I wasn't suggesting for a moment they should all be traded or delisted.

remember this...

Crunch time for Swans' Barlow

AFTER 25 games in four seasons at the Sydney Swans, Ed Barlow knows that 2010 is crunch time for his AFL career.
cya!
But if Barlow fails to capitalise on his promising 10-game stint at the end of '09, he knows 2010 could be his last hurrah at the top level.
orly?
"This year is a make or break year for me. I'm really looking forward to it and I'm really excited by the challenge," he said.
failed!

explains it all, GOOOOONE!!

Re: List Management Who stays - who goesList Management Who stays - who goes As most of you know in

The point is, I think Teddy hasn't been our worst performed this season

And fair enough.

I put his name out there because I don't know how keen the team are to have a 28 year old reserves player if he's not in the making for a regular team spot.

He plays like he did last night he stays, he plays like how he started the season or his mid season form last year than were better off without him. The uncertainty over Boltons injury it's probably worth keeping him.

McVeigh and Moore, goodbye please
Very disappointed in McVeigh since the end of 2008.

I've been a big backer of his and he's let me down, 5 good games out of 24 isn't enough for a guy who I thought by this stage in his career would be a shoe-in for the league's top 50 - he's looked miles away from that.

I've got a feeling he'll stay though, IMO his saving grace is Longmire won't be taking that many risks in his first trade week, but with all that being said he's the best bait we'd be willing to part with.

And oh yeah, f*** off Moore.

I would hang on to Richards. He certainly has not been a bad defender for us this season and this was evident on Saturday when Malceski,Grundy and Kennelly made some game changing errors (more so Heath and Nick before half time). There are not alot of defenders coming through.Maybe we will have to thrown Sam reid into the backline as apparantly there aren't many good defenders available to us in the draft.
