Might be able to beat SA I think. Queensland are a little short of quality midfielders.
I think you could be right. SA really struggle in the tall forward position at the moment with Westhoff likely being the only one of any note. It's not entirely clear which state Eddie Betts would play for but if SA didn't get him then they might really struggle to kick goals. They have Wingard and Puopolo but I doubt that could do it all on their own. The midfield battle:

SA - Ebert, Gibbs, Wingard, Neale, Fantasia
QLD - D.Beams, Zorko, C.Cameron, Harbrow, Armitage/Bell

Again, Viney is a Vic Metro boy. Also South Australia have this guy named Orazio Fantasia.

My mistake. Replace Viney with Fantasia. Who wins this midfield battle?

From what i have heard, Charlie Camerons little brother is at a boarding school in Perth and doing some training with the Eagles ATM.

Interesting, i imagine he is born a Qlder but in no way qualifies to be drafted by a local QLD team.

WYLIE BUZZA!!!!

Gonna be round a while too IMO..

Queensland seem to have no issue producing talls. Ballenden and Crossley will continue that tradition in this year's draft.

Can’t exactly call himmelberg a Queenslander as he only spent a couple of years there before being drafted.

Tom Jeffries of North Melbourne looks to be a genuine Queenslander as far as I can see, so I have him on my list. I also have E. Himmelberg (NSW/ACT), Joyce (NSW/ACT), Sexton (Vic.), L. Weller (Tas.) and Gilbert (NSW/ACT) all belonging to other states if "proper" State of Origin rules are applied.

You're definitely right about Tom Jeffries. He's a Queenslander from Nudgee College and I've added him to the list.

The other names are a bit more complicated and require strict criteria to determine their origin. For example, Jesse Joyce and Sam Gilbert both grew up in the Tweed Shire (just over the QLD-NSW border) but attended school and played junior footy on the Gold Coast. They both also played state championships for QLD and Joyce has often called himself a "local" when talking about the Gold Coast/the Suns. With Weller and Sexton, it's a simple question of what age do you consider young enough to have switched states? Sexton moved at 14 and Weller at 15. Lachie has also publicly talked about considering Gold Coast "home". I've decided to just leave those four players on the list because an argument can be made either way over their origin.

I have removed Himmelberg because he's definitely a New South Welshmen who spent just one year playing for Redland in Brisbane before being drafted.

I always strictly follow the "last used" State of Origin rules, which covered where a player resided for the majority of the time between the ages of 10 and 17.

So e.g. Sexton belongs to Victoria because he spent at least 4 years in that state and a maximum of 3 in Queensland (between 10-17). It's obviously really tricky in the case of Jesse Joyce, as it looks in so many ways as if he should belong to Qld., but he's lived in NSW since he was two so I class him as a NSW/ACT player. It would be interesting to know whether NSW(/ACT) were able to claim him a few years back for junior representative football (I suspect they would have been) and if they simply let him play for Queensland as they thought it was the right thing to do.

There seems to be two different sets of rules when it comes to NSW state borders. Players that hail from NSW towns that border Victoria and South Australia (Albury, Wentworth, Broken Hill etc) are highly prioritised and always represent NSW/ACT at the junior level (Tex Walker, Tom Hawkins, Will Setterfield etc).

Conversely, players who hail from NSW towns that border Queensland (Tweed Heads) are allowed to represent Queensland and fall under the Suns' academy zone. Could the Swans make a legitimate case to claim Jesse Joyce should be playing for them? I'm sure GWS would be claiming him if he lived somewhere like Broken Hill.

Yes, there's obviously a different "rule" with the northern NSW players for some reason.

Hawkins did play for one of the Vic. teams BTW, but that was (seemingly) only because his father insisted he do that. Bit of a mystery as to why that happened!

The Northern Rivers region of New South Wales is a peculiar one, particularly the area called Tweed Heads, because a lot of people consider it to be a part of the Gold Coast, even though it's not. Jarred Ellis is another interesting case. His hometown of Lennox Heads is located 85kms from the NSW-QLD border and he played junior footy for Ballina in NSW, yet he still went through the Queensland developmental system and represented QLD at state championships.

Also, you're right about Hawkins. This picture below should not exist...

Hawkins didn't just "decide to play for Vic Metro.

He had been boarding at Melbourne Grammer for a his entire high schooling.

Kids generally get that option and it's not unusual to play for the state you are going to school in.

Especially under the old Div 1, Div 2 system where there was a major gulf in standard.

I'm sure he would of played for the Allies under the current system, which is a lot better.

Yeah we almost have a superfluous of talls thanks to the academy. Jack Payne is another from 2017 and we have a few more on the horizon such as Kobe Tozer in 2019

I reckon a healthy QLD state team would be very hard to beat this year! Take a look at this:

QLD
FB: A.Aliir (Syd), R.Thompson (GC), J.Joyce (GC)
HB: J.Harbrow (GC), H.Andrews (BL), S.Gilbert (StK)
C: L.Weller (GC), C.Cameron (BL), J.Bowes (GC)
HF: J.Thomas (Col), C.Dixon (PA), D.Armitage (StK)
FF: B.Crossley (GC), E.Hipwood (BL), A.Sexton (GC)
FOL: B.Preuss (NM), D.Beams (BL), D.Zorko (BL)
INT: B.Keays (BL), T.Bell (BL), J.Dawson (GC), W.Buzza (Gee)

Beams and Zorko are playing out of their skin at the moment. Dixon and Hipwood combined for 10 goals this weekend just gone. Rory Thompson has been in good form this season, Harris Andrews has been labelled a top 3 tall defender in the league and Aliir Aliir is playing well for the Swans too. Charlie Cameron did some unbelievable things earlier this year and Jarrod Harbrow continues to provide class and dash off the halfback line. Josh Thomas is also having a career best year with the Pies. It really is quite a strong team in 2018.

Probably the second weakest SOO team in the league. I mean you can't seriously think that blokes like Aliir, Joyce, Gilbert, Armitage, Sexton, Preuss, Keays, Bell, Dawson and Buzza would get close to getting a game in the other teams, do you? Compare that to a WA side (off the top of my head):

Rance - Hooker - Sheppard
Wilson - McGovern - Johannisen
Hill - Fyfe - Hill
Petrevski-Seton - Franklin - Darling
Walters - Kennedy - LeCras
Ryder - Cripps - Yeo
Duncan - Naitanui - Kelly - Coniglio

They would get crushed and I'm probably forgetting quite a few players.

Agreed but it's expected - just as a Vic league origin team would be crushed by NSW and QLD. But the academies are slowly improving the number of quality QLD players. No Andrews or Hipwood without them

Be far better off doing an Allies team similar to that of the Under 18 Championships.
