So what would Hawthorn be prepared to give to get Gillies - 2nd Round?

Possibly a 2nd round draft pick. If not then maybe a 3rd & 4th round draft pick as the other option perhaps, not sure if Geelong will agree with that though?

Posted this on the roos board:

Roos are chasing Boak heavily, but if that doesn't come up we have had talks to Caddy's management and they believe they can get a deal done.

also Chris Knights is keen on a move to North because of our fitness coach Steve Saunders...Knights got work done by Steve when he had all those hamstring problems a few years back...

Chance Bateman is going to retire at Seasons end, Osborne just signed a 1 year contract extension. Not sure where the OP got his info regarding those two playing for GWS?

These are the players that i would be interested for Hawthorn to pursue.

Defenders

Mitchell Brown (WCE)
Tom Gillies (Geelong)
Tayte Pears (Essendon)
Simon White (Carlton)
Alex Silvagni (Fremantle)

Midfielders

Jordan Gysberts (Melbourne)
Sam Blease (Melbourne)
Koby Stevens (WCE)
Brett Meredith (Sydney)
Kane Lucas (Carlton)

Small Forward

Don't need any! :)

Tall forwards

None required for the next 8 years! :D

Ruckmen

Johnathon Giles (GWS)
Tom Derickx (Richmond)
Jordan Roughead (WB)
Stephan Martin (Melbourne)

What would hawks give up for Pears?

I am very confident that neither boak nor caddy will end up at north next year. Not trying to be inflammatory just have pretty solid mail.

That's fair enough too. Just because we chasing them hard doesn't mean they will be in Roos colours next year.

I think boak will be a cat and I think Caddy will be a don or demon. Doesn't me the food was actively chase after them!

You never know they could trade a Player like Monfries or Gumbleton out then on trade the pick to GC.

Or a their 2nd rounder and solid player for Caddy.

Or a third party could be involved...

It will be very difficult with our 1st pick reserved for Daniher. Only way I can see it happening is with a three way trade.

Monfries is a free agent BTW, unlikely to be a trade getting them picks there.

I could see him being traded, but he's not getting us anything in that sort of class.

So you guys are going to re-sign him (assuming no one else makes a significant play for him) and then trade him if needs be? I guess it's possible, but a bit of a headscratcher if it does occur given the club he'd be heading to obviously didn't rate him enough to poach him successfully. o_O

You've jumped from A to about Q there.

He might move, he might not. I have no idea.

If he goes as a FA, we'd probably get a second rounder - if we really want to move him as a trade, we'd probably get a second rounder. Wouldn't be earth-moving stuff either way.

I'm just trying to apply logic to it.

Monfries is a free agent, therefore clubs can contract him directly unless Essendon wishes to match or trump their offer (I think he's a restricted free agent).

For him to have value in a trade, Essendon would have to have re-signed him. Otherwise the club you're trying to send him to can just sign him directly, without providing any compensation.

It's quite rare for someone to be re-signed and then traded in the following trade season (though it does happen). It also seems that it would be rare that a club would be looking for a player in a trade that they could've picked up in free agency - though this would be less of an issue, assuming he's being sent as steak knives.

Hence head-scratching. Possible, but implausible.

Just trying to get people to realise there's not really a point in including free agents in trades until/unless they've signed.

Yeah I guess that's all so, dlanod
To me, all it points to is they haven't quite worked out where he fits in; and (if he were to walk) wouldn't be massively bothered.

Yeah, I agree with that. Monfries isn't a huge concern, compared to some of the other free agents who haven't signed yet across the league.

GC17 and StKilda are talking in regard to a trade. Gilbert for Caddy and maybe some shuffling of some late picks is basically done.

Witts from Collingwood also wants out with Sydney strongly in mix.
