Richmond get bagged for their supporters eating their own but ours are almost as bad when the chips are down  I thought we were better than that.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - he had an interrupted pre-season in which he said he wouldn't be back to full strength until around Round 6, couple that with his recent calf setback and our shocking delivery and what do you expect?

Some of you need to take a deep breath and relax. If there's no improvement in a few weeks then I would be worried.

Are we to cheer mediocrity like a Collingwood supporter, 1 premiership in 50 years?

That's not the Essendon way! Results speak louder than words, put the score on the board and the critics (like me) will be silenced. This will be the 4th season in a row without making the finals (being realistic with regards to finals). I have no problem with supporters bagging players after all we pay good money and they receive even better money, if they're not doing the job they're very healthily paid for then they should cop the criticism just as you or I would by our boss in the workplace if we were underperforming!

Did any of the people bagging Lloyd see the delivery to him on Friday night?

It was terrible!

It was said in another thread and I agree, switch our mids with Geelongs and Lloyd would have had 3 - 4 goals... Simple as that!

The delivery is what let us down not Lloyd!

Combintation of things, not just poor delivery- though that was a factor.

What a great champion he has been!

I don't expect (or want) people to wear rose coloured glasses but they way some people are carrying on is ridiculous. Eg. The poster that suggested that Lloyd retire at the end of the year (although granted I assume that person was under the age of 12.)

It's just been Round 5 people. As I said, if we haven't seen any improvement in a couple of weeks then I would be getting the knives out.

Yeah, agreed. :thumbsu:

Lloyd could be handy for a few years to come, no doubt, but can't be no. 1 target tis all.

Better news, I'm sure it's on the injury update thread but Lucas is a month ahead of schedule!!! WOO HOO!!!

Matthew Lloyd hasn't been at the top of his game for three years.

I am suggesting that he retire at the end of 2008 so that Essendon can plan for the future.

When do you suggest that he retire ?

I suggest he retires when he feels he can no longer produce for an entire season.

I don't know when that is, but I'm pretty confident that it's not now.

As for planning for the future, our future will be a lot brighter the longer Matthew Lloyd is around. No point chucking kids in and asking them to b ethe focal point of the forward line, it would crush them.

Would you give him that long? Really? I mean. Would you let him play 17 more games at < 15 disposals a game?

I don't think you want that. I think its better you slot someone with a potential shining future in his stead and watch them grow (+ gaining valuable match exp). Put llyodie in your 2nds and see if he can produce some form and consistancy.

Load of rubbish.

Matthew Lloyd has had two shockers this year, and two quite reasonable performances, one very good actually.

In the two games he's struggled, I would've liked to see anyone kick a bag. Good luck to them with the way we delivered the football.

As I said in my last post, it would crush a kid if they were asked to play Lloydy's role.

As for getting less than 15 touches a game, who cares. Fev had less than 15 touches and kicked 7 last week, got a problem with that from a Full Forward?

OK guys Lloydy didn't sruggle against Geelong the whole team did. He tried his best while being heavily tagged by Scarlett. He took 8 marks. Pretty good effort while playing in a side which had a shit midfield and got beaten by 99 points.

Lets do a comparison !

Posters have continually asked the question why is Jason Johnson still on the list.

Again, he is another player who is struggling with the demands of the modern game and is plainly past his best.

Matthew Lloyd is in exactly the same situation !

Whats the difference !

Lloyd kicked 62 goals last year at an average of 3.3 goals per game. He averages 3.6 goals throughout his career.

He averaged more marks and more possessions last year than his career average.

He's had 2 good games, 1 bad against Geelong (who didn't) and 1 poor game against the Saints when he's clearly not 100%.

JJ was finished two years ago and has nothing to offer the team. Lloyd has plenty to offer.

What does Lloyd offer us ?

- rarely takes a contested mark
- Is too slow on the lead
- Can only at Full Forward
- Falls to the ground too often
- Makes poor decisions when he is up the ground.

Do you think EFC will collapse because Lloyd is forced to retire at the end of the year ?

Did EFC collapse when James Hird retired and he was in far better form than Lloyd.

The stats tell the story of Essendons past and not essendons future.

Can't plan out your future on those stats when lloyd will never return to his prime form

-UM- No, its not rubbish.

How do you think Forwards develop? We put kids in our forward line and 1.5 years later they are first rate forwards (Franklin and Roughhead).

How did Lloyd enter your team if not straight into the forward line? How do propose to give any potential young forward match exp if you're not playing them? They don't drop off trees you know?!

Matthew Lloyd is an Essendon legend and only he will decide when it's time to walk away. Personally, I don't think it's right now. He's got plenty in terms of leadership to offer the kids coming through. He's also still a very good kick of the ball and a good, strong mark of the ball. Admittedly, the worry I've noticed with Lloydy is the amount of times he goes to ground. Once it was people saying he was "going for the free kick", but nowadays, he just seems to either a) take the easy option of getting away from a contest, or b) his feet don't move as quickly as his brain wants them to anymore.

Either way, I'm a Lloyd fan and I'd like to see him there at least until the end of next season. We are re-building and I think his role in this re-building period is vital.

That's my two cents anyway...

Are you ________?

You put the likes of Franklin and Roughead in with experienced guys like Dixon, Barker, Holland, Croad, Williams and let them develop. You didn't throw them in the deep end.

We are trying to do that with Gumbleton and Neagle. Gumbleton would be getting games now but is injured. Neagle also.

It's easy to sprout off if you don't have a clue but do a little research and you won't look like a fool!

You let your good kids develop with experienced players around them shouldering the load and in our case experienced champions teaching those kids. Experienced champions that can still play at AFL level!

So keep insulting me and playing hasbeens then.

Even your club recognises when the useby date has been reached; see departure of Kevin Sheedy 07

Were they the focal point of your forward line?

No, Mark Williams was with considerable support from Ben Dixon. Lance Franklin came in effectively as a flanker.

You can't ask a kid to come in and be the main target and take the best defender every week.

I'm not saying that Essendon shouldn't bring new talent into our forward line, we will in a few weeks when Gumbleton comes into the side after fully recovering from injury. What I'm saying is that we can't expect them to come into the side and be our focal point; it's too big an ask for kids that have hardly played.

I'll keep the insults flying because you obviously are only one here to troll.

Franklin averaged 13 possessions a game last year. I guess you were calling for him to be dropped then?

No, I like watching essendon play (exciting team) and think theres potential there. I just noticed a deficiency in your forward line (as did many bomber fans) and floated some ideas. Its not bay13 so please don't insult me anymore.

Huh? He came second in the coleman, and if you include finals, kicked more goals then anybody else! Lloyd aint getting possies or goals...
