heard from a realiable source that kennedy-hunt is playing for south adelaide next year, not sure bout any other werribee or lara players goin there but it seems as if they've picked up potter and watts. But if there hanging there hats on them 2 as there big recruits for 2009 the super saints will be in for a long year.

I know its very early but does anybody wanna have a crack at how the gfl ladder may look after round 18 next year?
From what i've heard Modda will be last, haven't recruited well

just a rough quess will probably end up miles off.

bell park
st marys
colac
st joeys
south barwon
leopold

very creative there ammos i like it:thumbsu:. Pretty bad that its only december yet we can basically write off grovie, nth shore, newtown, lara and st albans. Bit tired of seeing the same 4-5 sides fighting it out for the flag each year although certain clubs ie-grovedale fail with there recruiting and planning time after time

Grovedale

It's hard to see St Marys missing the top two. Likewise Colac would appear to be certainties for top three. Not sure Bell Park can improve enough to mix it with the better teams, especially without Garth. Joeys, South Barwon and GWSP have enough quality to play finals, while Leopold could climb a few spots after signing a few good players following a disappointing 2008. Surely Grovedale can't finish below North Shore. St Albans, Lara and Newtown could finish anywhere between fifth and twelfth - a couple of talented recruits would make a huge difference to these sides.

A very high up commitee member at grovedale was heard saying he'd be happy if grovie won 3 games next year. Does anyone know why this club struggles year in year out to recruit quality players? What do you blokes from other clubs think of the grovedale footy club? Ive heard they've got a pretty bad reputation around geelong anyone care to confirm this? They've got good facilities with massive junior set up and a very good supporter base who deserve more than the sh*t the seniors dish up every year.

With the word getting around that the Morrison's, Drake and Robinson all leaving the Newcomb Power where will this leave them? could they be worse than last season?

I'm led to believe Robinson and Bury are definitely off to Newtown...

Well this season could spell doom for the Newcomb Power, if they go through another season like last year and with no junior structure there in real trouble, which I hate to see. Having seen them twice last year and with basically there best 5 or 6 players gone they'll be looking at 40-50 goal defeats most weeks.

Maybe they should be looking at the GDFL.

What would be the point of that? If they are going to be that bad they would still get smashed by most teams in the GDFL (Winchelsea on 2008 form might be a good game).

On top of that they would also be competing with 2 other GDFL clubs in that area for players (Senior and Junior). As those involved with East and Thomson already realise it is hard to get junior numbers with most kids attracted to either St Alban's or St Mary's and the senior players are either loyal and long term with a few hired guns (Thomson) or hired guns plus their mates with a few locals mixed in (East Geelong). Therefore as it appears all their good loyal talent is now leaving, if they have no coin then times are really desperate.

Maybe they should think like Portalington and take a long term view, cop the pain, get the fundamentals at the club right and move on from there. If they cant do that then they will always be in trouble.

Unfortunately for Newcomb even the Junior ship has sailed. Pretty sure they didn't have one junior side in any competition this year, nor did they have an auskick program. Port may have not had strong juniors but they always had a full compliment of teams to provide future members, whatever their ability.
When newcomb were busy buying flags they should have shown some foresight in setting up an auskick, probably under lights on a friday night. That would have attracted a heap as from then on parents have the weekend free. People from Newcomb have to take their children to auskick in either Leopold or St.Marys. We all know it builds from those lower levels. Who will care about those flags when the club no longer exists?

Anyone know about Bell Park's clubrooms being torched last night? Ilive across from them and they are pretty bad!

yeh it started somehwere out the back and made its way in to the roof. the club is looking at temporary options to be used in the mean time while they asses whether to fix it or knock whats left down and start again...

just quietly i'm hoping for some new rooms as those were a bit out-dated...

I think you could be right, I don't think we'll see them take the field this year.
It looks as though there ground will be out of action for a fair part of the footy season as well with turf care stuffing it up for the 2nd time.

So taking all this on how will they survive?

Just ask Portarlington and Barwon Heads what happened after they bought premierships in the 90's, same thing is happening at Newcomb now. Its a shame, i hope they survive, any local club folding would be a tragedy. They need to spend their money on the kids. If you actually go to their website there is a long term plan for the club there that you can download, it is very interesting reading, and if they are implementing what is contained in that plan then they are heading in the right direction. I hope they are doing it.

I hope they survive also don't get me wrong, I just can't see it especially if they aren't playing games at home, it will really hurt them financially.

It just seems like such a coincidence if you look how the cricket club are faring too, there basically going through the same thing
They brought a heap of players a few years ago trying to get a flag and now they are really struggling as a club.

Must be something in the splashdown water over that way.
