Setting the foundation for a great club is not rocket science.
You MUST have a strong junior program. I played footy primarily at 2 clubs, St Mary's and Geelong Amatuers, and both had excellent pathways to Senior football. It takes effort not only from the comittee, but also from the Senior players. They need to be involved, not just turn up at midday and play, then sit at the bar. At St Mary's, guys like Peter Johnson, Terry Bright and Murray Whitcombe all were involved with juniors, even if it meant just showing and taking training once or twice, or coming along for a look at the games. I idolised those guys, and couldn't wait to pull on the senior jumper, just because i got to know them.
If you don't have juniors, you don't have a club. It's that simple.
