Hurn will probably be playing. Would have thought he would win

I love this idea btw

an amazing kick. I think hartlett would be our best but not in the same league as hurn.

Suggested something similar in one of the other sub forums.

I also reckon you could introduce a pro's v amatuer's competition. There would be plenty of booming kicks around the country who aren't fit enough or good enough to play in the AFL. Each club once a year has a long kicking competition and the 18 winners go to the GF.

Tom Fields has an uncanny resemblance to James Faulkner.

Check out the kick in from Ben Griffiths.

that's how to score. why not just do that every time rather than chipping or running around?;)

Given the sport is so uniquely demanding in so many different disciplines, I propose a football decathlon!

Let’s find the best all round football athlete!

  1. 100 metre sprint (speed)
  2. Standing jump test (vertical leap)
  3. Sled push across the G (strength)
  4. 1 x 3 minute round in the ring with a drunk / bouncer – after consuming a line of coke (nightlife)
  5. Laps of the G - 4 km time trial (endurance)
  6. Timed pint scull (Mad Monday)
  7. “Around the world” goalkicking from 30m distances (kicking)
  8. 1 x STD test, points lost for each live infection (dealing safely with groupies)
  9. Lou’s Handball (handballing)
  10. 1 x $50 bet with the TAB – highest return wins (chronic gambling)

Any nominations?

Tom fields? :)
Watson can take part and aim at Ratten who allegedly wanted us to draft a KPP...

Sergeant Schultz competition: Essendon players who aren't David Zaharakis.

I reckon this would be much more interesting than the Sprint... You reckon players would take a lot more pride in who can kick the furthest... Coz the Sprint always seems to be one or two guys taking it seriously and a few who are just there for the ride. (Probably coz there'd be a few who were junior sprinters).

Only caveat I would have is that it must be on the full.
I would love to see the Rocca boys take on anybody else (or even each other) but there's a bunch of names you could nominate

Hurn went through a patch mid season (4-5 weeks) where his kicking became mortal. As an Eagles fan it was odd seeing him miss targets.

Got his radar back now though

Such a weapon from the kick out that he can hit a bloke on the tit standing on the 50m arc and the defenders simply don't have time to cover the kick.

Great idea. Ive long thought the afl needs a n "all star weekend". Longest kick, goal kicking comp, skills challenge and an all star game with the previous years all australian side vs a team voted on by the fans. Even showcase an u/18s game with countries best players

This idea simply needs to happen.

It's 2015. The 'traditional' sprint has become a snorefest where nobody watching the GF really cares who wins. Make it happen AFL. Keep it simple, even corporates are sure to get on board i.e Woolies, Toyota, AAMI etc (so more $ for the game) plus it'll have that novelty factor that TV viewers crave at half time.

Only real issues are the weather. If pouring and blowing a gale, could turn out as a bit of a joke. As other people have said, run the sprint and the kicking one after the other. I'm sure it'll be a success.

Does anyone remember Goddard torping one from 65 which went through at post height at Subi?

Biggest I've ever seen.

Yeah that was ridiculous, he was still pretty young then too.
