Damn it I came across a spoiler on reddit about the episode I didn't want to know, just wanted to see what some of the reactions were. Won't be doing that again and besides quite a bit of Reddit stuff is negative in general so meh.

Really enjoyable finale. I thought it tied up the mysteries quite well and ultimately introduced the setup for the second age quite well.

While Halbrand was not my choice of Sauron, I actually think it was such a Tolkien thing to do. In his books, mystery has never been a big factor, and while the mystery of 'who's Sauron ' was a big part of the story, if you connect all the things we thought were red herrings, they actually make a lot of sense.

The Mithril to cure the leaves shit still stinks, but I think they can tie that up and connect it to Sauron in the second season assuming they want to.

Ultimately, it was a lot more entertaining than I expected, it gave a lot of love and respect to Tolkien and has got me looking forward to seeing the next four seasons play out.

I've overall enjoyed the show (and enjoyed the finale), but it's infuriating how this show can both move at glacial pace but also hyperspeed at the same time.

  • I will be interested to see how they incorporate the 7 and the 9. Will they be made by Sauron or will Celebrimbor keep experimenting with Sauron's techniques
  • Surprised we got nothing on Isildur's fate this episode
  • I actually like the idea that the show has for Sauron's motivations. Will be interesting to watch how he goes from where he is now to full-on Dark Lord

Awesome finale.

Pace of the season was up and down at times but really found its own in the last 2-3 episodes.

Really looking forward to next season.

I think it was like that as the first three episodes basically set the world up. 4-8 really progressed things. I think it is a rock solid foundation.

Wow. Wow. Wow.

That's how you do a finale.

The red herring at the start where 'The Mystics' called 'The Stranger' Lord Sauron threw me for a loop. Thankfully, it was just a case of mistaken identity. The Stranger is Gandalf. I was right there.

When Halbrand started giving Celebrimbor ideas of how to use the nugget of Mithral, which ties in with the original story (Sauron under the name Annatar helps the elves make the three rings), I knew right away he was Lord Sauron. They did it differently from what Tolkien wrote, but the bones of it were there. They are squeezing a few thousand years into this series, so it will differ.

I just loved everything about this episode. I can't wait to see season 2.

It was obvious Halbrand was Sauron as soon as he started talking smithing with Celebrimbor. Everything just fit.

I am pissed they made The Stranger Gandalf since we are thousands of years too early. I really don't know how they save that **** up.

All in all it was a good season despite what the nay sayers say. Great finale too except for the lack of Dwarves.

could still be one of the other wizards - unless I missed something?

When he said to the Harfoot that went with him, "when in doubt, always follow your nose" is exactly what he says to Merry in Fellowship of the Ring when they are in Moria. It was obvious before that point but that was a dead giveaway.

Episode was done really quite well all things considered. If it was a stand alone project it would have actually been decent.

That being said it made everything leading up to it almost worse.

- Girlboss galadriel realises she has ****ed up (Halbrand tells her it was her who pushed for him to come here) and is literally too self absorbed to realise. Then when the walls come crashing down she is too much of a coward to act on it and own up to her mistakes. Galadriel the possible worst protagonist in history.

- Pacing, we spend weeks on rafts and in sparring scenes and with the Harfoots being contradictory for the crux of the show to be occur in one third of an episode? Jesus ****ing christ, talk about a rush.

- The death of Gil Galad continues.. he's a cint because? Reasons? Oh right it's because he's a masculine male so he must be inherently flawed.

And now we come to the lore breaks, so no Annatar and the Elven Rings get made before the 9 and 7, all so that they can appease their stupid mithril vaccine plot that they pulled out of thin air? Follow your nose being in it, 1000 years to early, is he going to be part of the War of the Last Alliance now or what?

Also, "we need pure Valinor gold and silver" proceeds to just melt an entire dagger. Are you telling me that super strong dagger was made of silver and gold only? This show literally doesn't make any sense. These may sound like nit picks but it was honestly baffling.

It was obvious after the 3rd episode...

The line where he said following the sweet smell of the breeze at the end is exactly the same line Gandalf used when The Fellowship in LOTR was passing through Khazad-dûm, and he was trying to figure out which passageway to take. It's Gandalf.

I knew Halbrand was sauron, and they did a good job doing it, but interested to see how they go about the 7 & 9 rings, i wonder if Sauron makes them or Celebrimbor does, and also who the 9 kings of men are before they become ringwraiths? Anyway, cool to see Sauron making his way to Mordor, i’m keen to see him make the one ring to rule them all, and i’m definitely on team Sauron, really want to see him rise to power and create havoc.

Stranger very early on ticked all the boxes to be Gandalf, and they’ve all but confirmed that’s who he is.

Ruhn = East though and Gandalf never went east. Who did you ask? The Blue wizards. I don't think it's as cut and dry as he's definitely Gandalf. If anything I think there's been elements of all the wizards in the Strangers performance. Really though, Gandalf and Radagast don't go east - the Blue wizards and Saruman do.

That is true but I will say this. They have changed enough of the lore (whether by necessity or not) to make me think that they will change that if they so choose. As far as I know, Gandalf never came to Middle Earth before the Istari arrived. They are creating a totally new backstory for Gandalf so it is entirely plausible that he goes to Rhun. For all we know he won't actually get there. Now that Sauron is in Mordor, Gandalf wouldn't really have much cause to go East.

Yes but you're giving the writers too much credit assuming that they will stick to the lore and story that we expect them to be bound in. If you've seen this show, you should know that they obviously aren't doing that.

Galadriel never went to Numenor
The Elven Rings were made after the 9 and 7
Mithril vaccine isn't a thing

Etc etc
