Luckiest player to ever play in a premiership

A bigfooty myth I'm afraid!

Aside from the fact that Jones managed 158 games and 70 goals in his career (which he chose to end - not delisted) he had a pretty good year in 2006 averaging 19.6 disposals and 2.5 tackles, kicked 9 goals, scored a brownlow vote and made many sheperds and hard ball gets...

The Eagles and Daniel Kerr could really do with him now...

Maybe not the best player to play in a premiership but the worst? Come on:thumbsdown:

everyone loves to bag rojo because he couldn't kick

but if you watch the 2006 premiership again - there was only one bloke from our side still leading and running to space in the last few minutes.

put on a great spoil in the middle of the ground which won us the game

well said, he would be top 5 players in the melbourne team atm IMO

kicked a very important goal im considering us lucky for having him in team

no doubt - i cheered him on!

i never said he was the worst - just the luckiest

but has overcome a lot to get where he is

delisted by melbourne, survives tsunami, overcomes deformed calf, rookie listed by eagles, gets a chance through injury (phil matera retirement) - gets a game and wins a flag

a lot of smiling gods there

Pretty sure it was the Bali bombings, not the Tsunami that he survived

My mates and I used to always have a laugh that Daryl Freame got a game for Richmond in the 1980 GF. And Monteath (the captain) wasn't lucky to be there - he had led the team well throught the year but form dropped off in the finals, hence he started the GF on the bench.

Carlton has had a few

Mario Bortolotto played 30 games with Carlton after being rejected by the cats and played in 81 & 82 day flags and 83 night flag. He replaced the injured Geoff Southby who missed 2 flags due to injury.

Scott Howell 81 flag - played as FB on Peter Moore after Southby was out injured and kept him to 1 goal. Bortolotto sat on the bench for the whole game in case Howell struggled.

Fraser Murphy in 87 after Bernie Evans was suspended.

Robbert Klomp in 82 after Rod Austin was injured in the prelim final (Austin missed both the 81 & 82 through injury).

Warren McKenzie in 87 after Sartori was injured in the 2nd semi.

Rod Jamieson - allthough a good player in the H&A, he pulled a hammy at the last training session on Friday Before GF but told no-one. Ran onto the ground knowing he would pull up short - played two minutes?

Still got a medal though!

Such a comment only shows your ignorance.

Steven King was definitely lucky.
He was out of the senior team for most of the year, but only got the gig in the GF because of the opposition.
He did well in the game, but was extremely lucky to be there in the first place.

and the anti-rojo train begins again. FFS, he was not a bad player. He just couldn't kick fot s***. He was a link man who tried his nuts off and did things for the team rather than himself. Better than half the freo team at the very least.

From my club I would say Toby Thurstans and Matthew Bishop.
Shane Ellen from Crows FC would be another.Although he starred in the GF he didn't do much more his career.

Thurstans kicked 4 goals and Bishop was our CHB, you must be kidding!

Shane Ellen also kicked a bag!

In 2002, Beau McDonald got injured in the Prelim, declared himself right, and got re-injured in the same way in the first quarter of the Grand Final. He should probably give that medal to Jamie Charman, who should have played.
