People comparing meek to Jackson in terms of output can’t be serious, when meek was a 20 year old he was running round at Peel reserves and looked positively useless.
I’m firmly in the bring jackson in camp.
He will definitely improve dramatically as he gets to age 24, 25.
Very few talls his age are the finished product. Actually none.
Max Gawn didn’t play AFL till he was 23!
I could see flashes of Jackson’s agility and ground level ball winning ability last night and it was very good.
He’s a different type of ruck to Sean Darcy too.
The only concern I have is the salary we are paying him early on, and also the WCE biased media.
I think he will easily become an $800k player in time.
We have to remember however that he was a Nab rising star winner last year and is a KPP.
Therefore he would be on $500-550k this year for that reason alone. He’s not earning pennies at Melbourne this year.
I reckon Melbourne would be offering him between $650 and 700k to stay.
I think we would have come in with maybe $750k over 5 years.
Here’s a question:
Luke jackson for 7 years at $750k
Tim Taranto for 7 years at $750k

Who are you picking right now?
It's not a dichotomy, you don't have to pick between Taranto or Jackson. You can have neither.

I know we don't know the facts about what we are offering but the man bought a $1.74 million house. You don't do that unless you have guarantees made about your future. My opinion means nothing but surely we would have made a commitment to bring him home at the beginning of the season which was tied to Lobb expressing his desire to leave. This theoretical move by the club would also come with hefty contract. If this is true than we won't be lowering our proposed contract based on his current output. See how we go.

The three offers (Dees, WC and us) were all suposedly close, so no matter what happened (except maybe an ACL), he was always looking good for the next 5 years you'd think.

That said, I agree it is highly unlikely we can change anything at this point except maybe to try and lowball the Dees a bit.

His family is living in that house. It's just under his name.

Houses being bought and sold by AFL players are not a sign of anything.
You can sell a house at 3 weeks notice!
Well he doesn't have 1.74 mil in cash laying around so you need a loan. Borrowing power is determined by income.

Don't quite understand this boards JVR obsession. Kicking a few snags in VFL (somewhere in standard halfway between WAFL reserves and seniors)? The guy hasn't played a seniors game.

Given he's currently being held out of the Melbourne side by the resting ruckman and someone doing a Ben Brown impression, to me there no evidence as yet he's even going to make AFL standard. (Sure he may, but it's not been SHOWN)

I do wonder how good he is given the knock was athleticism. Can dominate the lower levels with average athleticism but those blokes often get found out up a level.

Would like to see him play for the Dees next year just to see what the hype is about.

Scoring power?

Tap power?

Tackling power?

Unless it's the first one I don't want it
I'm starting to feel the same. What does he possess that will fill a gaping hole we need filled? Especially at that price?

The forward line needs sorting out but I think we have the young players who can fill that role.

It's the forward setup and the entries into the forward 50 I am concerned about.

If we look back on the Western Bulldogs, we can see similarities to their
rise to win the premiership in 2016.
The acquisition of Boyd on a huge contract, Jackson to Freo.
Forward line was serviceable but it was their running. handball, that was a
strength not firepower.
Was Boyd worth the cost? No he wasn’t worth a million a year, but they don’t win a flag without him.

The fact that Jackson is already out on the paddock in a contenders side at his age is enough evidence alone that we’re dealing with a very special talent. Turns 21 later this month and has more development left in him than Serong (given his tougher position). You don’t look such gift horses in the mouth.

Get him in Belly. When JL brings in Jackson and Amiss permanently next year, gets Fyfe up and running and slots Erasmus into Mundy’s role (as much as we all love him, he did look painfully slow at times last night) with cameos from Johnson, we’ll be on the up again. Lobby, Logue and the Sheriff are all replaceable/expendable for mine - if they in fact go.

Yes I agree I was on the JVR train at draft time , But on disclosed form glad we chose Amiss . And I will accept that I was wrong.

Sooooo much water to go under the bridge on this one.

3 firsts - we couldn’t seriously pay that.

if we roll up compo Lobb - Sheriff- Logue and see where we’re at.

Jackson is a quality individual and at his age for his position….5 years @ 700K would be in our favour if we can get the trade right.

Was thinking I’d be fine trading a future first but now I’m not too sure... Pretty risky with quite a few players leaving.

Only need to look at the Dees the year they drafted Jackson to know the danger. Prelim to 17th. Young team with quality mids and defense and ordinary forwards...

So I watched both of Melbourne's finals in the last 2 weeks. Jye Amiss had better games than Jackson did.

No doubt he will be a very good player, but I really hope we don't sell the farm for this.
