For those still on the fence, I'd argue that our development program over the last 4-5 years has generally been top notch.

Jackson will definitely get the best out of himself if he lands at Freo.

Where does he play next year?

What is his best position?

Not sure spending big on rucks, is the best strategy.

Short term I'm playing Jackson as a direct replacement for Lobb in the relief ruck role and for center bounce stoppages where the opposition ruck is leaping over Darcy - Darcy still rucks around the ground but Jackson positions himself in the corridor to be a marking target, when Jackson is in the ruck Darcy is a deep tall inside fifty.

Longer term I'm playing Jackson as a clearance midfielder and occasionally winning the extra free kick as opposition midfielders block Jackson from the ruck contest after he nominates for the ruck. Sean then also patrols across half back when the opposition slow ball movement allows him to be that extra - think that game against Hawthorn two years ago except we will have a ruck option further up the ground.

I see Jackson as being a roaming CHF, using his mobility up the ground and giving a target down the line when we can’t transition quickly through the corridor.

Amiss is the deeper forward.

Not worried about his last 2 finals. In the GF last year I actually think he was instrumental in swinging momentum in the third quarter. Not to forget that he took a couple of contested marks throughout the game, as well as having several clearances and score involvements.

How long are we gonna keep bringing up one good quarter from a year ago to justify this trade

You couldn't make that case from those highlights.

In the 3rd quarter
  • he get a free kick for getting pushed under the ball and kicks it long to a pack
  • wins two hitouts in the Dogs D50 but nothing significant happens after
  • loses the centre bounce to English, but Viney soccers it forwards where Jackson is standing (goal side of the centre). He picks it up and handballs it to Oliver who kicks a goal. Most importantly, they are already 18 points up at this point.

The reputation of that 3rd quarter is certainly better than those highlights.

Yeah, look I wasn't using those highlights to justify the trade by any means. I was just using it to say that I'm not worried about him not being able to perform in finals, given his performance in that GF. I think those highlights over the course of the match confirm that he played well in the GF overall

King reckons he can take marks on the wing. That would definitely fill a need if we want to kick down the line more often. Collingwood showed you can't always get space, centre corridor or switch. We look paralyzed if those options are taken from us.

You take talent like this who is from WA when its available, he is young and shown his athletic ability so he can play 75% fwd 25% ruck (he can refine his footy IQ to play forward).

For everyone who doesn't want this trade and we should go for someone else, who else is available?

JVR isn't leaving
Jack Williams hasn't even got a game for WCE
Logan McDonald signed on for Sydney
Georgiades for what you'd pay you may as well front up more for a bigger talent
Naughton doesn't want to leave

There's not many WA born forwards who will come here, and the one who may want to come home and arguably the biggest talent of the lot people seem to have issues with. Im also staying away from signing Eastern states players who are already drafted into the AFL because they seem to head home after 3-4 years.

If we miss this boat we are stuck with a average forward line for another 2-3 years, this years draft is weak and any draftee taken in the years after is going to take years to build up to AFL level, assuming there's a generational KPF we can land.

Even better would be if he can mark in the middle. I hope losing Acres means we're abandoning the wing as our path forward and taking the Collingwood/new Geelong route: straight down the middle. It relies on being able to win 1-on-1 contests.

More dangerous on turn-over but certainly an option at times. Just think it is important to work on set-ups down the line for when needed. We lose most of them from what I can tell. No reason to and limits our options.

Nobody, if nobody suitable is available, you draft. Bank the cash (we are going to need it) and wait for the right opportunity, not just any opportunity.

Also I don't think this is fair

Since it is true whether Jackson comes or not. Doesn't need to be a KPF or generational. Just forwards that are better than ours now.

Teammates rave about his influence, game changer as far as they’re concerned.

Will he play forward?

The problem is anyone who may be somewhat suitable will be gone by the time we get a pick, and it's a unanimously weak draft this year. So if you sit around holding cash for the hope that someone pops up you better cross your fingers they do or you'll be bringing in gumbleton 2.0.

And trying to find forwards who may be better than Tabs, Amiss, Sturt or Treacy you are also crossing your fingers and touch wood that one comes along and wants to come to WA.

There's alot of hypothetical and maybes in waiting, where you can take a unanimously super talent fwd/ruck now.

You should be angry the highlights aren't better.
Highlight reels often leave a little on the shelf. It's difficult to capture the seizing and exploitation of momentum without context.

Watching last year's granny, if you weren't genuinely impressed by Jackson's work out of the middle, and what it meant in that moment, then you were busy getting a beer or not a very good judge of the footy.

Lloyd Meek, who I would say is an Aldi Jackson, was not doing that sort of shit when he was 20. No-one was.

From what I can tell, Jackson often doesn't try to mark the ball but do double handed taps down to smalls. Probably a lack of confidence in his marking, but we would need to try and make that work. I.E some of our small forwards need to stay put.

A: You don't know that - likely you are basing that off reading draft forum which is not reliable. Even if every recruiter agreed it still proves nothing as spuds are routinely found in the top 10 and stars in the rookie draft.
B: Its likely 2 drafts we sit out of the first round. The more chances you have, the more likely you are to hit. I think this is impossible to argue against.

Exactly my point if you read the first post, those highlights don't capture any of that.

If he comes I would bet that he will fill into Lobbs role. Pinch hit and second ruck when needed but Darcy stays the main ruck.
He seems pretty unconvincing inn that position so far, and I really want to see development in Amiss, Treacy and Sturt (Kuek?). We also have Taberner and Fyfe to consider. And Logue hasn't actually departed.

One of my major reservations about the trade is about what role he plays. The easiest fit seems rotating wing if Acres leaves.

I'm sure he will spend time forward, but differently to how Lobb is used.
