I think if Eagles comes out and say we want Jackson it's not serious. Just doing the same as Freo did on us in the Kelly trade.
TBH I thought this exactly why they are doing it. Nisbett is pretty small minded.

In practice how could the trade work for the Eagles unless they are prepared to trade 2 outright. They can't split down to something that can be used by itself, they'd have to include additional assets that they should be using to rebuild their list.

Jack'son, Allen and Barrass is a pretty good spine to fast track a rebuild around.

You guys can have Jackson on one condition. Freo never interferes in our trades like how you interfered in the Kelly trade. It's time for Freo and Eagles to stop this nonsense as it hurts both clubs. Both clubs just need to just stay out of each other's business.

If Eagles are interfering saying we want Jackson it's only due to what Freo did with the Kelly trade. Doubt we seriously want him. This is likely Melbourne talk to raise his price.
why wouldnt you seriously want him though? besides the potential cost in picks, seems like hed be a better fit for you than for us

Two first rounders for one player would be crazy. All you need is to get some recurrent long term injury and you have effectively lost the equivalent of potentially two top end players. It's not that I don't want him it's just Jackson is primarily a ruck which we already have a decent one.
I think this is a scenario where ye olde adage about a bird in the hand actually is worth two in the bush rings true. IF the club really does believe that Jackson is not simply a best 22 player but a cornerstone piece then two late first rounders is fine.

Production trumps potential.

The question marks for me are about the club's assessment of Jackson and his role, and their resolve to achieve a modest trade cost.

Players aren’t robots. I suspect should Jackson end up here he will be a much better player than he’s produced this year.
With family & friends around in a location your familiar with at a club you love, I think he’ll step up a level or 2.
If he’s homesick, there’s no doubt his football will be affected, not to mention the decision playing on his mind & then the thought of having to tell Melbourne of his decision all would take his focus off playing good footy. It’s a tough situation for a young bloke.
I’m in, because I think once comfortable he will explode.

I think there's a part of us that although we can do it to annoy Freo due to what happen with the Kelly trade we don't want cross the line in taking a player you lot have claims on. Even if it's seems invisible there is a respect thing between both WA clubs. The hidden rule is first in gets that player. Freo obviously have been talking to Jackson for some time. Doubt Eagles really want to get in the way of that but Freo should respect the boundaries set in place and in future if we go for a player you lot stay out of it.

I believe this may also have been the case with Logan McDonald.

Media mind games are starting already.

He's requested a trade to WA but not a specific team? Lmao, as if.

It would be uncouth for Peter Bell to push out a media piece welcoming the nomination of Fremantle as his preferred destination by Luke Jackson - but I'd love the mind games of it.

Alright so all I can think of is what could go wrong. For the supporters of the trade what are the main benefits justifying the risk?

Just rewatched the full 3rd quarter of the GF. To say I’m excited is an understatement. His best is as a midfielder who can ruck. Darcy, Jackson, Serong and Fyfe at a centre bounce would be incredible.

Edit: and I can also see quite clearly how that knee injury has been hammering him this season. His spread from the contest in this is much, much better than any legit ruckman, but he’s lost that a bit in recent

he was there last year
Tell me more.

We need a nosy reporter with a microphone to corner him and ask him if it's true that he wants the best deal for Melbourne and would go to either club.
If he says yes he has my respect.
If he says no, I want Freo we then know the Melbourne list manager is playing silly buggers
