You'd have to do your due diligence on Luke Jackson the person. There's always the slim possibility that he's a Morabito or Paddy McCartin at St Kilda where their body lets them down but for Hogan and Bennell it was essentially off field issues. There haven't been any rumours of Jackson getting up to mischief or being mates with Charlie?

Charlie has many AFL player friends. In fact, I would go as far as suggesting he is a best mate to many.

Max King & Peter Wright both kicked 50+ goals this year in bottom 8 sides. Taberner has never kicked more than 37 in a season…

Although stats don’t always tell the whole story, goals kicked is a pretty good indication.

Looking at that list I wouldn’t even have Tabs in the top 20

This is a straw man. Tabs is good at what he does and had a brief window where he was a top 6 KPF. Currently, due to some deficiencies in his game and recurrent injuries, he’s a fair way off being a top 10 KPF in a relatively deep field.

I think mike91 addresses with the next one though, people are going to far one way or the other. Tabs is a good player when fit, he doesnt "suck" and he's not close to "one of the best KPFs in the league"

The insults need to stop. From a community standpoint no one should have to feel discouraged from contributing to a discussion out of fear of being called names. Imagine joining BigFooty to connect with some fellow Freo supporters and getting called a nuffie because of your view on subject. Talk about ‘pot shotting your own’.

Back to the subject though. I’m wondering if the Jackson acquisition is more of a hedge against Darcy leaving. Really doesn’t add up from a list management standpoint. There’s also a possibility that we become a much better a side with Jackson operating as sole ruck. What happens to Darcy in that event?

Tabs, with an injury free run, has shown that, after a rather long apprenticeship, he has the goods. Biggest knock on his game is that his body is seemingly not up to the rigours of the AFL. His best year, games wise was 2020 when he played a total of 16 from 17 games. Unless he has a little luck with his body moving forward he is of limited value, rising 30, with his feet (which he seems to have overcome) and soft tissue injuries. I doubt his ability to play consistently but I'd love nothing more to see him play a full season alongside Amiss.

No point bagging Tabs, he’s been the one KPF we’ve had over the years that can compete at the highest level. A few have been bought in & moved on for various reasons as we know.
The problem has been the lack of support around him.

Not much diference between named for the provisional AA squad then not making the cut, and the crazy aunt/uncle you met that one time, that doesn't make the cut for wedding invites.

I'd like to think our tall forwards in the AFL will soon be Treacy, Amiss and Jackson.

Back to Jackson, I'm begrudgingly willing to accept our current and future firsts. But I'd rather keep our future first, so hopefully our current first and #19 (if we get from North) is enough. More than enough in my view

Gotta love the diverse opinions on here. Everyone has players they want to support and others they're not quite sure on. I think Tabs is ok and a very good KPF when up and running.
But then I still question whether Treacy will make it at AFL level, which is a very unpopular opinion around here. Hope the kid does, he's 19 or 20 after all. I still question Freddie's consistency in work rate and whether he finds the ball anywhere near enough, which is also unpopular opinion around these parts. Again, I hope he continually improves as he is both my son's and daughter's favourite player. Freddie's a highlight reel and excitement machine. Difference is that I genuinely like these guys
whereas going by the comments on BF and Facebook, I think many of the Taberner or Banfield critics have a genuine dislike for them and take it all way too personally.
