I don't see any way we keep both Jackson and Darcy on the list. They both play the same position and you'd expect both of them to be in the top 5 in that position in the league in the near future.

So does getting Jackson mean that we expect to lose Darcy somewhere down the line?

Exactly. I reckon Logue is better in the fwd line.
Logue is horrible in the forward line. He can hardly take a mark and when he does would be one of the most inaccurate shots there is. His only attribute in the forward line is to try and not let opposition take uncontested marks which surely Jackson could do better.

I think they are the exact opposite of each other.

Darcy is strong in the ruck contest and taps to advantage. Jackson gets moved off the contest and doesn't get his hand to it. Darcy doesn't have the speed and follow up when the ball comes to ground, Jackson is like a 4th midfielder and a gun clearance player.

Jackson can leap over opponents, Darcy much less so.

Darcy is a good mark and set shot forward.

Jackson literally plays in the same team as the best ruckman of the last decade.

I have no concerns whatsoever that Darcy and him can play together.

For the lols... Zac Clark (2014) V Luke Jackson (2022)

Zac has him covered for Kicks, Marks, Goals and Hitouts.

Someone said would you swap Logue for Jackson in the forward line.

Massive upgrade on that new role. Defensive 3rd tall forward. Jackson has wicked pressure.

Yeah get him. He would be super fun to watch with the rest of the motley crew

Have you watched Jackson in the FWD line?
He's Logue without the defensive mindset.

No. Different players for mine.

Jackson is undoubtedly a talent so it's hard to resist him if he wants to come back to Perth. If Lobb can be convinced to stay on then e would not even be having this conversation as adding Jackson would not be considered necessary. Lobb's impending departure means we have to look at someone like Jackson to fill the ruck/forward spot and he potentially fits that bill albeit he is much more a ruck/forward rather than the forward/ruck that Lobb is. I guess we have to do our best to get him but I do worry a little about losing Logue in the process of doing so.

The benefit of getting Jackson is that when he spells Darcy, we lose nothing in the ruck nor in the forward line if Darcy spells there for some period as well.

Yeah that Melbourne combo of Gawn/Jackson is just horrible. 😉

I think people's opinions on this have been coloured by some spectacularly stupid hot takes from prominent commentators during the year.

No-one credible has suggested we're looking at him as a KPF.

Where bringing him in does work is if we're really serious about moving to a genuine two-ruck set-up, as his attributes and skill-set compliment Darcy's far better than Meek's do. It also means we go all in on Amiss and Tabs/Treacy as the two main KPFs.

If that's how the club is looking at it, I think we go for it - but walk away if it looks like becoming a Kelly-esque sell the farm scenario.

It looks like we are planning on paying our #2 ruck significantly more than our #1 ruck.

S/He didn’t say Logue was ‘good’ in the forward line. Just ‘better’ (than Jackson).

It’s more a nil all draw for mine.

Ignoring the price tag for a moment and focusing on whether Jackson is actually any 'good' given his current lackluster form... let's not forget a there was quite a few voices on this board proclaiming Darcy wasn't actually any good when he went through a bit of a dip in form around his 3rd/4th year (I forget the exact period).

The same logic used against those shortsighted fools still applies here - even rucks who become superstars are often not even getting a game at the age that Darcy and Jackson were showing the quality they did.

I fully expect Jackson will become a top quality player. What I worry is he may still have some growing pains to come and the eagles media are going to absolutely crucify him during that period if they've anointed him a highly paid superstar ahead of his time (regardless of how disingenuous that might actually be).
