Roast Luke Meehan Departs Richmond

Should Richmond look for a big bucks, top tier replacement for Luke "The Punt Rd Slasher" Meehan?

  • Yes. Club needs to be ruthless and "Pay the Price!".

  • No. We should back in Meehan and gamble our aging stars bodies, potentially sacrificing 2024.

  • No. replace with another el cheapo McGee with their online $29 P.T cert IV and cross our fingers.

  • Undecided.

Hamstring issues go as far as how the person even sits at home. If they’re sitting like an idiot, that can cause all sorts of issues leading to tight muscles that then affect the hamstring. Everything is connected. I cringe when I see a player slouched down on a chair during games just knowing how they must be sitting at home on the couch

Hmmm so it's not Meehan's fault then its Sony Playstations? :tearsofjoy:

I'm of an other opinion in regards to these sports injuries at RFC.
I'm thinking the new broom that swept through the Club...Coaching and assistant wise...made a wrong judgement call in regards to the over all fitness levels of the Club's players.
In their haste to raise the fitness levels they may just have miscalculated how the newer levels would affect an ageing and well worn group of ageing premiership stars.
Too many ageing stars just canna compete against the rising young stars of the AFL!
Left their best performances on the pre-season training tracks...
Ageing bodies and their legs are just being exposed espesh on dry sun baked grounds...and hot playing conditions.
Climate change is no joke!
How have they raised the fitness levels? They have actually dropped their standards in this area and that's why injuries continue to happen. My evidence watching is that we were further behind clubs up to our first three games and have been slowly building. We still struggle to see out for full quarters though.

Or maybe it's just due to the types of injuries to the list with about a dozen with between a month and a season away from returning which under Meehan you need to add another 4 weeks to the injury list

Or maybe it's due to players not playing on either VFL or AFL team but not appearing at all on the injury list ... Judson Clarke last week, Jacob Bauer before that, Cumberland this week

Or maybe it's the type of injuries are consistent with training loads .... last season there was half a dozen with foot stress reactions including fractures to Soldo, Lynch and Smith. This along with the pattern of calve (Broad & Dusty recently) and hamstring injuries are consistent with risks of training for explosive power.

For the record, I have a major in Exercise Physiology with a HD in Musculoskeletal Anatomy

But what do I know ... regardless of the cause it ain't good enough ... and don't get me started on the long term back injuries to players over 195 over the last two years
can u apply for his job, need him gone

How much youth in the side. Could be playing apart to why we are not playing full qtrs.

Load of bs that is get your facts right.

"RICHMOND has executed a coup of its own, poaching Neil Balme from Collingwood and installing the former Tiger as its new football manager."

He come end of 2016 and swept the place upside down because it was a mess.Balme was the face of the footy department until 2020 when he didn't go to the hub. Since he has been demoted our high standards have slipped bigtime.

Yes he was the face of the footy dept.
That’s all.

Or maybe because he didn’t have a role?
Ffs mate where have you been?
The initial injuries are one issue but the reoccurrence of the same injuries is what’s unacceptable. Meehans job is to rehabilitate them so that the injury is recovered, strengthened and then manage their playing time to ensure it doesn’t happen again. That has been a dismal failure under his watch.

14 running stats in the tracker. we pretty much broke even fitness wise with sydney. Grimes, Broad, Dusty missing a few games

Injury is the issue. Gibcus 2 bad but separate injuries? Lynch getting badly injured in his second game in a year. Is it related to previous injuries?

Bauer? seems injury prone, but injuries a hammy in his comeback not good? who's that on?

A change of personnel? may as well. Who ?
As many question marks in your post as there are on Louie Meehan

Another one bites the dust, Ross stress fracture 10-12 weeks.
I'm going to need everyone who voted other than yes to go change your votes now.

This is egregious and something needs to happen. If Luke Meehan is still head of strength and conditioning in 2025 I'll actually be dumbfounded.

At the end of this year, anyone over 30 with a solid injury history or anyone younger with 4 or 5+ bad reoccurring injuries need to be said goodbye to.

The damage has been done.

But first Meehan needs to be replaced.

Something has to be done now as it’s pretty obvious our preseason preparation wasn’t up to scratch and it was evident when we were getting run over in games early on that we were lacking fitness. Then the extra stresses and strain has opened up to all these injuries. Then rushing players back after long term injuries and leaving them on the ground when injured has led to longer time for rehabilitation and recovery. It’s an amateur show bc we’ve refused to invest money into replacing Meehan and the medical staff. This is on Benny now as he’s been too busy pursuing a career elsewhere and fallen asleep behind the wheel. I’m losing count of all these injuries now, but one thing I can say a lot of posters were predicting this mid last year. It’s now come to bite us on the bum.

The whole club has become stale and an old boys club of mates now and needs an overhaul from the top down to the cleaner. We are a rich club trying to do everything on the cheap and the results are evident.
I wouldn't say the whole club as there has been change in coaches and recruitment. No doubt the fitness and conditioning needs a overhaul it's a mess. The appointment within look very uninspiring. Standards have dropped bigtime since our flag years. For me it comes back to Tim Livingstone his in charge of the footy department he needs to answer. This bloke is no messiah it was Balme who got us on track and since Balme got demoted proves in the pudding.

nope the FD is a rabble as they continue to play dead wood and are too scared to drop non performing players. Rutten and Teague are both a joke and Yze is not far behind them as he's following their footsteps. The fact standards have dropped is bc the fish rots from the head.
