Luke and Jy struggled as leaders last year maybe with the extra support of some experienced players they can grow and become the experienced leaders we will need them to be in a couple of years when the guys we have brought in are retiring.

But IMO pointing to 1973 and Davis as precedent doesn't really work in 2024.
So much has changed since, players have become professionally paid athletes, not part timers for starters.
The system and clubs have evolved massively.
I think it would be a far bigger deal than Davis coming across and grabbing the (C), for a player to do it today.

Leadership ability doesn't change. If he is the right man for the job, with the leadership we think he has, it will work.

I don’t doubt Parker’s credentials as a leader, but I reckon what’s being forgotten a bit is that first and foremost, he’s a gun footballer.

I’d personally prefer to see him 100% focused on his role, which imo should be as a centre square mid. Lead the midfield group at the coalface where it counts.

I stand by what I said last year, if Clarko allows the players to vote in McDonald again, my interest for season 2025 will be largely killed. I really can't take it anymore.

Luke McDonald will be the litmus test for our success next year, if he is Co-Captain and best 22 we may as well just write off the year we aren't improving.

He also doesn’t need to captain to drive standards and help some of young future leaders develop.

You can't have Parker as captain next year.

Im sure he'd refuse it anyway.

He doesn't know the playing group, he doesn't know the club.

As good as he's been, he's in his 30's, he needs to earn the respect of his team mates at training and on the field. It is irrelevant what he did 10 years ago for Sydney in terms of that aspect. He will of course demand initial respect because of his playing career, but if he is over the hill very quickly, he shouldn't be captain.

It would have been akin to making Liam Shiels captain (not saying Parker is that cooked yet, but he needs to prove it).

Im sure he will be in the leadership group.

Personally, if it was a coaching decision, I would make Sheez the captain. He's an not a normal 20 year old.

I'd have Xerri and Chom as his Vice Captains, with Parker and Larkey the other two in the leadership group.

What if they named the captain(s) in Feb?

I personally would like Xerri to be our captain… something about having a big brute ruckman as our captain that I love.
No surer way to make a statement after a run of goals by the opposition than to run in & crunch your opponent in the very next act after a goal, or lay a bone crunching tackle on our of their star midfielders.

Why keep making the same mistakes expecting different results? He’s not cut out for it. He’s done. Both of them. The writings on the wall. You don’t recruit 3 x leaders on all lines if we are content with who captains and lead the club.

He isn’t better than happy meal or Jy? Okay?.. Almost (should have been in my eyes) AA Ruck, he doesn’t smile joke or pat everyone on the head, the look in his eyes of steely determination, his aggressive attack on the man and the ball would inspire young blokes. He doesnt throw cheap shots to oppo bread baskets and run away when the heat is on. He gets in, gets his hands dirty. He is also a decent speaker, a better speaker than both Luke and Jy. He wouldn’t be waving alcohol under harrys nose either.

To be honest, the more im thinking about it. He would be a tremendous Captain of the North Melbourne FC.

I don’t like the co-captains thing and the two we’ve had have shown nothing of leading a team when they desperately needed it. Also their footy has gone backwards.
Sheez should be the man but it’s to much pressure at his tender age - I’d probably then stick with the co-captaincy with X and sheez for a couple of year then sheez by himself.
