Do tell, who should we have taken at 11 that year?
A lot of that draft are yet to make their mark but Heath Chapman and Errol Gulden are standouts IMO

Was a big reach by us at 11. Twomey who is fairly accurate had him at pick 24 and said 'Pedlar has come into first-round contention as a surprise given some injury issues have seen him miss significant periods'

Along with all our other first round busts and likely busts, let's hope we don't have to add Pedlar at 11 to that sad list.

He might have had him going at Pick 24 but all the talk in the last week we had big interest in him as well as the GWS Giants. I'm sure Volbeat can back this up...we were always taking him if he was available. Volbeat alerted this board to our big interest weeks before the media cottoned on and it's not the 1st time he's been on the mark with club mail.

If you have a top 3 draft pick and there is an A+ top 3 worthy mid, then clearly you grab him. But where that doesn't happen, you need to find your A+ mid by selecting a number of boom or bust options and having one of them come on.

Pedlar could be a bust, but could also be a gun. He was worth the risk at that point in the draft.

Yeah we were taking Pedlar no matter what. In fact we were a little concerned others would try to get to him first.

Or you take no risks at all, and take Caleb Serong and Heath Chapman in 2 consecutive drafts instead of Fischer McAsey and Luke Pedlar, and end up with 2 future AA guns instead of one steaming pile of trash and one huge question mark who could barely get on the park as an underager, and can still barely get on the park now.

Plenty of teams missed Serong and i don't think he was regarded as that stand out mid at the time (on par with or behind Dylan Stephens, who hasn't shown much to date).

So not so much "no risk" but yes that would have gone a long way to solving our A+ mid issue.

He showed some really promising signs that quarter. Big preseason and he will be absolutely in the AFL side next year

Yup. SANFL finals and preseason are very important for Pedlar, as he could genuine force his way into the side from it.

I don’t usually get the chance to watch SANFL but you can certainly see in this game why he was picked at 11. If we can get him fit I see no reason he can’t be a very damaging midfielder at AFL level.
He has that point of difference that A grade midfielders have at AFL level.

His is the explosiveness at the contest and away from it.

Only 20 years old still.

So obviously he played and played well today.

Is his shoulder his only major injury? Love to know how realistic a proposition he s for us long term. Is a gun in and under, but also has explosive speed and kicks goals. Could be anything if his body would just stay strong.

Always had the talent, just the fitness that has been lacking. Seems to be running out games better and played most of the season, so the fitness must be improving. The goals on the run from inside the centre square are just absolute class, very few midfielders can go at that pace and also pull off the kick.
