Re: Madden 09 - Discussion Thread

anyone else having major trouble with the hester punt return?? (madden moment)

i haven't made it past the 50 yard line pretty much.

Re: Madden 09 - Discussion Thread

hey dart - i did it bout 19th try lol. A good way is to just run one way, then back, then turn the corner and put on the burnes (basically a BIG uTurn - u may have to go as far back as ur endzone lol)

Hey guys, in head coach i ****ing created the wildcat formation and it works perfectly in madden! :thumbsu:

Re: Madden 09 - Discussion Thread

nah that one's going ok.

i had another that was a HB drafted by the patriots

. .try running out of a shotgun every play. was a nightmare.

I dont mind that, especially after being drafted by the Colts, and most Run plays get changed by Peyton Manning into a shotgun pass, with the HB blockling. No fun at all.

Not bad if the team is up and trying to burn the clock.

Re: Madden 09 - Discussion Thread

NCAA is more enjoyable but it is much more work to do, with Madden, I don't exactly enjoy some aspects of franchise mode. It's taking a few steps back but hopefully takes a giant leap forward next season.

I am sick of this innovation to change the game controls each year (or a confusing add on) and then just do a tutorial for a few of the controls. It would be really nice for there to be a decent tutorial on every aspect of Madden. Love the online mode, quite easy to get a comparable opponent (Till you start winning too much and go up against someone way out of your league).

Re: Madden 09 - Discussion Thread

The game still cheats too much. I jumped back on after Dallas lost to Philli. Thought i'd get some revenge on Madden. Was up 20 - 7 in the last, they managed to break 6 tackles and run 70 yards for a TD. My guys drop everything, then they go on a drive catching shit one handed in the piss down rain on third and long and manage to win it with 10 seconds to go. BULLSHIT!

It's still enjoyable though.

What difficulty. Im just about at the level to jump up to all madden.

My passing game is too sporatic, but my defence just dominates.

I had a game where I had 7 int up to 3 qtr time and was only down 14-10.

Next game, I have a perfect QB rating. (7int at SD, perfection vs IND, both as Kevin O'Connell (NE #3QB))

I find the passing game to be very easy. Either slant routes or have your WR's go on crossing routes 10 yards down and you cant go wrong.
Play action a dumping it off to the RB is always a good option as well if you have a good back.

On the running game its unbelievable the different a good O-Line makes in the game. I played my first two seasons with the Cardinals O-Line and Edge/Hightower running and was lucky to run for 30-40 yards per game.
I did some trading before my 3rd season and acquired Peterson and Matt Birk. I just run behind Birk everytime and now after 7 games i have rushed for over 800 yards.

My defense is my problem, they cant run against me because i blitz my LB's on just about every play. I had Bush and LT both with -5 yards 2 games in a row.
But i still cant get to the QB and i cant stop the passing game. This may be because i blitz so much that the TE's get free so often but its bloody annoying.

Re: Madden 09 - Discussion Thread

Never played a Madden game before, and still pretty clueless about NFL, but I downloaded the MAdden 09 demo for my ps3, and have found it impossible!

I just can't gain the required yards in the short amount of time it gives you. I've tried long passes, shotgun passes, rushes, inside and outside handoffs, etc...

what am i doing wrong? :p

Re: Madden 09 - Discussion Thread

It's just newbie blues. Play that madden 101 thing that's all holographic, keep practicising that. In madden you have to really USE those thumbsticks to move around instead of gentle easy use of them. Just takes time to adapt to the speed of Madden and having to make quick decisive decisions with playcalling and any defensive shifts you might do as well.

I find the passing game to be very easy. Either slant routes or have your WR's go on crossing routes 10 yards down and you cant go wrong. I throw too many interception to LBs with those passes my best are Corner routes with the WR in the slot or TE to the open side when MOM. or Post routes to the outside WR if its a CB blitz.
Play action a dumping it off to the RB is always a good option as well if you have a good back. Play action to the right with right handers or left with lefties, to a TE on block and release

I dont run often, I for some reason end up playing alot of passes and get people open, but I run well when I do. I just played then 600 yards passing with about 50 yards running from about 15 runs. (over 3 yards per carry) but so many blitzes to stop Kevin O'Connell:p

My defense is my problem, they cant run against me because i blitz my LB's on just about every play. I had Bush and LT both with -5 yards 2 games in a row. MY run D is brilliant, I used to dominate on 4-3 but have moved over to a 3-4 to attempt to get more TOs. I just held LT to 3 yards and I rarely blitzed
But i still cant get to the QB and i cant stop the passing game. This may be because i blitz so much that the TE's get free so often but its bloody annoying. MY Pass D is the tough one. I struggle most of the time, but go very well in my own defensive half. I get picked apart alot for 5 yard passes and then 2-5 yards YAC. I need to play alot of 3-4 cover 2s. And then I go very well, but than the run game opens up, need to be carful on defensive play calling

Mine is is Bold
But what difficulty do you play in. Im in all-pro.

Re: Madden 09 - Discussion Thread

09 is definitely a big improvement over 07, I never played 08 so I don't know about that. I really wish they'd release NCAA for the PAL 360 though :(

Re: Madden 09 - Discussion Thread

Pretty ironic that they took out the wildcat formation the year when it actually got used a bit more in the NFL. Hopefully they'll include it in Madden '10.

I hope they bring back coach mode as well. I used to enjoy using that at times when I couldn't be arsed actually playing the game myself.

BrownDog - what's the wii version like? I always thought it would just be a bit difficult seeing as there are so many buttons utilised in Madden games and the wii has only like 3 buttons.

Read some reviews, most of them praise the wii controls. 3 buttons? WTF.

I have both the 360 and Wii versions. I'd love to combine the Wii controls with the 360 graphics.

Re: Madden 09 - Discussion Thread

^^^
I'm not all that familiar with the wii dude, the only time I've ever played it was a party when I was wasted and I coulda sworn there were only a couple of buttons.

I just thought that Madden wouldn't really be a game that translated all that well to the wii. I'll go check out some of the reviews and see what the "experts" have to say!

Re: Madden 09 - Discussion Thread

Hired it, and enjoy it mostly.

However...

I find this game very very hard. I'm sure a lot of it is my newbie-NFL-learning curve, but it seems that on defense, I just cannot do anything to stop the opposing team gaining yards and completing passes.

Any tips? :)

Re: Madden 09 - Discussion Thread

Take it slow, play on the the lowest noob level. Dont make adjustments at the LOS yet. The controls are very complex. Just try to get a feel for the game, the tactics, call plays in the "huddle" (where you flip thru the plays).

Wii version is probably easier and more fun to play, than Xbox or PS3. Personally I play All-Pro football on PS3, instead of Madden.

Re: Madden 09 - Discussion Thread

Also, play as the DLman, not the MLB or CB etc. Just stick to that and dont cycle thru control. Just stick with that player and let the CPU make tackles etc. When you get better then you will learn to switch controls after the snap at the right time and make tackles, sacks, and INTs.
