Has Mick Malthouse outstayed his welcome at Collingwood? Going into the 2010 season he is the longest serving coach without a premiership in the league. Has he under acheived with the resources that he apparently has at his dispoasal?

Also with Buckley set to take over what sort of emotions are running through the minds of some of the players he played with? Its no secret his attitude to some of these players was less than favourable. Surely these blokes know the writings on the wall for them at seasons end. Buckley will be keen to stamp his own game plan and rules and players like Davis Didak Fraser Medhurst may find themselves out the door. Time will tell but interesting times ahead as he takes the reins.

why in the world would we get rid of any of those players?

-i think you'll find MM is contracted till 2011.. so the in the unlikely event davis, didak, fraser and medhurst leave it will be MMs choice... stupid call anyway, why would we give 2 of top 6 best players the ass when we are looking at premierships over the course of the next 1-5 years?..

-as for buckleys favourable or unfavourable attitude towards any of these players have you heard this from buckleys mouth or are you speculating or doyou have a credible source?

ive also heard thompson is going to west sydney as soon as he leaves the cattery in 2011..

Instead of turning it around and pointing a finger at others as you always do have a serious look at what is happening at your club. Malthouse has failed to deliver a flag and has been given more than ample time and resourses to do so. As for the named players which of them has stood up when it counted?? Buckley will be all over players with less work rate than he had and all of the above fit that catergory.

Great thread.

Do you have a blog I can subscribe to?

Why because what is written is true and you have problems dealing with it? When you take off your rose colured glasses even a non football person like yourself can see Collingwood has underacheived and are facing a difficult transition stage.

Yes we realise he hasn't won us a flag yet, thats why his senior coaching tenure expires in 2 years. Judge him after that

I'd argue it's less difficult to adjust to a new coach when
a) you know it's coming and
b) he's already an assistant at the club
c) he's by far the greatest coach in waiting in the league and the best/smartest/diligent midfielder of the last 50 years

Mick is a great coach he has done so well they haven't bottomed out and received high draft picks. I think if GWS turned to him at the end of 2011 and offered him the top job he'll take it (don't think Sheedy will coach anymore than one season). There isn't too many players on the Pies list I think are elite but they are well coached team all due to Mick, he may end up leaving but he would not of failed fault lies else were in my eyes. Plus if he had an extra million in his salary cap like Brisbane for 2002 and 2003 he may have two cups and we would not be having this conversation.

Isn't our list always "overrated" or "terrible"? If so, how has Malhouse had the resources player-wise? During Malthouse's time at the Pies, we've never been a genuine Premiership threat on paper. Even '02/'03 was great coaching rather than great players. He's done the best he could with the players available IMO.

Yep, you're right.

We've been the best side in the AFL for the last 3 years and have simply underachieved.

Genius.

??

Since Mick has been there they have had finishes of 15th, 15th, & 13th.

There his players and after so long in the job the list is all his. This hes done well with that list line is crap. He recruited what you see out there. Hes had a minimum of 12 top 15 picks in his time at Collingwood. So hes hardly been disadvantaged.

You must have run out of belly buttons to examine on the Cats board NOCHANCE, why else would you satrt this dumb arsed thread?
You obviously have no idea how well the Malthouse/Buckley transition deal was accepted down at Pieland, by Members, Player and supporters.

We don't expect you to be overjoyed but then we don't really give a rats arse either. Couldn't you have expressed you Pie hate in one of the other vehicles for it?

Dimwit.

2000 was still Tony Shaws mess, but your right 2004 and 2005 was a bit of a bottom out, I appoligise. Still think he's a great coach Buckley has a long way to go before he can be mentioned in the same breath as Mick as a coach.

Oh yes clown the media bus that is Collingwood. Let me guess Ed said that they were all happy at Collingwood so it must be true. Or was it the clowns you sit with every week that have never played a game that told you. Your the sort of Jackass that beleives anything positive about your team but refuses to beleive a negative. Face facts your club under Malthouse has underacheived. Now Buckley is the man to take over a group full of blokes hes abused and belittled during his playing days and bagged during his media days.Ha ha good luck with that.

Thank heavens little school goes back next week.

You know why? Perhaps because Buckley wants to rid himself of (with all due respect) front-runners and players of questionable endeavour and conviction. Fraser would be top of my list, and Medhurst (even Davis too) wouldn't be far from it in the lead-up to 2011.

I think the OP has a decent point, if somewhat ill-written. If Buckley were to build a side in his image, great things would await the club - he would therefore prefer players who are proven contenders on the big stage, capable of helping carry a playing group and, able to lift the spirits of those around them.

The three above, in my opinion, can let their team down at truly crucial times.

As a more general note, whatever players Buckley favours would surely be privy to more game time whilst he is waiting in the wings. Meaning Mick's influence may well wain starting from this season. Poor results this season (which I highly doubt) could see Mick and Bucks switch roles next year? Perhaps?

I'm a Member. I know many other Members and supporters personally and also correspond with a large number of both Members and supporters via the web.

The vast majority are happy with coaching situation.

As I said, I don't give rats what you think. Why would you even bother your head about it but to conjure dimwitted troll?

Call me whatever you like. Water off a duck back. I know what I think and have no need for reinforcement from anyone on an internet forum. I am fully aware of the type of poster you are from the other drivel you profess to believe.
