If Carlton gives up pick 5 you might as well pack up, and Bolton is stuffed. You get most of the elite game changer talent with top 5 picks, Marchbank is injury prone, undersized and shown only moderate talent. Surely Carlton don't make same huge mistake they made couple of years ago with Jaksch

Don't agree with Bolton being stuffed but do agree with you on learning from past mistakes.
Marchbank has big potential with no runs on the board. Pick 5 isn't going anywhere unless we are getting something proven back.. and that is not a bunch of stake knives.

Heard the same line time after time from Prez down to football manager. Surely if we give up pick 5 for more GWS seconds players this is a huge backflip. I will be for one bitterly disappointed as it shows we can not follow through on our own words. What hope do we have of ever getting off the bottom. Give Bolton a go. SOS earn your money, A blind list manager could have put the GWS team together with all the draft concessions that you had. Prove yourself the hard way.

There's no way we trade out of the 1st round without getting a 1st rounder back. Obviously pick 7 is a bit rich, but getting back pick 15 isn't out of the question.
Of course it's asking too much. It's going to have to be a bloody good deal to get us to give up pick 5 and not have a 1st rounder. Points-wise, #5 for Marchbank and #15 would value him at about pick 24-25. If that's the case, why would we want to use #5 when #23 should get it done?
History shows that unless a player is considered elite (Judd, GAJ, Danger, Treloar, etc.), they tend to drop in value. A lot of players that were drafted in the pick #4-12 range have gone on to be traded for picks from around #14-30, or equivalent value. Some of them were contracted and had exposed form.
Marchbank is uncontracted, injured and doesn't really have any exposed form.
GWS is also in a unique (to them, same as last year though) position of having to dump cap and list space to fit in their academy players. They have shown that they are willing to throw in extra players that aren't getting games or will be replaced in the draft anyway.

All that taken into account, it's not unreasonable to think we could get pick #15 and another player or two if we have to give up pick #5. GWS need to entice us into using it, otherwise #23 gets it done every day of the week.
