Mark Robinson: All not well at Collingwood

Robbo is full of sh!te

and to pot Beams is a joke, he is having a phenomenal year and has been extremely damaging, particularly as a mid who gets forward and kicks goals every week.

He also said on the radio on sat. morning, "I don't think Mick Malhouse is a much of a bloke, that's just my opinion, but as a bloke he's a pretty ordinary person"

This guy is clown city.

How does he keep his Job?

Switching play in defense doesn't work for us anymore, usually by the time we've moved it to the other side the opposition has more numbers than us. Why is this? Are we not as fit as we once were. I put it down to Sidebottom and Pendlebury being unable to run like they once were.

Dermott was speaking rubbish last night about Beams' predictability. I was listening to that and actually wondered if he knew what he was talking about. He is a completely different type of player to Jetta. If you asked me, I would rather take the player that doesn't go missing for large amounts of games.

It's easy to say "something is not right" when we have had a couple of poor weeks. I don't pay much attention to what Robbo says anyway. In 2007 he tipped us to win the wooden spoon amd we made the prelim.

Yeah, him and King-gy had apparently had the same apparition seperately. It was the biggest load of voodoo garbage I've heard in a while. Basically stating the ball was ALWAYS fed out to Beams who was ALWAYS the outside runner and ALWAYS his kicks were predictible roosts to nowhere.

Such a load of cobblers. Dermott loves to think he's nutted out THE essential issue for a team every week. He's become a caricature of himself and seems to now believe all the hot-air Robbo pumps up his arse.

Robbo says "Cheers" to this thread!

Simple way around that, turn up to the ground and watch it live.

I hate Kingy and I hate Robbo, I usually like Derm but the Beams comments were way off pace. If we had've won our last 6 games they'd be saying how good it is that Beams was receiving so many because it means the team trusts his disposal. You can twist every statistic around to suit your argument. As the great NFL coach Bill Belichick says "stats are for losers, the only statistic that matters is wins and losses".

As much as I dislike Robbo he's just stating the obvious i.e. that we've lost some agression and polish.

That doesn't make him any less of an orangutan...

The writings about Beams are laughable.

Haven't heard or read any of these comments, but will purely respond to what has been said in this thread.

I always thought predictability was a good thing. Forwards know where to lead, and team-mates know how to read him. Beams hits his targets and takes his first option, making him a very efficient ball user. He is also very accurate in front of goal and kicks more than a goal a game.

He is not the break the lines type of player....nor is he an elite field kick in the Nathan Buckley mould in the sens that he can pearce a 50 metre pass onto someones chest....but he rarely makes mistakes and doesn't play beyond his means. I'd say kicking is a real strength of his game and he can kick it a long distance. But he isn't overly damaging around the field with his disposal...which is not really his role in the team. He is a vital link player.

He is an in and under who can play outside as well. He likes to feed it off to the better ball users in Pendlebury...or guys who have the pace like Thomas or Swan. He is a no frills type midfielder.

However, he is more damaging than your typical in and under because he is kicking so many goals.

In regards to predictability...I think it is Beams' biggest asset at the moment. He gives us a reliable result and he is punishing in front of goal. He wins hard ball, feeds it off and runs all day.

That's funny because I don't think he's much of a bloke, nor a journo.

Have either of you met Mick Malthouse to have a valid counter opinion? I guarantee you Robbo would have. GibboPAL, have you met Robbo to form an opinion on him as a bloke?

I certainly don't think Robbo is the best journo going around, but I think some of the calls in this thread are overreacting a tad... Just because someone writes something about Collingwood that isn't overflowing with praise, doesn't mean they are a) terrible at their job, b) terrible people, or c) hate / have a vendetta against our club because of any specific game that happened 25 years ago...

I also disagree with his reported comments about Beams (although I haven't heard / seen them myself), but just because we have a difference of opinion doesn't mean Robbo is a shocking bloke who is terrible at his job...

Robbo thinks he knows it all.

Well here it is matey,We didn"t play Dawes cos Buckley is setting up plan B.the Paine has arrived for the finals so expect Dawes to come staright in to play the ruck role and help out Jolly paine to saty to help cloke with Jolly and Dawes driftinmg forward.

What robbo didn't tell us is that Collingwood is the only side taht hasn't playedv it's best football yet, everyone else has.

Dermie on sen the other day said that,he has noticed that the Hawks have tired towrds each game over the past 2 weeks .

Yeah Yeah Gurerra is out,Gilham,Hodge,Gibson and Gunston under injury clouds.........sO IF WE LOSE WE LOSE.

Geelong will most likely face the winner of this friday nights game after they win their elimination and second semi's.

If the Pies lose we play one extra game and are likely to meet say a Sydney,OR Adelaide after defeating say a West Coast or North here in Melb.If we get that far we travel to either Sydney or Adelaide for a prelim.

A question for Robbo;

How are those Bombers of yours going?

You know the club, the one that was supposed to take all before it this year, the one that at one stage you said would finish top four.

Oh, and while we are at it, how are Carlton going Robbo? You know, cmon, the team you picked to win the flag?

Robbo = irrelevant, he's good for a laugh, he's like the class clown really, you don't take anything he says seriously.

You've just reminded me that Dwayne Russell guaranteed that Collingwood will not make the top 4

And man, talk about finding fault. Beams is too predictable? **** me dead! The football media has tall poppy syndrome Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!

I have continued to think about this; this must have been over simplified.

I am sure he said "if there is one criticism you could level at Beams, it is that he may be a little predictable going forward"

mark robinson is the kind of bloke that you hear in the pub talking about footy. A journalist should be able to analyse and prove their statements. Robbo just throws up a few ideas for discussion. Mark Robinson thinks all is not well. My sister's cousin's dog yelped after midnight last night. Two interesting occurrences and neither of them will have any impact on whether the Pies will win this week.

And Beams? well he does tend to kick it into the 50 metre arc a lot. Maybe he needs to go backwards a few more times

Seriously - people on here can't have an opinion on public people in public events unless they've met them?

Your post didn't quote me but I spoke poorly of Robbo as well and it had nothing to do with this particular article or anything specifically Collingwood. Having seen him, read him, and listened to him many times over the years, I formed my opinion.

And yeah, for what it's worth, I've spoken with Robbo and I've spoken with Mick several times.

Robbo has new found football journo ' celebrity ' status on the back of lots of exposure on Fox ( too much perhaps ). He throws out a few controversial opinions now and again, treat him as entertainment value, a general footy chat with a few blokes you know. For certain, don't get too concerned with too much that he says.

If you treat most of what he says as above, he is mildly entertaining and listenable, I think he and GW contrast quite well. I have no idea if Robbo is a good bloke or not, strikes me as a bloke who would that would enjoy a general chat about sport of most kinds.

Re Dermott's comments, i think the point he is trying to make is that Beams is a very consistently good, a really solid high grade footballer without a huge dollop of X factor. Your 22 is a mix of alot of things, in an ideal world the ratio would be 8 Beams to 2 Jetta's.
