I think a lack of experience on the big stage hurt Avoca. The Bulldogs looked very unsure of themselves and didn't play to their potential. Coghlan had a red hot go but couldn't do it all by himself in the forward 50. Tony was sensational too. He would have touched it near 40 times.

At the start of the year nobody picked Avoca to be in the big game or probably even the finals. So a successful effort by the club.

Thanks thoroughbred, the club was pretty happy with its efforts but will need to work hard over the summer to pick up a couple of experienced players to give the young kids a hand. Will keep you posted of developments as time progressess.

It is interesting to hear that J-Mac has been linked to Talbot recently.
Any comment on that one King/Sherman.

They say you have to lose one to win one. It's not always true but Avoca should be able to use this as motivation for next year. Has Tony signed? Because he came in around Feb this year if memory serves me correctly. Give him an off season to recruit some players and maybe start team training earlier and Avoca could be a major force next season. It would have been hard for him to recruit in Feb as most good players are signed with clubs.

There are 3 MCDFL teams that want him from the talk I got. Royal Park is old news and that's been going on for a month or so, Talbot was something I got wind of last week and Dunolly is also thrown in there.

I've heard the Dunolly option is very alive and gaining momentum. Expect to see 15 new players signed with Dunolly before October if J-Mac signs. 5 big names in other leagues.

Heard about this to at the mdfl granny on the weekend from a pretty realiable source. If it all turns out the players going there all seem to be quality players and people to have around a club and it could be the break dunolly need to turn the club into a success. I've heard things are starting to turn around out there with 3 out of 6 teams in the finals and some real good young talent! Good luck to them i supose, abit of success would be great for the familys who have been through it all out there like the shoddes, edwards and taylors.:thumbsu:

Fact: A number of Natte players are in talks with other clubs already. Brent Mortlock has had a chat with Rovers. Full Forward Brad Ross is also being chased by Rovers.

Rumour: Scott Sellars is going back to Rovers next year. Was seen at the MCDFL final and heard a number of times saying that Rovers is on the cards for 2008.

2 of them are netball though. The seniors and reserves footy are hopelessly off the standard. It would be good to see Dunolly improve as the comp was fairly even this year despite Dunolly and Trentham. Should those 2 teams improve, teams won't get those easy weeks they've grown accustomed to.

If my source is correct there could be 2 Lexton Plains Century goal kickers lining up for Dunolly next year.

Common Knowledge that J-Mac is more than likely on the move.... Clubs would be silly not to speak to him.

Sounds like you have some pretty close sources there. It will be interesting to see if it all eventuates. I suppose only time will tell.

Rumour: Tony Bellenger and Julian Field are in Maryborough's cross hairs for season 2008. Each for the coaching role.

Fact: Former North Ballarat player and former coach of Lexton and East Point, Shane Fisher has been contacted about coaching Maryborough next year.

ear to ground u r on fire...sounds like u live on footy talk...cant believe silly season has kicked off 2 days after the official season ended...look forward to whatever wacky rumours hit this forum in the next 6 months.

I can say the rumour is pretty right. I am led to believe that former Avoca star Davey Edwards headed up a deputation for Maryborough that spoke to Julian Field (and why wouldn't you). I would say that Julian will play for either Redan or Avoca next season. Avoca will catch up with him shortly. The little champion was BOG in Redan's first finals win over Sunbury and named third best for Redan in ther premiership on Saturday. I see former North Ballarat star in Lubeek has been appointed coach of Redan for 2008 so don't know what effect this will have on Julian's thoughts for next season.
Did also hear that Maryborough had discussed Tony Bellenger as a possible coach. Fortunately for Avoca Tony has agreed to stay with the club for at least the next two years.
I also have a soft spot for Dunolly and would be pleased to see them become a competitive outfit for next season.

Good to see Butchy Kennedy won dunolly's senior BnF from Joey Thompson last sunday. Great turn out and was a productive afternoon. Just a couple of names being wispered around the club has got it into a buzz. Both Hutchins were present.

Rumour: Hutchins and J-mac.

Fact: James has been contacted by 4 clubs in the MCDFL and hasnt decided where to play his footy.

The word up north is that Hutchins is contemplating a move back to Murrabit.

Wouldn't think he will play MCDFL. Will be BFL/CHFL player or coach.
So Tony has signed with Avoca for 2 more years? Avoca would be happy with that. Does he work in the area?

I never said J-mac would be playing MCDFL. Very much still undecided. Cant see him going CHFL tho, it will either be BFL or MCDFL.

Tony works for the Loddon Shire as a the ranger I believe, He lives 33 minutes travelling time from his front door to the Avoca ground.

Jason seems keen to come back if J-Mac and crew get onboard. However the feeling i got is that Shane is still playing too well to come back and is likely to go back up north. He is a classy player and would be a very handy addition to any team. Time will tell and you never know

If the club miss on this opportunity they will be in big trouble in the footballing department side of things, so its make or break really somethings gotta be done.

Dunolly would be a very risky proposition for a highly rated coach IMO. They'd wanna be very sure they can bring the cattle or their reputation would take a battering. They would need to bring at least 10+ players u would think to become a competitive side.

Heard off a reliable source tonight that Lachie Brown from Castlemaine will be taking on the coaching job at Maldon next year. Obviously is a very handy player. Word has been going around all year that they will have a big crack next year and this signing could be just the start.

THere are always rumours of Rovers chasing many big names in the offseason but they never seem to land anyone. I know for a fact that a few Rovers boys (Seniors & Reserves) are considering a move because of this.

I heard he was going to be assistant coach. He won't come alone either. Brown will bring players. There is talk of the possibility of O'Brien playing at Maldon next year.

Yeah you could be right regarding the ass. coach. Castlemaine sound like they will be hurting next yr.

Hopefully all the teams keep their players and the names such as Julian Field, Lachy Brown and J-Mac come in. Megs would also have to be a chance for either Brook or Avoca next season. It will only be a good thing for the league. The rumour of the Hutchins boys going back to Dunolly could be a huge signing for the club.

The rumours around Ballarat are still very strong that Robbie Waters and J-Mac have put in a joint application to East Point. Most people who know the Carngham v Natte rivalry would see this as insanity but I think they would work well together and bring a few good players to Point.

I find it very disappointing for those clubs and comittees that have worked very hard over the years to recruit good players / coaches only to see them jump of the bandwagon and move to somewhere else to get that elusive premiership. I understand that nothing stay's the same and people move on for various reasons, but the best premierships to win are those where it has taken a couple of years to build and achieve. I hope all clubs in the MCDFL are able to maintain as many of their list as possible and top up with some key players where needed. When clubs lose 10-15 players in one season it makes it very hard to rebuild again, it also shows that those players have'nt come to the clubs with the right intentions.
