My question is why is he playing on the ball? If he's in the team as a defensive forward and he's not playing well enough in that position, shouldn't he go down to the WAFL and work on improving playing that position? If not we should be giving Matty a lot more time in the midfield as that seems to be where he excels. Similarly we shouldn't be as surprised Sylvia didn't perform in his forward line role, as he was he playing a fair portion of the game in the middle.

It's pretty unlikely that he comes back in the side as a forward.

I'm not sure that it's that he isn't playing well enough as a defensive forward. It's more that with Walters back and Taberner holding his spot, there's no room for him there. The coaching staff have made an effort to get faster ball movement in to the forward line and rely less on just keeping the ball inside forward 50 with pressure like last year.

I think someone posted some WAFL numbers before that showed he's been playing inside mid for Peel when he's been there. If he were to come in I'd say it could only be to replace one of our inside mids. The setups pretty strong in there at the moment though so who do you take out?

I don't understand your Sylvia question sorry.

MDB should be in team for his decorative value alone - handsomest player in the AFL !! Seriously Matt should go to Melbourne where he'll be appreciated and actually get a game each week! Disgraceful he was left out of Sydney game - what more does the guy have to do??

Personally think he should be automatic pick in finals we dont need Ballas,Walters,Crozier and Pearce in the same side takes away our size and strength advantage play to your strengths big strong midfielders as we have seen some of the smaller guys are ineffective in finals.

Hmm - not sure why he'd commit to a club that won't pick him or has him on tenterhooks most of the time. Is this "2 year contract extension" from 2012??
Comment From Karl Langdon
Deboer has just signed a 2 year contract extension. Breaking News.

De Boer should replace Crowley as our #1 tagger for season 2015 I think. Crowley's inability to get the ball in the centre square is a liability for us now. We have the best midfield in the AFL yet we barely break even in the centre clearances because we only have room for 2 of them with Crowley in there. De Boer at least is a good contested ball winner.

Agreed. Plus Crowley is getting on a bit, so it'd be nice to develop someone as hard and talented as MDB into the next big tagger.

Crowley kept Boak to 4 possessions in the first half. deboer had one clearance and handed the ball back, made wrong decisions going forward and sprayed a shot on goal. 10 year deal.

Yeah, Crowley is a great tagger. But he's a terrible midfielder. At some point you have to ask if it's worth the tradeoff.
