The longer we have Nicks as coach, the more I realise he is just another version of Hinkley. He is great at building relationships with the players, but no good at actually coaching or making the tough decisions when players need to be dropped.
Nah, he's more Brendan Bolton or David Teague than Hinkley.

Why don't we offer the head coaching gig to Josh Carr? Annoy Port plus get a good coach. Win-win.

“Paint by numbers” is the perfect terminology for the selection policy.

Phil Walsh was about creating master pieces.

This dickhead paints by numbers. Like for like for like for like.
I remember Walsh being very clear at one point with a point blank "If the guys in the AFL team don't get it done then I'll go find some in the SANFL squad to take their place". Wasn't a threat or an empty promise, he just had his set expectations and it didn't matter who you were, if you didn't perform he'd find someone who did.

Same with Brandon Ellis talking about Hardwick. He doesn't care if you're young or old, he'll pick you for a role and your spot it determined on how well you do. It feels like we walk into team selection with every bloke over the age of 25 already pencilled in cause we pick experience first over form.

Hair pulling presser from Nick's today.

I'd really like to know why the journos never ask the most pressing questions..

-ie: what's with the selection yo-yo the club has in place
-why are you so risk averse to playing youth
-how many losses before you won't "back the boys in" any longer
-speed of ball movement really seems to be in at the moment...thoughts?
  • do you put any value on a marking. ruckman
  • did we perhaps over inflate the W/L record from last year & all the excessive talk of finals
  • 'little tweaks' seems to be on your cue-card but fans & commentators see huge gaps all over the ground
You famously opted against a senior coaching assistant when you started the job, 5 years in... do you need help?

I wonder if you reached out on twitter someone might run with it?
I know Rucci would, I'm just not sure if he still has accreditation!

Do people still watch these pressers?

I'm not watching another one until the one where we announce sackings.

I liken them to Trump videos now

Gives me something to laugh at clowns

Why the hell would you say that publicly? So when we lose despite this extra break, what’s he going to say then?

“We were rested, our systems and coaching was great, the players are just out of form and didn’t execute and we faced a good team with great players and they are hard to stop so we didn’t try”

Actually just typing that I want to cry not laugh.

Joe Biden has entered the chat room.

' yeah theres guys ready to step up and play - its just them being onboard and have that connection and cohesion we're after so they can play their role''

We should really get together with these guys during the week and get them do some drills or something with the seniors. Sort of like "train" them or something. Maybe we could get the whole group involved.

Yeah, I mainly want Roo gone because I don't think it is healthy to have a Riverland gronk on any board, anywhere. That said the blue rinse set just voted in a guy whose sum total of expertise is being on bumkin local television for decades, so the bar is low.

Best case they are like most volunteers, not actually doing much at all.

Volunteer work, wouldn't do it if you paid me.

This is the crux of the issue, spot on.

Despite all the spin, its abundantly clear the game plans changed and changed for the disastrous worse.

Rather than pivoting and accepting its not gelling with the players, the stubborn arrogance kicks in and we keep persisting with a failed experiment.

The Nicks supporters can squeal all they want, but this is solely his responsibility (Game plan) and he has utterly failed.
There are Nicks supporters????

I just listened to his press conference today and honestly Nicks is absolutely clueless

Some takeaways....

He thinks that we're right on the mark, just some small errors being the reason why we've lost the games we have.

Believes the Melbourne game was a "pass" and a positive step forward. Claimed that we were in the game and it was just a few errors with the execution that was the difference

Doesn't think there's too many issues player wise and no need for wholesale changes, argued that we've come up against "tough teams" and believes if we get the system right the results will take care of itself.

Discussed about bringing Rory back, but no timeline for it.

Talked about bringing in Hamill for Parnell (a typical Nicks paint by the numbers selection).
hmmm a pass for a loss.... setting the bar nice and high there. elite standards
seriously this guy is a complete hack. cant wait to see what bullshit excuses he's rolling out in the coming weeks as the losses build.
every single person in the industry, including a majority of his club's own fans, have been pointing out serious structural, selection and game plan problems, but noooo, we're close and it's only tweaks. never seen someone more out of their depth.

Oh dear 🤦‍♂️ Comes across as an affable, genuine person and I am sure he has some decent football knowledge, but this is really disturbing. Setting himself up to lose his job sooner rather than later.
It does make me wonder if the undeserved arrogance of proclaiming every issue to be caused by player execution starts to turn the players against the coaching group a bit.

In fact as the losses pile up they've talked up how well the coaches are setting the team up, it's just those pesky players that are the issue (while making as little changes to the best 22 as possible).

If Nicks "lose the players" during 2024, its also our best chance of getting him replaced.

Eventually a scapegoat will be needed for this start in 2024.

I would rather the Club come under heavy scrutiny for sacking a coach that was recently reappointed for another two years, then for Nicks to stay at the Club for another two seasons. The damage he has done to the playing group if he stays may not be fullly resolved till the 2030s.

Think about that for a moment. 2030s......

Yes I absolutely agree. Losing isn’t fun, and it would be quite disheartening as a player to have the blame placed solely on you as the reason for the bad start. I would really hope, that internally, the communication would be that the coaches are taking some responsibility, but it doesn’t appear from the outside to be the case.

The younger players toiling away in the reserves will rightly absolve themselves of any blame, I mean if they can’t even get a look in to the main team, then not their problem 🤷‍♂️ Division and disharmony could result everywhere.

A telling few weeks coming up.

2030s...... Give it a rest.

2030s...... Give it a rest.
Really, Please Give it a rest.

When do you believe we will be a genuine premiership chance if Nicks stays till 2026?

We wont make the 8 under Nicks, so even getting that chance to play finals wont happen till the late 2020s, do you even math?

3. To be completely, entirely and unequivocally unaccountable for functions 1 and 2.

Well, usually you would have owners, debt holders, members etc to which the board is accountable for those duties

Which as we all know isn’t there…

There is no balancing force agitating and demanding high performance
