Is Matthew Nicks the right coach for Adelaide?

  • Firmly yes (I love what I'm seeing)

  • Leaning yes

  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

  • Firmly no (he should be sacked)

OR ...the Coaches were gifted a mature list that simply needed a driver

Is Kingsley a great coach ....or, did he inherit a great team, from an average coach ?

The same accusation has been levelled at Scott, after taking over from Bomber Thompson

Nicks has built this team ...he hasn't been gifted anything ....as a new coach, is he learning ...of course, same as a young player
It's how he addresses certain situations, responds to adversity, that I look at

I'm still in the camp, we cannot progress with Laird & Crouch, both in this midfield .....to me, that's our major issue ....it holds back our turnover & transition game

If Chris Scott makes finals this year he will have done so 12 times.

Our entire club has made finals 15 times ever.

But it's just the list he was given back in 2011...

The footy world disagrees with you

They do?
In an era where if there's a sniff of a poor performing Coach ....the media are like Piranhas ....yet, there's zero talk, zero speculation

What about when we were 0-4. Numerous media outlets were sprouting that he was under pressure even though the club stupidly gave him a 2 year extension after losing the first game.

After 0-3 he publicly spoke about the growing pressure.

Since we started 0-4 our record is 4 wins from 7 games - with two of those wins against bottom teams North & West Coast.
There's your barometer

So the media are the ones who identify a good coach. Not winning record, finals, and actually winning games of football?

The media is concerned about clicks and stories - not who is a good coach and who isnt.

Ultimately, it's media pressure that sees the demise of most Coaches

The #1 target this year, has been Bevo

I agree, it's about sensational stories & clicks ....which is why it's a barometer, there's zero talk about Nicks ....and there wasn't even anything early season .....the article was a Club response, not a media driven focus

OK ....give me the reasons for the block of losses from GEEL and GWS .....have their Coaches gone rogue as well

Should we sack those coaches as well ? .....both teams lauded early season

It's way too simplistic, and there's more nuance in footy these days, than you give credit ....plus, all Clubs are a work in progress during a season ....they're not consistent over 24 rounds, as is your expectation
Teams cop injuries, lose form, come up against good opposition, it happens.

Now tell me, in these 2 examples did the coach go rogue bonkers and change the game plan which resulted in their team going from the highest scoring team to the lowest?

In case you’re uncertain about the impact of going rogue bonkers, these are your words when discussing our 0-4 start, these words will keep coming back to bite you in the arse:
No-one can predict when a Coach is going to go rogue bonkers

Yep, absolutely .....there is a difference in criticising a Coach or player on a performance, and extrapolating those POV's to be a summary view of Nicks as a Coach

Would GEEL supporters be bagging Scott ATM .....would BRIS supporters be bagging Fagan ATM .....of course, but does that mean Scott, Fagan, and Kingsley are bad Coaches ?

The comments this year on Nicks, is a blanket, Nick's can't Coach .....I'll look with interest as how people backtrack with caveats on their black & white comments

Every Club is working on aspects of their game ....as the #1 attacking team, it was obvious our profile work-on was def

Also, we have to move from being primarily a stoppage team, into more of a turnover / transition team
Any of these coaches go rogue bonkers?

Scott - 67.8% win percentage and has won a flag.
Fagan - 55.5% win percentage and made the grand final last year.
Kingsley - 59.5% win percentage and made a prelim.

These coaches have earned the right to not be questioned for a small form dip as it is not the norm.

Nicks - 35.1% win percentage and hasn't made the final in 5 seasons.

Who is backtracking on Nicks. I would suggest most have said he is not a good coach. Our 4 wins from 11 matches suggests that he isn't a good coach.
In Wayne’s own words he went rogue bonkers, he also doesn’t agree with Laird and Crouch playing together or the previous on going selection of McHenry, besides all that he’s a good coach apparently.

If we hadn’t just re-signed him there would have been more talk especially at 0-4 when he went rogue bonkers

Geelong was discussed on The First Crack last Sunday.

According to them, the main causal issue at the Cats is a lack of midfield pressure (as well as Stewart being tagged).
Opposition teams are having an easier time generating inside 50s, they're under less pressure so they're generating higher quality entries, the best interceptor can't do anything to stop it and the rest of the defence just can't cope with it.

And Geelong's best two midfielders (Dangerfield and Guthrie) are both injured, so there's no upgrades and limited changes that Scott can actually make.

The Ocean Grove nursing home should be able to find them some 😉

Another example of Nicks being a good coach:

Let’s play straight down the line against Brisbane and watch Payne kill us.

Brodie Smith post game: “review said we should have mixed it up”

Nicks grinning like he’s just discovered electricity “we have a plan for West Coast key defenders”

The plan? Switch. The outcome score goals.

Strike me pink, the blokes a genius.
