Opinion Matthew Nicks: Adelaide's Coach (Part 2) - Full Support of the Board

Is Matthew Nicks the right coach for Adelaide?

  • Firmly yes (I love what I'm seeing)

  • Leaning yes

  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

  • Firmly no (he should be sacked)

Just read on LinkedIn that he stepped away from the AFC about 12 months ago to start his own consultancy where he says his first client was the AFC and helping with the Thebbie deal . No boys club though 🙄

I like that the Swans give a listing of their Executive Management Team

There used to be a page that listed the club's employees but it was either taken down or hidden away a couple of years ago.

They probably don't want people to see how many Adelaide nepobabies they hire to do bullshit jobs.

Tex and Roo on MMM this morning largely blaming injuries for our poor season, but also concede we just need to get better too. Not really anything different from what Kelly, Nicks and Silvers have said in recent days.

Either it's what they've all been told to say by our PR team to try calm the supporter base down, or they genuinely believe we have just been unlucky with injury and that's the only reason we are here.

Rowey said on 5AA this morning that over the weekend he's had plenty of calls from former club staff (coaches and admin) and former players, ranging in opinions from 'how dare you question the club' to 'keep fighting the good fight'.

I had a look at Sturts web page and was surprised to see the Management group listed WITH email addresses from Sue Dewing down

( now Sue is one I would be looking to take over from Silvers)

Already the club ambassadors on here are saying the same thing

Its bullshit of course

First four games had nothing to do with injuries. That’s what derailed the season. How can they not see that?

I just had a look at the Glenelg site.

Same as Sturt, but without emails. All board members and staff listed.

Looking more professional than the AFC

Injuries have impacted a bit of late. But our season was cooked whilst it was only the addition of TT to last year’s Murray.

Embarrassing that they’d actually lower themselves to use injury as an excuse. But they had to excuse the extension somehow.

He said offensive but did he say untrue?

A lot of things are both true and offensive.
Picking for the now when we are 14th is also offensive.

We've still got a few steps to go yet:

(1) Release a new product for purchase to distract the fans check (the ANZAC jumper)

(2) Wheel out the club ambassadors to reassure us everything will be ok and it was the Thilthorpe injury and the umpires that stuffed us

(3) Force Tex to defend Nicks and the club in the media while the rest of them go into hiding

(4) Roo comes out and says something that stirs up the hornets' nest

(5) The club cops an angry reaction from fans and Rowey. Calls for Roo, Reid, Kelly, the board, etc to stand down

(6) Nicks gets sacked.
We've had steps 2 and 5 in recent days, while 3 and 4 are currently happening. Adam Kelly's interview was poorly received so we won't be hearing from him again anytime soon.

They mentioned missing Thilthorpe and Murray then...

The entire club is clearly still in major denial and using the injury excuse. I wish someone would just ask the club their thoughts about what Collingwood have been able to do with injuries after a similarly poor start to the season, they aren't trotting out the excuse.

The longer they deny it, the bigger and uglier the fallout will be.

100% - some short memories in here when people seem to forget we lost the first 4 games with really only TT and Murray injured.

The game plan and coaching stinks.

So you are saying we are close to step 6?!

I read with interest what Bucks, Whateley and co had to say last night. They talked about ticks, question marks and crosses of each of our squad. They all believe not many ticks among them. There is an inference that the problem is more to do with drafting and recruiting by the way they made comments. But they did also question whether the right people in place to develop the players. Given what I read, I believe that there is buckleys chance of getting Buckley to our club. The whole scenario is sad and it appears that there is now a real divide among supporters, reporters and past players. I hope like hell it is not quite that bad inhouse because if it is, we have little chance of getting another win. Just bring in someone to be a dictactor for 6 months to make all of the hard calls. As I stated elsewhere, a number within the club agree the place is a rabble, but have to "tow" the line externally. Let's hope that internally they are being loud (but may be being outnumbered by the "boys club". Was interesting to see the make-up of the Club's Board and their experiences
