  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

What rubbish

His brother was disappointed we cut him after one season. As was Rendell who said at the time that he'll end up back on an AFL list.

Did Carlton not know about Curnow's bender? Just a stuff up by us.

No reason to invent excuses.

Haven't you spent the last 15 years bagging players like Doughty, Reilly, Stevens, Van Berlo and Richie Douglas?

Now you are saying the club stuffed up by not keeping Ed Curnow?

Make it make sense.

Of course they did?

We kept players who never made it out of the SANFL in priority
And players who were worse became stalwarts in our AFL team

Sure, no biggie compared to all our other much worse decisions because Ed Curnow was only a handy player but the wrong call. One of many.

And he got brought up in this thread not because he was any good. Simply because someone wrongly posted that Ed Curnow was disappointed to be drafted to Adelaide, in some sort of misguided defence for over-looking Charlie Curnow in the draft

The clubs completely incompetent. We knocked back Macrae and Kingsley for the useless twit. Ogilvie should have been moved on years ago along with Riccuito. Ogilvie is like a public servant, has a job for life regardless of his performance.
So true..

My son in law works in the Public Service. He said its almost impossible to get the sack, even if you wanted to.

BTW some of the perks he gets (they get) are unbelievable. He gets 6 weeks annual leave and can take an extra 2 weeks on top of that at half pay; can salary sacrifice as much as they want (100% of your salary if you want to); the flexible hours are , well very very generous and of course the Super entitlements are way beyond those in the private sector.

Two of his work colleges in the same department as him are husband and wife. They have worked in the PS since school (both in their late 40's now). He salary sacrifices 100% to his Super and they live off of her wage.

Should have applied to work there when I left school in the early 80's. Probably be retired by now

But back to the topic at hand!!

IMHO if we are 3-8 at the halfway mark of the season, surely he is goneski?

Public service rorts are a disgrace.

They are, but I've NEVER heard of a 6 + 2 week annual leave.

My wife worked in the Public Service for 10 years, albeit in health and she never got that.
I work in a S.A. government agency.

You accumulate 12.5 hours per month of annual leave. That’s 150 hours per year. Eg 4 weeks.

After 15 years service you get retention leave as well. This is only about 5 days a year.

Then there’s long service.

So besides retention leave there’s no special treatment. Yes if you have an ongoing position you have a job for life until you resign or take a tsvp.

But there are still lot of casuals who are on 12 month contracts. Have to reapply after 12 months for the job again as another 12 months causal contract.
