does make a fair point

according to Tom Harley, Scarlett is the best defender his ever seen

if so why does he never play on the most damaging forward.... Ever

Franklin???

Only reason Scarlett may not play solely on a number one forward is because of his damaging offensive game in defence. In effect, not tying down Scarlett by simply negating one opponent.

The answer really is; only the most damaging forwards are worthy of Scarlett's full attention - forwards who cannot kick straight are not worthy. ;)

Isn't it great though when people here assume they know better than AFL coaches, players and media experts and decide that a player is overrated by the so called experts?

It's a wonder they haven't made you Essendon coach Guzz and PP, since you guys clearly know so much more than any of the others.
Bah.

No AFL club could afford me. :thumbsu:

I look forward to your explanation on how Franklin, Lloyd, Hall, Gehrig and Fevola (just off the top of my head) aren't their side's best forward.

Your post is the biggest load of garbage I've ever seen.

Nice deflection chump. Scarlett has never been towelled up to the tune of 9 goals in a GF, with his opponent winning a Norm Smith.

Only because he's never played against a player the calibre of Gary Ablett Sr. I hardly think that's a fair comparison. God himself couldn't have stopped Ablett that day.

Unless of course he's dragged to the other end of the ground, in which case he's done his job just be keeping that forward quite, while the rest of his opposition's forwards have a field day. Well, according to LLD anyway.

A crap player being commended by an even worse player. Harley has less credibility than shotta.

Yes and no. I think that Scarlett is a very good player, but he seems to get more kudos than would appear to be warranted based on his performances.

Seems you have even less. Can't even get your own opinion to stay constant from post to post.

Why did Hudghton get lauded as having a fantastic game in the PF against the Hawks? Hawthorn kicked 18 goals!

How bad is Nathan Brown? He let in 17 goals against Essendon!

When they're relevant. How about you?

Why did Hudghton get lauded as having a fantastic game in the PF against the Hawks? Hawthorn kicked 18 goals!

Your original reference to the Rd 9 game was to say that Scarlett had a shit game. Answer this question as the two scenarios are identical. Both Scarlett and Hudghton kept their direct opponents to a single goal, both were in a losing side. Why does Hudghton get effusive praise, but for Scarlett it's a shocker?

Perhaps it had something to do with him restricting Buddy to only 2 marks. Marking is probably Buddy's strongest attribute. It's also one of Rocca's strongest attributes, but when Scarlett played on Rocca, Rocca had the highest number of marks for the game. Had he been playing up forward, he'd have kicked 4 or 5 goals. It was only the fact Rocca spent most of the night on the half back line that made Scarlett look like he'd done a good job.

My inconsistency is a result of trying to contribute constructive criticism and participate in the spirit of Bay 13 (i.e. shit stir). :D

RO the ****ing FL. Please, bring Rocca back and have him take marks on the wing again.

Next thing you will be telling us that Scarlett is as good as Langford, Silvangi, Moore, Southby, Dench,.

FFS get a clue.
Most experts rate him as the 2nd best behind SOS.

But of course, you Bay 13 armchair experts obviously have more credibility than current and former players and coaches, and media commentators whose job it is to analyse footy.

Seriously though, still laughing at Langford 10 minutes later.

Can't wait 'till we play Essendon! Our washed up old hack of a FB in Scarlett vs your washed up old hack of a FF in Lloyd! Does my head in just thinking about how shit they both are.
