Well this is a fun s**tfight

sirlothie no one is going to give a flying fu** if you bump your post when Shaz retires. And that could be in ten years. What a strange thing to want to hang your hat on.

As for the Mayne versatility s**tfight - given he was recruited as a defensive forward, became a target in Fremantle’s forwardline, and has at various stages played half back, half forward and sing for us indicates that he is indeed versatile. The better question is whether he remains versatile or whether he is now only capable of playing wing and as a stopgap defender to an AFL standard. Tarkyn Lockyer was versatile but when the end came he was found wanting, playing only the half forward flank to a borderline AFL standard. Time changes everything.

I can obviously see limitations a lot better than most.

I think you’re being a bit precious/protective. Shaz was almost certainly in the selection mix and fit to play after two weeks off. Simply he didn’t have a match up in that Geelong side.

He should definitely have one vs GWS so tomorrow we get the truest indication possible as to where our coaching staff see him.

Safety first with brain injuries, one might think your being too dismissive with them.

Guess well have to wait and see.

Yeah potentially. I’ll frame my response differently - I think even in Scharenberg was fully fit he probably misses that final. He doesn’t have a match up and Howe/Roughy/Moore as a combination get selected first.

I'm not saying he's a bad player, he just doesn't have what it takes to get out of the backline. He would get showed up for pace, agility, tank. Plenty of good players never left the backline. He's a punch first defender, that's what he is and his injuries probably have stopped him becoming anything more.
I have to say he’s not a punch first defender at all, Unless it’s the best option.

He’s a stunningly good mark and his judgment in the air is impeccable. He will mark if he feels he can. And he does that on a high level.

He will mark if there is no danger out getting out marked.
He’s so good in judgment in the air. High class in that department.
Cut above the lower level.

He was slated for the midfield when we drafted him had a decent turn of pace and that amazing poise with the ability to read the ball, but too many injuries one on top of the other have slowed him enough to keep him out of the middle. Still not past midfield rotations for changeovers though. Class and poise would get him through.

I think we are all fans T but he is no longer the standout back flanker in the team. Don't get me wrong what he does is great but he is now replaceable.
Fair point mate.

I still think shaz is best 22 at our club, but it is not my decision.

If bucks doesn't rate him, he needs to go elsewhere.

If you say so but Scharenberg has no versatility.

I think you're going too early with this call. Just back from his 3rd ACL, he'll take time.

I don't think that's the case at all. I think it's more about survival for him this season, get a full preseason under his belt and see what he can deliver longer term.
