Yes there is, we are a very undersized defence. We need Darcy’s height.
Yeah thats what im thinking, say we come up against north, Waite, Brown and Wood command tall defenders. Langdon and Howe are possibilties too.

Not convinced Darcy is a player any Moore. seriously though.
Too soft.
Needs some real mongrel. It s no good just gritting your teeth and looking pissed off after the ball has gone.
he needs to smash a few packs and put a few backs on the injury list.
As I have said many times....if I was that tall there would be a reasonably sized grave yard just in front of the goal square full of dead full backs.

Like the comparison, Clement had a more laser like kick, flat and straight, both are what you would describe as neat, they are just really tidy players reliable in so many situations.

When he and Bucks were at their best, we had just about the two best long kicks in the game. Gee that was nice. Pew pew pew pew pew

Morwood is the comparison for me.

Darcy Moore will have to play forward with scharenburg playing so well at CHB. There is no longer a place for him down back.

I still think we lack height in defence. We lack an option to go on a tall when they're impacting in the air. An ideal set-up would have that height. To me Moore to CHB and Shaz into Langdons role is our best set-up.

Interesting comparison but not bad, not bad at all. Morwood could go forward as well, I think he kicked 6 in a game once.
Also Morwood generated a bit more run, he was really really quick for a bigger bloke.
Shaz seems a bit more tighter defensively than Shane Morwood was, by memory he played by the sword and could be found wanting on occasions.

I can't believe any supporter would be silly enough to propose we're a better team with a player sitting in the stands for a year. Shaz would have got his chances even if Goldsack was available.

Agreed & IMO they had Goldy pencilled in for a role up forward anyway.

It's great to see him using the ball so efficiently, and taking intercept marks. But we always knew he had those attributes.

The concern was always his pace and his application. At times last year he looked lazy and off-the pace. We had question marks about his endeavor and hunger for the contest.

The biggest upside to Shaz this year has been his tackling. He really tackles ferociously, and he looks to have gained a yard of pace. He is actually showing real hunger for the contest now, and rarely loses a 1 on 1.

The injuries he had were horrific really, and no wonder he struggled in his earlier days. It has taken him a long time to get confidence back in his body and fitness. He came from so far back. I'm surprised we ever questioned his attitude, because many would've given it up, but Shaz has taken it all in his stride and just quietly done everything asked of him.

I think he has another level to go as well. If we can find a big bodied defender to take the main match-up, Scharenberg is going to be lethal on the 3rd string forward and working off him offensively.

early days but he seems very much pendlebury and Dalsanto like. in that everyone seems to be going slow around him. I can hardly recall a game where he has been tackled, and he always seems to release the ball at the right time either by foot or handball. i recall several times against the Dogs where he just waited the perfect time for the dogs forwards ( defending ) to make their move and approach him to tackle to which he would release the handball. you see a lot of players just handball and it ends up putting the next player under more pressure. Shaz holds onto the footy until the tackling player has committed to a forward movement to tackle before he releases a running player. give shax another 20+ games. so basically leading into next year and he will be AA>

Not such an issue when we've got the footy, but his pace (or lack thereof) can get exposed when they've got the footy or the footy is in dispute. Offset more often than not by his reading of the play. It's better this year relative to last and hopefully there's still further scope for improvement.

agreed, but as i think you are eluding to also is that not everyone is gifted with extreme pace. he reads the play and plays the angles so well which gains him an extra yard or two. all in all is tracking very well and my own opinion is that he is now a lock in the 22.

Where does Scharenberg rank in terms of the best in his position.

Gotta hand it to Robbo.. what he said about Schaz tonight.. with Howe and Dunn back there it feels like Scharenberg has elevated himself as the general.

His timing.. closing down speed.. doesn't ever waste it.. all great.

Wait. Robbo said another positive thing about us? He has sure been sucking up this year. Maybe because Perty isn't giving him stories anymore.

It does feel like Scharenberg is the general. Even with Howe back there.. he does look like a different class. Just an amazing talent.

Slob went on to say that we've got an 8-10 yr player on our hands. Personally I think the positive to take out of the 2 knee recos.. are the 2 yrs his body has been free from competitive football. Fingers crossed we might get an extra coupla yrs out of him towards the latter stage of his career as a result.
