I feel like I am talking to a brick wall.

IF Warnock wants to leave and selects his destination as Carlton than Hawthorn has NO SAY. Warnock as a free agent has to sign any contract before a trade is official.

Melbourne cannot choose his destination, it is all on Warnock.

Aren't you curious why Hawthorn didn't seem to target Jolly in the last trade week. A quality ruckman would certainly help your side a lot more than an injury prone outside midfielder. Jolly wanted to go to Collingwood, informed Sydney of his choice and let them sort out the compensation

Your dead right, if Warnock wants to leave the club because of a lack of opportunity and better prospects elsewhere that is his decision. He is an individual and I believe he is out of contract at years end. Personally I believe that Carlton will be in pole position, as outlined below:

Add to that we can match whatever the Hawks offer to pay him (Excess cap space from Fevola, Stevens leaving) and it does put us in a strong position.

Compensating the former club when a player indicates a will to leave is not the only factor in recruiting a player. Look at Ball, or the other Warnock trade where Freo where dead set on getting a first rounder. If Carlton put up a second rounder, Melbourne should grab it as it is market value (normally it would be a third rounder, but due to the nature of the GC picks the draft changes). The actual position of this selection in the draft (36-8) is relevant, but so is the fact that Carlton is surrendering it's second overall selection in the draft, which in of itself is a significant concession.

If Warnock leaves of his own volition then Melbourne will have to accept that they will either get say a second rounder or nothing as he will delist himself and enter the draft, where either Hawthorn or Carlton are likely to grab him (GC might have a crack)

Ah, the good old 'you have to trade him or you'll get nothing' argument. Nice. Do you know if he is actually out of contract at season's end btw? No one seems to know for sure...

Yer, but we never showed any interest to Jolly's management. Because Hawthorn was already committed on getting Burgoyne and Gibson! Plus we didn't know that Robbie Campbell was gonna retire!

He probably will cause it's a bit to late for him to blossom now or we will get rid of him in a trade!

We're going to delist him, but for the low, low price of a good CHB you can have him!

Actually Melbourne can influence where he ends up, it's been done before and will again in the future. Regardless, Warnock is not like Chris Johnson, he wouldn't want to leave and the club to get nothing, he has more character than that.

At the end of the day Warnock is worth whatever a club is willing to offer. These factors are influenced by a clubs need, room in their salary cap, position in the draft, quality & depth of the draft and talent and age of the player. With all this in mind I firmly believe that he is worth more than a 2nd rounder to Carlton, in this draft. Last year (and the year before) it would have been different, he would have been worth a 2nd or 3rd rounder at most.

What do you expect from a Hawks supporter ??? ALL their players are worth a 1st rd pick, even those about to be delisted ............

WTF are your on about? That's a whole load of crap that your crapping on about. No one even said that! May I quote that I said we would trade Beau Dowler and a first round draft pick. Who does Carlton have to offer that's a forward?

I think perhaps the point being made is that Beau Dowler does not at this stage hold a great deal of trade value. He might be a forward and had great attributes as a junior but 5 years on its all about what he can do now and the form he is in today and what his body allows him to do.

The big question I see when i have seen Dowler play in the last few years is does he really want to be an AFL player. He just does not seem to have the intensity and desire to make the grade.

His form just have a look at this last week how he did.

Dowler will be delisted.

Warnock is what we need. I would try and bend us over and grab one of our experienced but slow midfielders. Reckon we are ripe for the picking.

Ellis+Dowler and we'll talk

Ellis+Dowler and we'll talk

Dowler is playing VFL reserves at 22 so um no thanks. Ellis is a light bodied vanilla mid and we have plenty of young midfield talent coming through so no again.

I hope Warnock decides to stay. If he does decide to leave in search of senior footy Hopefully there are a few bidders..Carlton?..Hawthorn? so we get a better result which would most probably be a draft pick.
