Re: Rooke to consult specialist in the US

Balme was saying on SEN before that Rooke is on target to come back into the side two or three weeks before the finals. Rooke has been quite upset to have been out for so long

He must have meant back in the VFL side 2-3 weeks before September, surely? Given this week is round 17, I can't possibly see Max playing AFL in round 20, because he'll need to prove his knee can handle multiple matches and recovery for the next week before he'll be selected. I'd say the QF would be his most likely target.

^ Heh, voice of reason:thumbsu:

I try to be.

FWIW I really, really, really, want Max back, it's just that I remember earlier in the year when he played that one practice match at vic park, looked a bit lame, then could only play a half the next week, and we still played him in the seniors the week after that. So I think for Maxy's sake as well as ours, he'll need at least 2-3 weeks, building up his gametime kinda like Hawk is doing now, but more so.

Go Max!

Re: Rooke to consult specialist in the US

Maxy on 774 as we wait...

- still a bit of tear and wear in the joint, but not the end of the world
- three weeks of programs to do
- needs to play 2 weeks in VFL, then try and get in the seniors for finals (no qualms about taking someone else's spot 'that's just footy, I guess')
- priority is to train and play this year, not worry about next year
- footy 'looks pretty easy' when watching from the sidelines

Heard him on KRock pre-game. Pain nearly gone. Hasn't started serious running. Wants to get through a few 2's games. Possibly unlikely to get himself fit enough for finals this year, and he agreed it'll be difficult.
Hasn't lost his sense of humour. Tried to explain that the US rehab specialist thinks Maxy's injury is related to the brain switching off the muscles around the knee, and he admitted to having lots of brain injuries.

Sure you don't mean Corey. I could be wrong, but I can only recall Max playing against Carlton, which was embarrassing for his standards.

No I mean Max. As I said, he played a half at Vic Park, then played a half the next week against Box Hill where he broke Burgoyne's jaw but still generally laboured around slowly, and then played (seniors) Easter Monday as the replacement for Corey.

Sorry, I misread you. The Monday game was the same Carlton game, and I forgot the 2's were still in prac game mode

Re: Rooke to consult specialist in the US

Apparently Ten News said Rooke could be back in 3 weeks.

Edit: Said the US experiment went well and would be back in 3 weeks, or definitely for finals.

He was interviewed on radio on saturday and said he hopes to be back playing VFL in 3 weeks.

Re: Rooke to consult specialist in the US

Bomber spoke about Max at the presser today and you can tell he definitely will put Maxy back in if he can get through some VFL :thumbsu:

Loved Maxy on our TV Channel....said the thing he would fear the most is losing someone he 'd...see the man's not just a manimal...he's a sensitive soul too.

Much better than Blake, who came up with 'Mark Blake fears nothing, fear fears Mark Blake':D

Re: Rooke to consult specialist in the US

That would be incredible and probably beyond our wildest expectations in all honesty. Question is, who is the poor bastard who gets bumped for him?

Bloody tough. My thoughts naturally went to Byrnes, but even he didn't play last week. Stokes been good since coming back, Trav catching fire. Not even sure who is "Rooke-lite" in that side that would naturally make way.
He is one unique beast though, Max. For some reason I like the side more with him in there.

Max vs Pods?? Could we possibly have both, specially if Tomahawk gets back in? Somehow, I just can't see Max getting right for this season with his near non-existent preparation. Almost bizarre if he could-some guys train and play all season to peak for finals, and Max can apparently play 2 seconds games and have an impact. Much as we love him, he is really doing a crash course, which is his style, we know.

Ottens did this last year, and arguably, he and Max are the only 2 that bring something unique to our team. Maybe.

Re: Rooke to consult specialist in the US

CMON MAX! If he gets fit enough and starts throwing himself sideways and sacrificing his body for the club again we wouldn;t be able to leave him out. It would be a good problem to have. lf you were running out for a GF you would definitely want Max in the trenches with you...

l could see Stokes making way for Max with Trav and Byrnes (pace, goals and 09GF) playing. With him our balance would be perfect with his unique hardness adding that something special.

Re: Rooke to consult specialist in the US

Rooke, 28, is likely to play in the VFL in a fortnight and be available for AFL selection in Round 20, just a fortnight before the Cats embark on their finals campaign.

Hopefully that is wrong. So pisspot Robbo is saying he'll play just 1 VFL game before being available for selection.

Re: Rooke to consult specialist in the US

Talking to the old man (Geelong supporter) before last year's GF, I said Rooke was a good chance to grab the first goal, even though he was initially named (Thursday night) to start on the bench, because you do not start a Grand Final with someone look Rooke (or Selwood) on the pine. If he is fit, and ready to go, he must be picked. Someone will miss out, but unfortunately, thats the nature of the game.

the same robbo who was going out for a ciggie at sound of the siren at 4 qtr in our game against the hawks who then wrote an article on the game?

Re: Rooke to consult specialist in the US

If Max Rooke is fit and shows a bit of form you have to find a place for him. Not sure how you do that, but Rooke is just too much of the right ingredient that makes a premiership team!!

Re: Rooke to consult specialist in the US

If fit and raring to go,burns out. Stokesy while not fleet footed as byrnse looks more dangerous & in better form. Then...i'm not a fan of Lonergan !!! he makes me nervous like Blake.

Has to be wrong. Surely he has to be setting himself to start playing VFL in round 19, play 2-3 games and then get in the AFL for round 22, as Otto and Kelly did last year. Anything sooner than that would be ridiculous and would require us to guess as whether he is fit enough to play or not.
