OH so now you're using the 20 year AFL rule as it benefits your standing.

This is becoming pathetic.

I'm outta here, you're in card territory.

Agreed, I might go start an argument with my 13 yr old brother over the remote, it would have to be more intellectual than this:thumbsdown:

"Collingwood's famous four premierships in a row between 1927 and 1930 became the catalyst for change to the system. The other clubs felt that the Magpies had an unfair advantage from finishing all four seasons on top of the ladder when the right of challenge saved them on a number of occasions."

Nice way to get a dynasty!! Cheat your way to it....

Sorry Joel, I was unaware that Collingwood were so appallingly robbed by the "Carlton’s Salary Cap Class of 1995", I should of realised that was just another of many certain Collingwood flags that were taken away from the evil Tall-Poppy-Cut-Monster..

Did I say that? I certainly don't remember typing it.

One of if not the only thing you never hear Collingwood supporters go way over the top about is their one flag since 1953. The usually just acknowledge its existence and that is it... because they know how lucky they were to finally pick one up in a dud year.

WTF are you on about? What relevance does that have to my post?

You do realise that if you finish top 4 you get a double chance?

What does this weekend have anything to do with the premiership tally?

Although i do agree with the point MontyMensch made about Collingwood fans getting carried away every year without taking failed opportunities into account.

It's a manufactured buildup. I'm not saying it isn't a big game, I'm just saying that it's not a great game. Sometimes it's really exciting but let's face it, for most of the last decade the sides have been on opposite ends of the ladder. I watched about 10 minutes of this year's game and Essendon were so bad I switched over to GO! and watched the daily movie. That's not a blockbuster.

And don't start on that honouring the ANZACs crap with me. The only ANZACs that even give close to a shit are the ones that barrack for either of the clubs. It's a media driven manufactured event designed to make money, not to honour the ANZACs. It's just easier to draw a crowd on a public holiday.

And what does that say really? People who say "I'd lose every game for the rest of the year as long as we beat (insert biggest rival here)" are chasing mediocrity rather than success. The Pies can win all the "big games" they want against cellar dwelling rivals but it won't matter one bit if they can't beat the best when it counts. That's the simple truth.

Complain all you want about blockbuster fatigue but if you think teams haven't lifted to beat us you're kidding yourself. We are the team other sides test themselves against (If I had $5 for everytime a coach said that before we played their side, I'd be very rich).

A big crowd doesn't make it an important game. Collingwood's problem is that they spend so much time feeding their "big club complex" that they have no humility. You can be as big and powerful as you want, but no one will respect you until you start winning flags in the modern era. No one except Eddie, Joffa and their band of nuffies care about flag tallies won in the pre-war era. If the Pies stopped complaining about blockbuster fatigue and stopped saying how proud they are to be so big and successful, they might realise that and they wouldn't be so shocked every September when their great white hopes disappoint them again.

And I'm not being arrogant, I'm just stating the facts.

Maxwell is a tosser - he'd struggle to get a game wit us and he's their captain. Collingwood is a side half full of rookies including captain maxwell

I think Bomber would be bemused with Heath Shaw's comments this morning:

"They have been a good team for the last few years, but it's just an opportunity for us to challenge ourselves and challenge our structures against another team and get another four points against another team."

Firstly, we've been a helluva lot better than 'a good team' since 2007.

Secondly, it's quite disrespectful to talk about it being 'an opportunity to get another four points' when talking about a team they haven't beaten since 2008.

Compare the contrast to Brad Ottens' comments yesterday:

"It's a huge test for us as a club. We haven't been playing our best footy over the last four or five weeks and they're probably up and going and on fire."

""They've taken all before them and we've played a few good quarters and a few bad quarters. We've been a little bit on and off so it's going to take our absolute best to beat them, that's for sure."

I have a feeling we'll come out breathing fire tomorrow night.

Words from opposition clubs won't stir us too much. We have been very professional over the last few years with our mantra being 'only control what we can control' so to speak.

Collingwood players can continue to convince themselves it just four points but if they don't beat us tomorrow night there will be doubt in their minds if we meet each other again in september.

I got more money on Leon Davis to have a nother stinker when it is crunch time.

Cats by 23 for mine.

You guys read into comments a little too much. Shaw was sprouting football cliches and you still find a problem with it.

Ottens was sprouting football cliches too, yet he still sounded like he had a lot of respect for his opponents this week

Even after the 2008 game (by the way did you know collingwood beat us in '08?) when we played them next in 2009 we were very respectful and didn't try to put outlandish statements on the airwaves.

I think we're definitely reading too much into these comments. By contrast to the way Collingwood have carried on in the past, they've actually been quite respectful this week. I think it's a good sign for Pies fans - usually the sides that talk themselves up and/or the opposition down are the rank outsiders who have nothing to lose and have to try something to be a chance. Port Adelaide pre-2007 GF, Collingwood pre-2009 PF, they were both against highly fancied opponents and were looking for some extra leverage. It was misguided but it wasn't for no reason.

There's a nice section in the Mission 2 when Bomber talked about the '09 Prelim. One sentence summed it up - "Our season wasn't ending that night, all the players had the belief that it wasn't going to end after all of the hard work"

Fantastic quote.
