Maxwells captaincy how long will he last?

Maxwell is just temporary until one of our younger boys example pendles is ready to take the reins. Making Maxwell captain of Collingwood shows our lack of leadership within the club. Maxwell will be a good captain due to courage and passion but lacks skill and polish of a buckley. Think other clubs will laugh at the appointment because he doesn't intstill fear into other clubs.
 
sorry about the over reaction.........I just don't think that he was the best candidate.....and I think that in years to come he will be struggling to stay in our best 22 let alone 18.....But as a few of you have said he is the captain of our great footy club and we all ( including doubters, like myself ) need to get behind him, and show our full support for the new Collingwood captain.....
I just HOPE TO GOD he can prove me wrong!
If he does I will eat my words proudly and admit that I was the first one to be against the decision...

BS - Might not be a Permnant Captain but He still make a Good Ones - Just have to hear people say how good Nick is with the Kids and How he helps them settle in and they become good mates.

Reckon Nick will be good(Not Great)Captain but it is until someone like Pendles or Cloke lifts to be captain

confident with the clubs decision..

Buckley called for him to be captain and also gave him the honour of wearing number 5 on his back. If bucks along with the majority of the board sees leadership in him then so do i.

im 100% behind this decision. Pendles is too young
Big fan of nick. As the pictures above show, you need heart to be willing to take on the biggest name in footy.

ideally though the best captain in my eyes would have been Heath Shaw.
he was the one for the job. Unfortunately he put himself in difficult circumstances. hopefully in a few years time he can creep his way into the leadership group.

Ridiculous decision. Of course Pendlebury is the future captain so the smart thing would have been to go Lockyer until he retires. Pendlebury then 25+ will come in. Now its all ****ed up because Maxwell is not good enough.
 
maxwell to captain for 3-4 years or when his role in the team starts to diminish...
till then all you that arent happy with the decision can barrack for someone else.. gees... nick has done nothing but what has been expected of him at collingwood...
good luck to him... he will be a premiership captain... that you can all bookmark!

MM doesnt throw around endorsments like that very often.. shows the calibre in which NM is thought of..... :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

i think mick can see a shiny big cup at the end of the 2009 tunnel...

yeah and it wont be cuase of NM is captain it will be becuase players like Pendles Daisy Rusling Cloke Shaw ect are in there 4th + years and ready to step up.

nick maxwell is no nathan buckley- nobody ever will be... why would he be compared to hodge? hodge is not a captain...

brilliant footballersdont always make great captains... but brilliant leaders -like nick maxwell- make brilliant captains...

Hodge knocked back the captaincy as he wasn't ready so it went to mitchell and stayed with him but if you look out on the ground Hodge speaks at most there huddles and plays as the captain should.

Also don't ask me why they compared an out and out star player in Hodge to Nick as it got be baffled as well.

The smart thing on your behalf would have been to do your sums.

Pendles = 20 + 5 = 25
Lockyer = 29 + 5 = 34

Current age of our wisely selected captain = 25

Go figure
 
I think it is a great decision!

Anyone with any knowledge about inside the club would know that Nick Maxwell has been groomed for the position for the past year. Has leadership written all over him. Reminds me alot of Tom Harley from Geelong!

He will captain the club until he retires which will be in about 6-8 years!

Firstly I am not taking away a single thing from Bucks when I say this......

I have read numerous posts which either make a comparison with Buckley and Maxwell or somehow try to diminish Maxwell's captaincy potential by pointing out that he is "not the best player in the side".

Ask yourself these questions.

Did we win a flag under possibly not only the best player in the competition, but the best Captain in the competition?

Why did Nathan Buckley, highly touted as the Coach in waiting of the Club, it's best player for the last decade and the former Captain hand pick Nick Maxwell to take his famous number 5 Jumper?

Do you think Bucks made the above decision lightly?

Do you think the Club, which would also include the core of the playing group, made the decision to appoint Maxwell lightly or flippantly?

I have to admit the appointment took me by surprise but this decision strikes me as one of the most important and decisive the club has made for a long time.

I am truly excited by Maxwell as Captain, our recent drafting and our established players.......

I feel a rich and fruitful era has begun today at Collingwood Football Club.
 
3-4 years probably.

I really wanted Pendles to get it just because of that. I don't want to wait that long to see him get it.
 
Maybe we are looking at a Tom Harley type situation here.

Nicky played really well against Adelaide in the finals last year and obviously Mick and the club see something a lot of others don't. We've always had great players as captain and have won nothing for it, having a great leader and someone who knows he must produce or is gone as captain may be the way to go.

Nick suffers from "Gavin Brown syndrome" in that he always plays on someone bigger and faster but he always gives his all. This may be a good move, let's see how it goes before we condemn him and the club.

I do believe I was referring to multiple young players maturing into good consistent footballers then we will have a high chance of taking the flag, we need a person capable of kicking 50+ goals and a fit Rusling would achieve this and also take pressure off of Trav.

Look I might be venting vehemently about this decision because i was dead against it, come game day Nick will have my full support but at the moment especially yesterday I'm not keen on it and think that he is getting very overated by some people on our boards.

Comment like he is our L.Hodge , he will be a better captain then Buckley , Shaw , Brown ect , he is like Harley , he is like Hamill.

Maxwell has done nothing to be put up with those players yet and untill he does I wont try make him out to be something he isn't.
