Interesting to note that Simmo said he had to have some hard conversations with players regarding selection in the lead up to round 1, which he hasn't 'been able' to do for the past 2 years due to player availability.

Wonder if we might actually see him swing the axe on an established player soon?
Where did he say that?

And what players could he be referring to? The only players i can think of with any legitimate complaint about not being picked is Culley and the club says he was injured. Maybe Waterman also thinks he has more of a claim than somebody like Chesser. But there couldn't have been very many seriously hard conversations had.

Perhaps those conversations were "I'm giving you a chance to perform, if you don't then you're out. Consider yourself under notice."?

I didn't hear him saying anything about Barass. Is that in an extended clip? And what did he criticise Barass for?

May not have been in the clip, it was in an article on Cummings’ comments.
Edit: here

Comments on Barrass were about the fact Larkey kicked six, apparently Barrass doesn’t pay enough attention to his man. I’d suggest it’s Scotty that’d perhaps doesn’t pay enough attention on this occasion.

He said it at about 5.50 in the ask Simmo vid

Players like West, SPS, Clark, Waterman and even Hewett would have been close to selection and you want them to be disappointed at missing out. Whether you believe they didn’t warrant selection is irrelevant because what you certainly don’t want is players thinking they’re not good enough

What’s important is that the players who do miss respond the right way and put in good performances in the twos to keep pressure on those in the 23

Said it in the 'Ask Simmo' interview with Schofield yesterday.

Look Bunga, last week you burned the onions, under-cooked the sausages and you didn't even notice when we ran out of gas. Let me tell you, Gov was not happy. Consider yourself under notice.

Then maybe it comes back to the coach, if Barrass is do desperately needed to stick to Larkey as he's the only one capable of stopping him then put him on Larkey for the whole match, tell him to stick, when Larkeys on Barrass is on, if Larkey comes off Barrass can come off. Considering he's chopped us up there times now I'd say the coach isn't paying attention.

The previous time he chopped us up his opponent was a very skinny and raw Callum Jamieson.

I respect Garry Lyons opinion here when he's referencing what the club stands for, he's witnessed it first hand his entire career.

Something I've almost never said about Gary Lyon, but he's not wrong

It is hard to judge a key backman purely based on how many goals the oppositions leading forward kicks. Some of those goals might be due to other players falling over or not following their man into the backline thus creating an outnumber and the backman has to come off his man to pressure the ball carrier as he is a more immediate threat, which then results in a handball or kick to his man. Plus, whether the midfielders flood back quickly enough when there is a turnover etc. You can only really criticise Barass if he is getting beaten in contests where he should be able to bring the ball down at least or if he is being careless in playing too far off his opponent trying to zone off.

I was more confident of beating Norf than I am of beating GWS.

I can see some huge defeats away against the top sides.
We really need NN back asap.

Nic Naitanui is a 32 year old, overweight ruckman with dodgy knees. As great a player as he is (and has been), if he's our savior we are totally ****ed.
