When North are shit, there is no talk that North should trade their first/second pick for multiple picks to get them out of the hole they created. They should/must use the picks on top talent (as rebuilding teams need top talent) and should then get priority picks - which incidentally pushed back our picks and our ability to draft top talent when we have been at our lowest point and need it most. Now when it is the Eagles, they should have traded pick 1 (despite the criticism when we traded our first round pick the year before for two picks). The hypocrisy is strong with these Vic campaigners.

There is no doubt West Coast's drafting and list management had been poor and stale for a long time (the last couple of years probably the exception). There is no doubt that the shit show that is our Beagles team (for whatever reasons) has crippled development. There is no doubt we contracted players and coaches on too long contracts and didn't turn over fringe players or pick obvious midfield talent (looking for higher "potential") when it was in front of us. There is no doubt we lost our edge over the last however many years both on and off field. That is all on us.

But to say we are the exception, whilst other teams that made poor decisions deserve priority picks but we don't, is absurd. It is a pretty simple proposition, move to a completely uncompromised draft (in entirety) and no priority picks for WC (or any other team), or hand out assistance when it is needed. The former isn't going to happen. The latter has happened multiple times in the last few years. Why should WC be the exception?

Those clubs would revolt, with Geelong one club who behind the scenes believes the AFL works too hard to ignore the fact this is a competition and not football socialism where everyone is as even as possible.
Hahahaha ****ing Geelong?

That's like someone inheriting $50M and then campaigning against the lazy do nothing dole bludgers.

They're the most advantaged club bar none and yet somehow they alway have their hand out for public funds.

Well it’s easy to forget him. He rarely shows up during games unless junktime jake gets an over the top goal…

Anyway the champion data guy was on with Healy and the korn this evening…. Had some interesting eagles stats that made the korn even stop and think around the 30 min mark

Yeah it's absolutely ridiculous. Real shades of "I worked hard for everything daddy gave me" there

Hard to argue receiving additional draft picks is unfair when you’ve got the suns bagging three top ten picks for **** all each year.

I do agree with the teams who have been in mid-table purgatory forever that assistance is bullshit but unfortunately the afl has ****ed everything up by destroying the equity of the draft and granting priority with little consideration to what is fair and equitable.

thinking a terrible team can rebuild when their second pick is pushed out to near pick 30 and then blaming them for not creating more currency by electing to sacrifice access to elite talent is equally stupid.

if anyone watched us I wouldn’t blame them for saying until your team wants to consider playing proper afl level defence and you can get 18 blokes to chase and tackle we’re not going to consider giving you draft assistance.

I would prefer to build a premiership team as fairly as possible and that would mean seeing what this team can do after finding a coach who has an element of a defensive game plan outside of players guarding grass and also seeing what we can do in free agency with salary cap space.

But yeah the draft is ****ed and it’s the afls own doing so we’ll take some of that priority before tassie come in and **** it some more thanks.

Let's also be honest, we've never built a premiership team without some extras. 92 and 94 had all sorts of strange rules as the draft was in infancy. In 06, Ben Cousins was Father-son and I'm pretty sure Judd came from a priority pick. 2018 had Shuey and Darling as priority picks.

As the media says, it's a competition and we need to pull every lever possible to get players in. I say we get all the priority picks we possibly can.

Name a premiership team this century that hasn’t had some form of assistance by the criteria you’ve mentioned

The entire league is built on a pile of concessions and compromises to alleviate real or perceived disadvantages whilst completely ignoring others that are genuine

It’s an entirely bonkers system because the league morphed into existence from an expanded state league rather than being specifically designed and built as a national competition

To be fair in the Judd draft, the top 3 picks were all priority picks. As such the bonus pick that we got was used for Ashley Sampi.

It’s not just with us but it’s a bugbear of mine that clubs are said to have received the first player taken as the priority pick when the actual advantage was the second player

Take away PPs in that draft and we still take Judd at 3. Someone else then gets Sampi
