Anybody getting together in a pub in Melbourne to watch the Eagles games on TV? Where?

BTW only five games in Melb and only five free to air. We gotta get together somewhere - I couldn't stand another season of going to the local and fighting to have put the WCE game on (and keep it on all game).

For you poor melbournites who cant afford fox / despise murdoch and wouldnt piss on the campaigner - but have a dish on your roof : buy a vast box frim a caravan shop - bout $200ish - say you are going caravanning around australia and get it set to perth tv

Voila - fta eagles games - once every three months you have to call and renew it

Mail Exchange sucks asides from proximity to Docklands.

I'd suggest The Rose in Fitzroy (I'm not in Melbourne, but used to be) - but it's become something of an unofficial headquarters for the purple virus.

Other pubs around there are also good though - Napier is one you lads might want to think about.

I'm keen to partake.

I generally go to the Great Northern in Carlton Nth because i used to live closeby, but it's turned itself into the Fremantle supporters club. Still a good place to watch footy because they have a few projectors.

The Rose is great. I now live pissing distance from the Peacock Inn and the Northcote Social Club, so i'd gladly meet people there for a pint. NSC rarely has the tv volume up though.

Asked this question before when I lived in Melb... couldn't find a pub that was a bastion for eagles fans but just went to new places each week.. below are some of my favourites.

The Rose - fitzroy - historical footy pub... packs out tho. If you can get in early and get a seat its a great experience. Recommended.
Crown - some great new sports bars in there now
Emerald Hotel - south melb (http://emeraldhotel.net/)
Quarry Hotel - brunswick (http://www.quarryhotel.com.au/)
Exchange Hotel - port melbourne (http://www.theexchangehotel.net.au/) awesome steaks
The Sporting Globe - moonee ponds (http://www.sportingglobe.com.au/)

So in short, could this be the founding of a Melbourne based West Coast Eagles supporters club?

There is a Melbourne office for the club, perhaps contact them to see if one already exists

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. I'm in Dandenong so I can go to the various local venues and watch it. But the problem is getting it with the sound up, getting the full game, getting it without the distraction of idiots watching other things, or simply being around supporters from the opposition.

I really don't want to get Fox and at $750 for the 12mth sports package it is cheaper going to the pub, getting a pint and a meal. And with only five games in Vic this year that doesn't solve the problem.

It is about watching it with some knowledgeable - and really biaised - fellow supporters. People who know all the goss and who are not troubled by being rational about the opposition (or our coaching staff, selectors, sponsors, ex-players etc). :)

Years ago the Redback pub in Flemington Road was the 'official' pub. I am really surprised there isn't a replacement. Thanks for the details of the Eagles in Melbourne. I will contact them. If there is any info forthcoming, I will post it here.

Cheers guys.

Go Eagles!!

As per your suggestion I sent an email to them but nothing back. Disappointing.

Hi Grahame, did you find a place? I am also looking for Eagles fans to watch games in Melbourne with. I was going to try the mail exchange this Sunday.

No I didn't have any success. As mentioned above I did email the Eagles Melbourne office but they didn't ever answer.
This weekend at least is on free to air.

FiveStrings can we potentially abuse the Bigfooty Twitter to ask Stocks about this?

Does the Quarry Hotel still have decent Pinball machines float through it still?

I went to the mail exchange a couple of weeks ago when I was in Melbourne and I was the only one interested in the Eagles game. The guy behind the bar even referred to it as the Gold Coast match. Ended up watching it by myself in the outdoor bar.

Well I am interested in this as well. Why don't we just pick a central pub, contact them in advance, and say that there will be a number of us so can they please put the eagles game on with appropriate sound? I would nominate the Geebung in Hawthorn but the hawks are playing at the same time.

+1 for the Peacock in Northcote, but happy to meet up in a city pub.
So close to my house I can throw basically rocks at it. Problem with the **** is that they often play rugby and soccer games at the same time so you often have to stand by the pool table or whatever and don't get the commentary you want to listen to.

But I would definitely be keen to go there to watch a game.
