Membership Tally 2012

90%+ of members sign up by 31st March so the seasons form has little impact on 30 June total. The OneClub push was pretty important in increasing the total from 29,092 to 32,581.

That's an interesting stat. It's actually a pretty obvious stat, yet some Port members I know watch NAB and then the first couple of rounds before deciding whether they want to spend their money.

40k would be a spectacular result although it's probably a stretch for this year. I'm waiting for the day Port Adelaide has more members than that other mob down the road. I truly believe it will happen and when it does I'm sure there'll be some heads exploding.

Well pre afl we had 40% of the SANFL support we lost some of those to the Crows, I still can't believe they didn't come back, but it's obvious they fill the SANFL members when we are flying high, I hold out hope they will come back to their roots eventually

In footy surveys in the 1980's that I read in the papers, I never saw us have more than 28% of SANFL footy fans.

We will struggle to get 40k AFL recognised members unless we flog to death the 3 game passes like Hawthorn and Collingwood have done.

We will also struggle to get 35k Power + 5k Magpie members, where the 5k Magpie members are separate to power members. In last years 36k members, 32k were AFL recognised, approx 2k were non ticketed and about 2k were Magpies members only.

My guess is that of the Magpies 5.3k members last year, about 3.3k were also Power members and included in the 32k I mentioned in the sentance above, and 2k were solely Magpie members.

The whole SANFL membership is starting to have a decent impact of our numbers compared to our historical membership numbers. The old Category 1 or Ultimate memberships that allow access to all 22 games are down a few thousand from their peak.

Could be REH I'm only going on memory, I didn't read much in the 80's :) I thought in our peak late 80's 90's 40% was thrown either figure we had market share

But there are things like self fulfilling profecies, that the people at the club believe they can break 40k good on em as they will try and achieve that goal, better than coasting and trying to achieve what was made last year.

Once the crows got in, I think our games regularly drew 40% of the weekly total for the 4 games.

Could have been, I know one thing, we would both love to see 40k legit members

Awesome. That game at Adelaide Oval shall be considered the turning point - unless there is a better turning point in the future - from now on.

Maybe it was the last 3 quarters against the Western Bulldogs. At quarter time being 10 goals down, being smashed the previous 2 weeks, we were looking at a 30 to 40 goal shellacking. But some of our guys stepped up and in particular The Future showed himself.

Given that by mid to late January most clubs have signed up between 50% and 60% of their yearly total and we have hit 20k, that suggests we will end up with somewhere between 33.3k and 40k members. What the AFL recognised total is who knows, but it should be about 90% of the total final figure.

That is true, but the Adelaide Oval game is memorable especially due to the oval and crowd aspects IMO. Definitely that was the turning point of the season though, but I'd consider Adelaide oval as more representitave of turning the club into profit. Though if we fail for the next two years and so forth I guess that will change :D

Not sure these are all 100% accurate as of this week, but after searching through other clubs forums, this is what i've come up with.

Adelaide - couldn't find a tally amongst the empty whine bottles
Brisbane - 12K as of January
Carlton - 26K as of 23/01/2012
Collingwood - I entered the forum but all I could find were a bunch of Collingwood supporters having themselves off to their own portraits, no tally to be seen.
Essendon - 34K as of 23/01/2012
Fremantle - No tally in sight
Geelong - No tally in sight
GCS - 9K
GWS - 4K
Hawthorn - 43K (probably the front runners unless Collingwood have more)
Melbourne - 22K
North Melbourne - 18K as of 23/01/2012
Port Adelaide - 20K as of 23/01/2012
Richmond - No tally in sight
Saints - 20K but I think this is last weeks tally
Swans - no tally in sight
WC - no tally in sight
WB - 19K as at 23/01/2012

I've never compared our memberships before but we stack up pretty well.. This may not be news to anyone else but it's sure put a smile on my face. For a club who fared as (un)well as we did last year, it clearly shows our supporters are true and faithful.

There is a thread on the main page about Memberships, which is mainly a circle jerk between the "Big Four" clubs numbers, but it is also updated pretty regularly.
