What is the next move on Mick?

The reason why blokes liek Pagan and Malthouse will never coach again after Carlton - is that carlton signed these blokes up after they shoudl have retired.

yes it is called stale mates in chess parlance.
 
Just as bad was Terry Wallet ("the list master") coming out and saying "Carlton can't hide behind this loss they have to come out and say something", so for the 3rd time this year MLo come's out and says MM is contracted and they will review at the half way mark of the year.

How many more times does he have to come out and repeat the same thing, the media as usual are driving the frenzy and waiting for blood and when it's spilled they will blame the club again.
 
I could be horribly wrong but I reckon the club might ride out the media hype about sacking MM.
At some stage I reckon there will be an amicable agreement brokered that sees MM continue for the year then walk.
MM said on radio he can't justify a new contract if the team isn't winning, so while he has no intention of walking he's still a realist.

Personally, I think an "untried" at AFL level like an Adrian Bassett would be the go next year. He's arguably the best qualified coach outside of Vic & we really do need a complete change up in the coaching ranks from top to bottom. I know on this forum Bassett isn't the most popular choice but that's probably because most readers are unaware of his impressive record with Norwood (SA) & he hasn't the same exposure in Victoria as others.

One thing I would say is we need to steer away from previously sacked coaches like Bluey & Woosha. Hawthorn, Port & now the Bullies have appointed coaches who at a glance weren't probably the first choice. That said, Neeld @ Melb & Watters @ St.Kilda prove the club needs to choose wisely.

MM has to go at years end.

Yeah I am not so sure on him to be honest, think most coaches would of found it hard to stuff things up last year in his situation when you have the toughness and leadership that the Hawks have.

Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Burgoyne, Roughead, Birchall and others all give plenty of direction out on the field and are basically coaching their respective areas anyway.

Might explain why we look so unorganised out on the field, we have no one capable of doing the same.

As I have said before, he is part of a very strong system and all he had to do was stick to the script..
I have no idea if he could do that as a senior coach. Maybe if he went out an coached a VFL side we could see.

How many more losses can we expect? I'd say he'll have to repeat it that many times.

Who else is out there?

Veteran assistant Leigh Tudor, now with North Melbourne, is highly rated, and could yet emerge as the next Ken Hinkley. Michael Voss, now with Port Adelaide, will have learnt from his time as coach of the Lions. Remember, the Blues heavily courted him before Brett Ratten was given the nod. Peter Sumich, now with the Dockers, has been an assistant coach for 15 years and has come close to a senior role. There has also been speculation that a current senior coach has been sounded out about his long-term intentions.

And don't forget the AFL and AFL Coaches Association earlier this year pinpointed nine current assistants to complete the new accreditation course. The level-four course is seen as the finishing school for the next wave of senior coaches. The nine men are Brendon Bolton (Hawthorn), Stuart Dew (Sydney), Matthew Nicks (Port Adelaide), John Barker (Carlton), Blake Caracella (Geelong), Robert Harvey (Collingwood), Adam Kingsley (St Kilda) and Simon Lloyd (Fremantle). Simon Goodwin (Melbourne) was also a part of the group, but is already replacing Roos after the 2017 campaign.

The Blues will ask – can any of the above-mentioned names emerge as the new Alastair Clarkson with the right support?


MM grooms John Barker as next senior coach, he done the level 4 accreditation course, been to a few successful clubs, and know our strength and weakness etc....:D:D:D

The continuous media noise about Malthouse from people like Wallace after every loss is nothing more than self serving tripe.

From an outsider's perspective, I wasn't too sure about Mark LoGiudice's comments in regards to players being tradable and so on, mainly because I think that could have a detrimental effect on morale- but he's doing nothing wrong in saying the coach is contracted and that they will review. And he's especially doing nothing wrong repeating that ad nauseam whenever Wallace or Stevens or Barrett or some other muckraker brings it up after every loss.

It's all white noise and as supporters, it's best to just ignore those sort of types and their comments.

Nah, look at all the Gold Coast cultural problems, Bluey McKenna turned a blind eye to all that (allegedly) .. He is damaged goods.

I seriously am not concerned at all about our situation. It is not as dire as some are stating.. too much catastrophising from too many directions.

It will be best if we keep playing young players i.e. those currently in the team and DVR, Johnson, Holman etc. Then end up making tough calls at year's end on a few with currency. If we do finish where we're all worried about finishing, then we'll get pick 2 and 20. Gibba to Port and Yarran to Freo for their first rounders which we on-trade for Aish and Dixon. Boom! 2, 20, Aish and Dixon. Talent and needs met for Mick to rebuild with.

Mick is quality, I think there's more behind this.

I don't buy into the club propaganda, they were traveling fine when Bluey was there. Now Eade is failing, the board (namely Blight) look like absolute fools and they have to somehow shift the blame elsewhere.
