I hope the boys reflect real hard now on the half of season that has passed. I know a few of the times they look dis-interested when coming up against teams they should comfortably cruise passed in theory, alas giving the opposition a glance. This needs to stop if we seriously want to consider top 2 by the end of the season cause the second half is going to be much harder and injuries isn't an excuse.

Today I saw way to many clangers and a day when the lions are playing excellent football, should of been the first thing to perhaps look at. All day I saw players hoping the play of the ball will just happen, when it obviously wasn't (Seen by M.Rosa's shot on goal).

Personally if there is any upside to today's game, it should be the realization that effort level needs to go up, and perhaps play to your abilities instead of over and above (See T.Swift). Worsfold should be launching a rocket up there arse at this moment, and the next 11 days should be spent asking themselves how badly they want this premiership, because if they want to be contenders then they shouldn't be dropping games to a team standing 14th on the ladder regardless if they're a young team or not.

Credit to Brisbane they played an inspired game.

Bit much, guys.

You can lose games and still be a contender, you know?

I remember when we won in 2006, we got belted by Freo two weeks before the finals. It was a shocker. But we won when it mattered. So let's not over-egg it after a narrow loss in June.

perhaps contender isn't the right word, but to give them a good launching pad into the finals series to have a real shot at the big one.

Hate complaining about umpires because we usually do ok from them. Today we did have more free kicks, a few that did result in goals but they were ALL there!
The issue I have is the ones that don't get paid, so many times we tackled, Brisbane dropped the ball, play on? Holding the ball was hardly paid all day and we got the raw end of it. Also why not review that darling goal in the last, it was not touched and we would have won if it had of been referred to the video. Why have the technology if it is not going to be used?

Just relax, champ.

Even good sides lose games. No need to burn the barn.

Just an even season.
Geelong have dropped games to Freo & Nth,
Carlton have gone off the boil
Essendon thrashed us by 10 goals and dropped a game to melbourne who have been more woeful and disinterested than Brisbane. I'd rather be in our rooms than that of the bombers at the moment. Pretty sure our outs are as bad as any team.
The 6 & 0 swans lost 4 of 5 or something.

Honestly mate have another look at the game and this time take your blue and yellow glasses off. You can't honestly believe you got dudded in that match. Don't make me list the ones that could have/should have gone the Lions way and didn't....

The only thing that cost you the game was being 5% off your best, the Lions had a good day by their standard and that's all it takes as you should know.

really would rather not see another post whinging about us losing because of the umps - we had an awesome run from the umps - we may have got dudded on a few

we lost because we weren't as good on the day - suck that ****er up like 99% of the eagles supporters are - let other teams whinge about the umpires - lets be good enough that there are no chances for excuses. /end

At least now we are back to quiet business again, the focus will switch to Collingwood and the Hawks.

We rebuild and come out stronger. Just need to get a full squad up and running in the last few weeks.

Exactly, you're gonna get rolled from time to time.

All teams can play good football. Down at the lower end of the ladder teams can't consistently play good football.

The Bears rolled Hawthorn at Carrara in 89 and Hawthorn still went on to win the premiership.

As nice as it would've been to go into the bye 9-1, 8-2 is still pretty bloody awesome and leaves us in a great position to get a top 2 spot. The obsession with early season flag favouritism needs to stop (mainly fuelled by the media). Hawthorn, Carlton, Us and now Collingwood have all had it at some stage this season.

We are still a fair way away from getting Kennedy, Nicoski and Embley back so it gives us a lot of time to see where our fringe players are at, such as Hams, Brennan, Butler, McGinnity, Swift, Stevens and Sheppard.

25% off and that is unacceptable.

played all day as individuals and tried to win with a couple of 5 minute bursts

Nitpicking but 8-2...
I think we were in a great position for top 2 before, now it's going to be tricky
Will be happy to let other sides take on the title as flag favourites - it's cursed anyway ;)

Mate, as I said I don't want to complain because we have had a good run so far, just a few decisions, especially holding the ball that don't get paid, to either side. The one with josh hill on the boundary, chased, layed the tackle, incorrect disposal, play on. Another was sauce Merritt grabs the ball takes on the defender, basically drops the ball to his team mate who runs into the open goal. That sort of shit changes games. Not just our game either, been happening all year, just seems like there is no reward for a good tackle, only a seagull that jumps on top of the pack and traps the ball in then gets the kick.

Yeah, everyone slips up now and then. Better it happens now than in the 8-pters against Carlton and Collingwood. No excuses for not coming out of the bye breathing fire!

I know we won the free kick count but it still felt like we were getting robbed of some frees. The media attention to our free kicks is certainly playing on the umpires minds. There are some absolute gimmes that arent getting paid. memo to umpires FREE KICKS DONT HAVE TO ADD UP!

I kind of feel that our players looked tired and thought it would be an easy win and they were hanging out for the bye. At the same time brisbane were desperate, playing inspiring football so they could get another win before the bye to take some momentum in. Whilst only amateur football i have been in both situations. Just goes to show that football is definitely a mind game of some sort.

If we have a opinion on a player we are allowed to say it.

Koby Stevens has been starved of Oppotunities and deserves a go infront of swift.
Of course, but Swift has been done to death :thumbsu:
At this point we need to consolidate our position, now isn't the time to be using untested unproven players if we don't need to imho. Least we know Swift is acceptable at AFL level, Stevens hasn't shown much at all yet.

The problem is he isn't acceptable at afl level, gets pushed aside way too easily and his disposal is still not up to scratch. When shuey comes in he will go straight out. He seems to be like many fringe AFL players, great in the WAFL but continually fails at AFL level, bit like schammer for the dockers a few seasons back, killed it in the WAFL and could never find the same form in thE AFL.

Acceptable is different to good. Unless he improves the things you speak of he won't be a regular fixture.
My comment was more saying he holds the fort really at AFL level. We aren't in a rebuilding phase any more so those players are important when injury/suspension strikes :thumbsu:

Yeah thats true, just not sure why he is the first called in when someone goes down or gets suspended, seems like there are a few others that play his role better at the moment, Stevens has to be the obvious choice, or put A selwood through the middle at stages and bring in smith etc to fill his spot.
